How do I convince anyone of my friends to slog through ARR by themselves just to then play HW by themselves ect ect when they can just go play marvel rivals.

You can't.

I don't know this game will get new players. Even if they somehow release an expansion on par or better to SB, You would have to play through 200 hours minimum to get there.

this is one of the most poorly designed games I’ve ever seen. all old content is dead and deprecated, relic weapons are for glamour only, and the duty roulettes just group you with toxic and/or afk people that are addicted to the game. there is nothing of value to be had spending your time in this game

i've tried getting into this garbage at least 3 times before, last time i played it was maybe 2 years ago and i just can't stomach it for more than 20 hours. questing is so fucking boring and the combat is too slow. and every time i tried it global chat seems more and more tr**nified

Why would you try and convince your friends to play a dying MMO?
If you actually wanna play an MMO with friends just wait for a new one release and enjoy the FOMO honey-moon period that lasts 2 months.
That's how MMOs are played these days among normal people

You could never play it any other way but by yourself. I tried to party up with a friend when I first started but the whole game's just endlessly playing tag teleporting around the world and "YOU CAN'T ENTER THIS INSTANCE IN A PARTY." You can't see where your friends are going, you can't share quest progress, you're just reading this movie-book alone
>>
>>724883895
It could do with one honestly. Would make the game feel less lonely.
Anon is probably talking about the Novice Network, which is awful.
>>
They unironically need to bundle a story skip and level skip for the next expansion. Its unreasonable to tell someone to play through all of the MSQ just to play with their friends.

it is getting to be an issue. DT appears to be written in a way that previous expacs don't matter but then Vrtra showing up makes little to no sense and the only scion who gets anything resembling an introduction is Estinien. and then 7.2 and .3 make even less sense.

Feels like they didn't commit to the act fully. and this is also supported by the fact they're still making old dungeons trustable (though DD and AV aren't going to change that much boss wise, we may lose the DD gigapull).

Did anyone else notice they didn't mention blue mage for 7.45?

It is increasingly funny to me that Square Enix, the company that nearly bankrupt itself trying to make a hollywood movie for the FF franchise because Sakaguchi was such a westaboo, and had relatively good marketing success with its broad multi media marketing approach for FF15, has not thought of the obvious solution of having some mid-budget anime adaptation for FF14, with accompanying story skips for the MMO. You draw in more of the anime crowd that normally doesn't fuck with FF because it's a video game, and you fix your "new player has to play through 300 hours of story before they're caught up" issue.
>>
>>724887138
Now you're moving the goalposts. You (or another anon) said you had to rush the MSQ to play with your friends. But you don't. I never said it would a complete experience, but there's nothing stopping you from joining your friends all the group content you unlock along the way.

Make an alt and play with them.

The thing is though, the game isn't designed for people to actually want to play through the free trial. Every single person I've convinced to try it, without fail, has bought the game and their sub before finishing ARR. The trial is designed to make your experience feel incomplete and inadequate even though you really don't miss out on much of anything with where you are in the game. SE proceeds to trap you with sunk fallacy, and buying a story skip for the game becomes a no brainer for new players just so they can save time. After that they learn how to do endgame content and either fall in love with it or more commonly fail to get into it and move on. No refunds.

If your friends were never into MMOs to begin with, don't bother. They won't get into xiv especially in its current sorry state.

>>724887540
It is true. I am a millenial and have personally witnessed my peers use brands as a replacement for a personality. Being in the minority of millenials that does not give a shit about brands, products, or organizations that I am not personally part of has been brutal. Imagine trying to explain to someone that their sports team not winning doesn't actually matter in regards to their life and getting into a heated argument over it. I witnessed a friend literally cry and have a meltdown when Sony showed the Wonder Book at E3 that one year because his entire personality was "Sony fan". I have seen shit you would not believe with my generational peers. Finding a non-retarded millennial for me is like finding a unicorn.

