Making the game harder to complete through methods that cannot be overcome by still, aka increasing tedium.
The main example is by increasing enemy health/resistance values by a significant amount, increasing the amount of time it takes to kill one enemy.
>>
>>724874483
Difficulty inflated by time requirements. Stat based meta progression, extremely low drop rates on items, easy fights extended by hp sponges.
>>
Numerical increases. Lacks mechanical depth.

Bloodborne, Nightmare Frontier, all those little stones or piles of stones on the ground, both the ones you can kick and the ones that completely block you, that's it.

Funny, I see two different definitions thrown around defining AD
>>724874559
>>724874641
>>724874685
>>724874784
As 1, just quantitative number tweaking, and
>>724874859
>>724874843 (uses both)
>>724875171
As the 2nd.
These two COULD be linked under an umbrella but they are never treated as the seperate categories they are. Which is it?

Artificial difficulty is when you're trying to play a game but your little bratty brother keeps trying to annoy you or something like that. Anything that isn't part of the game rules but is trying to make you "lose" can be considered artificial difficulty.
This includes things within the games as well. Things like "the lights are going out now, try playing in the dark lol" are a good example. New Mario Bros Wii is full of gimmicks like this during gameplay.
>>
>>724874483
difficulty not relying on skill
>>
>>724874483
Tedium over complexity or mechanics.
>>
>>724874483
Mad because bad.
>>
>>724887174
IF YOU NEED TO LOOK AT A SHITTY GUIDE TO UNDERSTAND HOW SOMETHING WORKS (unless it's the first time the game approaches it) WHICH IS THEN TRIVIALIZED BY USING ONE BUTTON, it's AD

IF YOU NEED TO SPEND HALF AN HOUR ON AN ENEMY, ONLY FOR IT TO BE FOLLOWED BY 8 OTHER FUCKERS JUST LIKE IT BEFORE YOU GET TO AN OBJECTIVE YOU WANT TO BE AT, its AD

IF YOU FAIL ONCE AND MUST DO ALL OF THE ABOVE ALL OVER AGAIN SIMPLY BECAUSE YOU ARE A HUMAN AND WILL FUCK UP, its AD
>>
>>724874483
how did artificial difficulty get picked up when everyone made fun of the guy who made it cause he couldn't bounce on mushrooms in hollow knight?