DT made me stop subbing. I only come back when there is a free login campaign. The story is still absolute shit after 7.0. 7.4 is around the corner and then a year of nothing. Game needs job flavor again and to remove the gear treadmill. Ban any mod sharing third party apps, force people to have to download their friends mods. Make cross-DC PF a thing. This game was only palatable because the MSQ was decent and made you care about the setting. With DT it became utter shit, yes there is more gameplay content with DT but it's all dead discord only content now.

It's fundamentally not something a JRPG would do, but I thought back to BG3 and how much you can solve various quests in different ways: Talk through it, attack, ambush, sneak by, have a quest completed earlier that'd help with it, ect. And that would be a gold standard to me for a story heavy RPG. There's the bandits who stole Wuk's milkmommy's bracelet in Arizona, remember that? You have to make poo-poo-pee-pee bombs to scare them off (Thankfully they are feather Indians rather than dot Indians, else it would just empower them). A more novel way to do something like that is:

1) You can try and sneak in if you've leveled up ninja, but if caught they are really fucking tough, elite mob tier. Think of it like the bit in bozja where you had to sneak past guys who I think were sound sensitive. They had the stupid stealth portions so have that - as an OPTION, not mandaotry.
2) You can just muscle up and rush in and fight em, but that might have consequences down the line.
3) You can masquerade as a traveling culinarian if you have it leveled high enough, get some question and answers you have to pass to convince them to let them try your food (which you've laced with sedatives). If you fail the QnA then they tell you to fuck off and this avenue is closed off.

You get the idea. If you play XIV you will get the exact same story experience every time with no deviation. SWOTR as much as I can remember for what, 15 years ago, had it where you could go down different routes.

They'll never ever do this.

Although even that's hard to do now with how boring jobs are, at least you felt cool and like you had a fully fleshed out situational kit in ARR/HW
>>
>>724878945
>MSQ from the start is "go to point A to B"
>talk to NPCs, a lot of it unvoiced
>ARR story is kinda boring and post-ARR also exists
>you have only 3-4 buttons in a lot of early dungeons
the new player experience in XIV is so ass is runs primarily on gaslighting new players that it'll be good very soon

I make new zones like pre-nerf eureka which is also where people do relics, design it in such a way that hunt-trannies can't do their shit and actually need to play the game too instead of just chaining shit
you also need to physically travel to the dungeons btw and queue up in front of them
>>
We can easily do the math for that. Apparantly with conversion is comes out to .10/hr in USD, so basically 10hrs=$1.

So let's say on average you play for 4/hr day, 30 days, 120hrs=12hr, so potential to be "cheaper" but also potential to be way more expensive. 720hrs in amonth about and let's say an average playtime could range from 150-250hrs depending on the timeframe the game is currently in, like say raiding and maybe we shoudl take being AFK into account whilke it would'nt be done anymore but there are plenty who would just stay logged on waiting for others which would be harder to do when time is being charged by the hour.

So basically the range for 150-250 is 15/25/month, and of course that goes up the longer you stay online so overall I would argue why there is possibility that it could be cheaper I think at the end of the day it does just balance out to being the same amount plus the mental not of being charged by the hour would make planning things even more tedious as you would have to be mindful of time people have and honestly that overall headache imo feels like it wouldn't be worth the time to implement for the average gamer.

Is it still hard for everyone to recruit members even after PLL ?

I’m trying to find 2 tanks for semi hardcore hours (every evening + all day weekend) to attempt a week 1 clear, and been searching since September.

I’ve had like 2 applications until PLL and now I’m getting more application but the quality … bro you never finished a savage tier why do you expect a week 1 group to recruit you.
>>
PLD and SGE are the most common. Our static cleared with PLD/SGE/VPR/BLM, but my friends static have cleared with WAR, SCH, MCH, SMN etc. MNK and DNC from what I know are only the 2 unideal jobs in Q40 because their hard hitting cleave is proximity and dancing around its gimmick to hit the correct boss is more inconvenient than not. I've also seen WHM clear too. But in general, bring a PRange for extra mits if you static is strugging with mit check.

Q15 is literally the same fight as Q40, but with raidwides, bleeds tuned down, the cross shaped aoe after chains and the middle fireman add missing. Expect your tank to burn around 600-800 regen pots and everyone else 200-300 regen pots from prog to clear.

Savage weekly lockout removed in 2 weeks, let's goooooo! Wait... where did everyone go? The OC announcements were very whelming... Still waiting for something substantial made to FT so it ain't a slog anymore. The difficulty on a personal level isn't what irks me. Such a high probability of just wiping and getting booted out without using all the lives we have is just pure annoyance. It pains me to say so, but I think a nerf is in order. The "new" tag on criterion layout is worrying me, if they removed adds/trash, I will be sad, they were actually good. Nothing new announced on Criterion Savage (and I'm happy about it).

It’s funny because around the time of DT there were like 3 other fantasy South Americas that were cooler. Genshin did it better (pic fucking related they even had trials), PoE 2 did it better, there was some other one I forgot.

Well, I don't speak Japanese, it's like it's something that should've been clearly laid out on the slides (and not implicitly made with their long descriptions, I legit didn't know if they were deleted or not).

Anyway, a bummer, 3/5 of the fun of criterion has been lost.

Friend of mine kept malding that people were allowed to play DRK in bikinis or animal suits but he wasn't allowed to use DRK with the tomestone katana, Delta's Striking chest piece, and Maiming head piece to make a big armored samurai glam. May be too late but at least you can do that now without mods.

We need more glamour plates though
>>
>>724890726
I think this will be an interesting litmus test. People already making low-IQ clownsuits without the restriction will only serve to make more retarded outfits with it out. People who want to embrace class fantasy to a more advanced degree can really go further than ever before. I see this as a good thing, because the retarded weren't going to be not-retarded with restrictions, but the enlightened have less barriers and restrictions.
>>

>They really didn't try with Tural at all, did they?
They started phoning it in the second Endwalker dropped, anon
>>
The reaction to the glamour restrictions being lifted is very telling and reinforces my longstanding belief that they need to understand how big fashion is to the playerbase at large.

I am not exaggerating at all when I say they need to make a glamour collection system similar to what wow has their top priority. This would be a game changer and also revitalize running old content to collect everything. A huge boon for casual and solo players too.

Maybe this in the works already for all I know but man this type of massive system change should be all hands on deck especially over something like another frontline map. And I’m saying this as someone that just thinks glam is kind of neat. For a massive amount of players it’s the entire game.

>b-but
Shut up. Tons of players at max level dont know what their buttons do after 300 hours, it makes no difference.
>>
One of the necessary conditions for that system is making it so that acquiring a piece of gear unlocks its model/appearance rather than being tied to that specific piece, and making gear glammable by all classes allows them to unify references to multiple small variations/reuses of the same model under the hood. They made multiple mentions that this was just one component of the glamour rework they have been working on and wanted to get this out before 8.0.
>>
>>724890283
Tural was such a fucking failure. You can hardly blame the 7.X writers for setting almost all of the action in S9, there’s nothing for the WOL to do in Tural. There’s no crisis to solve, no problems to fix, no interesting hanging plot threads from the 7.0 MSQ to address. All there is to do is sit around and talk about tacos, peace, and happiness.
>>
>>724891605
I can blame the writers because the writers made it that way to begin with.
>>
I think the apparent news that they're working on making the open world better is promising for the direction the game is heading in. That's something I thought they were never going to touch, because the playerbase doesn't really challenge them on that at all. I hope they are truly trying to figure out how to make the game better after the years of rinse and repeat since Shadowbringers especially. We have to see how it goes, but hopefully next expansion will show a lot of huge improvements to the game that they might have been working on.

I'm glad they're trying a new difficulty in-between Variant and Criterion, that's something a lot of us wanted back when it released. Their track record is horrible for finding a good difficulty, with Quantum being the latest failure, so I hope this will at least be a step in the right direction. It's better if it's too easy than if it's too hard in my opinion, we really need some fun and repeatable battle content for non-raiders and I hope they can figure it out. It's too bad base Variant is seemingly unchanged though, it has potential but I guess they wanted to try the Advanced difficulty instead of making changes to that.
>>
>>724890283
You can't have Tural without Wuk and since the playerbase drclared that character as reason for world hunger, they have to stay in fucking S9.

I don’t really think so. The resident schizophrenic goes overboard but there was the DEI consultation poison pill that happened with DT. Most certainly in response to FFXVI getting raped by journos for muh browns or whatever.

If you remember the initial announcement, they included some blurb about consulting to not be offensive or whatever. You can also tell it happened because DT, for as shitty as it is, was never buried by the journo mob for being le problematic colonial propaganda or whatever. It’s like a protection racket
>>
If the whole Gold Saucer update they announced at the fan fests is just this Air Force One map, then I'm really disappointed. I thought it would be a bigger update, maybe on a Doman Mahjong level. I also just don't like Air Force One since it's solo, but maybe there's another update in 7.5, who knows.

Seeing people go crazy for the glamour restriction lifting is expected, the devs definitely know this too and probably have more things to fall back on during hard times like that. Imagine how people would react if we got a proper glamour log or instanced housing. On the other hand, it does show another example of them finally being willing to budge on things during this expansion, because Yoshi-P said earlier in Dawntrail he didn't want to see Black Mages in armor. I hope they're really trying to turn things around, we need to see the formula broken next expansion in some way and a healthier direction for the game, and especially job design that's actually fun and engaging.

That's true, but why does it have to be an echo of real world Brazil to begin with? They could have just made pure fantasy. And even so, there are ways to do conflict without making precious browns look bad. There's so much they could have done, it was basically a whole two continents that were blank slates.
>>
Iin FFXVI you see shiny spots of light on the ground in the world where you can go and find stuff like.. 3 gil! You can also find crafting material you have dozens of and only needed to make one. I honestly felt like the game was trolling me with the FFXVI exploration rewards, especially the 3 gil piles. IWhy even put those those in the game? What is 3 gil going to do? They literally spent time making dozens of shiny spots on the world map for useless rewards and for a while I kept going to them thinking they would get better and I would finally find something good but that never happened. It almost felt cruel, like they're just designing stuff in FFXVI to actively waste the player's time and they know it, and that's not even mentioning most of the sidequests. The main game itself was fun enough, the story had a lot of potential but just turned out okay. It was mostly just the pointless filler that brought FFXVI down a lot for me.
>>
When I found out to get the ultimate weapon to "help you in your next playthrough" you had to basically be at the final boss again I just said, nope and stopped playing. What is the point of giving me the recipe and saying here you can craft this, but only after you pretty much beat the game again. Why, who designed this? 16 was a let down for me and I would have been upset if I waited for it to come to PC.

I had hopes when they first mentioned Advanced Variant Dungeons, but OF COURSE it's just boss battles. Because this game doesn't have enough pve content that is only about the boss battles.

Why even bother with the concept of Variant Dungeons if 3 of its (now) 4 modes of difficulty remove the main point of the "variant" system?

Just delete the concept of Variant/Criterion already and just call it Oops, It's More Raids instead. That's all their combat team knows. Trials and raids. Trials and raids.
>>
>>724892654
No, the spammer just takes OF posts and pastes them here.

I can promise you this is a result of them realizing the only creative talent they have on the team. Its just bad because the mechs are entirely movement based and if you've done one fight you've seen them all. When you add in the fact that the jobs are horrible to play, it looses alot of its appeal. They should just release more Savage Raids than just turning everything ekse into it
>>
If it was still ARR I think I would care about glam restrictions being lifted causing jobs/roles to lose their visual identity but that boat sailed so long ago that it just seems like the natural choice given the way the game has been going for a while. A whm wearing full plate, a drk wearing a robe, or someone wearing nothing but a thong and a camisole into a dungeon are already possible now so it's not like we're about to cross a line that wasn't crossed years ago. I'm looking forward to finally being able to use crafter/gatherer gear finally too.

I'd be extremely skeptical it's "out of the blue". Given the weird ass database spaghetti bullshit this game seems to operate under where EVERYTHING is tied to EVERYTHING all over the place... I wouldn't be surprised to learn that doing this basically meant they had to completely uncouple every single piece of gear and redefine how it exists within the item categorizations. And it probably had to be done fucking manually piece-by-piece. The whole idea of how seemingly random abilities share timers between two different jobs. They've very slowly been undoing those weird spaghetti attachments over the years. When GNB first released, its dash was tied to the timer on WAR's Vengeance if I remember correctly (or something similar, I don't fully remember because it isn't like that anymore), so if you used Vengeance then swapped job to GNB, your dash would have a 120s cooldown on it because it was arbitrarily linked to the dash in their database in the background as "the same ability ID but with different a different job ID attached to it".

I was predicting glamour restriction for 8.0 because is a good reason to return to the game with an expansion and that feature.
But now they have to add something really interesting to the expansion to sell it.
>>
The criteron changes look pretty questionable (I enjoyed both the trash sections and the vibe created by the limited timer and the raise restriction, but especially the trash sections which are kind of unique for post-faust XIV and were honestly executed really well), but as always I'll wait and see how the content actually turns out before judging it. If the bosses are on q40 level or even above it (?), it'll probably be great content as they generally seem to place less restrictions on the devs for 4man content, which has made some very interesting or fun prog mechanics so far.

Other than that everything looks pretty positive, especially the delayed savage release as it means I can stay HC for the tier. I just hope they manage to still tune week 1 check to feel like a proper week 1 check. (I hold the somewhat unpopular opinion among these parts that post-TOP dps checks could have been more challenging)

I always thought post-EW could’ve cooked with that Void/Thirteenth MSQ story with Zero if they just added a new zone for one of those story patches (in the void) and had MSQ both take place in that new zone, and Eureka/Bozja type content happen in that zone too. Just as an experiment. But they really could’ve fleshed out that plotline with the Four Fiends having different factions in this void zone to do Bozja type fate content on, and each story patch have you finish off each Fiend after CE type encounters with them prior etc.

I mostly just find it weird that they’ll add four new zones for cosmic exploration, but imagine how much more novel it could be if we got a new zone in a post-patch MSQ instead and they just integrated exploratory content there, as well as keeping post-patch fresh with a new area. I mean their zones are all under-utilised as is so I get they want post-patch to make use of them, but they could have our characters going somewhere new in these post-patch stories instead

I don’t know. It should have been FFX spira in my opinion. A Sin and Tidus equivalent lend themselves naturally to FFXIV’s setting. Especially the latter.

A ffxiv tidus would be like a benevolent primal that isn’t even aware it’s a primal. The drama kind of writes itself while easily diverging from ffx and doing its own thing. What if that was Wuk’s arc instead of…..uh….papa’s peas….

My OC idea for exploratory content is the alternate, black rose timeline Eorzea.

It’s a way to being back the original zones, but with a twist. A way to have fun with nostalgia and fan service shit.

Paradox Weapons are the relic weapons, (You) work with Gerolt’s and Rowena’s great great great great grand daughter or whatever (and also have gerolt work on it hence the paradox).

Like OC, it has a sort of phantom jobs equivalent that are based on the OG jobs that were available during the time split that have splintered off from ours as the job stones in their time line have recorded new abilities.

Thematically it’s like pottery. It rhymes. (You) really saved yourself because your exploits inspired the doomed timeline. The doomed timeline really saved itself because its exploits saved you, who then returned the favor.

Square don’t hire me but take my idea

So I usually don't like making negative kinds of posts, but I just want to know if anyone feels the same.

I came back to the game to try out 7.3, and of course I wanted to try Unreal. I watched a guide and figured, "Okay, this can't be as difficult as Suzaku." And for the most part, it wasn't. Of course we wiped a lot, but then we started to get the mechanics down and stopped dying.

But there's just one mechanic I can't stand—and I refuse to go back into it because of this: that BS enrage near the end, the 0.2% health-left wipe.

Last patch cycle, I accepted it even though I didn't like it. I trudged through that mess on Suzaku every week just to get some virtual leaves to give to a dog with a big head. Well, I refuse to spend the next few months repeating this same enrage nonsense. And now I’m guessing the boss after this one will also have that absurd mechanic too.

So Square, you can keep your fake leaves. I’m sick of this trash. If I die 30 times to mechanics before that, okay—my fault. But enrage? Enrage is just such garbage.

And yeah, I know: “Skill issue” / “Mad 'cause bad.” I just don’t care anymore. I’m calling it how I see it.

Im wracking my brain to find the exception... but... doesnt every extreme have an enrage? Sure, some fights are easy to the point that hitting enrage is harder then clearing, but its still THERE. And being based on extremes, every unreal would have an enrage as well. Enrage exists to prevent fights from just becoming drawn-out war of attrition slogs. I remember a week 1 Ridoranna where the Math Boss took more then 25 mins to kill. There were 3 or 4 people who played essentially perfectly, and 20ish who were on the ground for more then 15 mins each. They would throw out a couple raises where they could, but whoever they got up would inevitably die(either to lack of healing on raidwides, or to the next spin-cycle attack). It was amazing, it was painful, it was painfully amazing and amazingly painful.

There is a player base in this game that likes to do stuff at max level and ins't doing the latest difficulty dungeon ... they enjoy housing, glam and a myriad of other things, which has been the attraction of ffxiv in the first place ... and this for a long time has been the draw of the game for many players, including older players, disabled players, those who may play for themselves, with their children, or even grandchildren in some cases. They happily made their way through the MSQ, making mistakes and learning, not burdening other players with their lack of speed and reactions, and making their way via duty support to end game.

However, come DT and things changed.. The speed with which aoe's are chucked out is ridiculous for some players except almost professional players. Yes, we can work out our mistakes, yes, we can move when need, but not at that speed. Not as an older/disabled player.

I think that it's not only the lack of content, diffuculty of content or whatever ... I think alot of older and/or disabled players that enjoyed the game and invested a lot of money through subs and/or online store purchases, have now decided it all too much and cancelled their subs. They cannnot progress any further, especially if, as Yoshi has said, it will get even more difficult.

I know my post is coming from only one part of the fandom, but I also know that many other parts are unhappy, so what should they do ... or will they go down the Blizz route and not listen to anyone?

My problem with savage isn't the "difficulty", it's just a memory game at the end of the day, my issue is that it's just a memory game - there is no skill expression, the mandatory damage is carefully calibrated to not kill you as long as the right buttons are pressed and the fail damage causes a wipe then and there, no room for healers to save the run, no room for tanks to do anything to save the run, no room for good dps players to beat the dps check anyway just "you slipped up, back to the start." From what I'm told Ultimate is the same but longer.

In terms of dungeon and trial content, I feel like partywide damage should be twice as high and thrice as often, that'd give healers an actual purpose to exist, tank busters too should be at least 50% stronger, if not 100%. Mitigate or die, also get healed or die and yeah, if tanks die on account of healers not doing their jobs then I'll be the first to complain with them about those healers not doing their jobs.

Yesterday I decided to let my sub lapse, and my houses demo. (FC and personal, on a few different worlds, mostly dynamis where they aren't in short supply. Not that supply is an issue now, with my home world having over 400 empty homes as we speak.) Not because I "can't" do the content, but because I realized doing it isn't FUN. I play games to relax and unwind, but fast paced "gotcha" mechs aren't that. FFXIV was made and billed as an MMORPG, not an action game, and so I think a lot of us who came for an MMORPG experience are sort of losing interest. My class fantasy is being killed off, as we no longer have class quests to explain our new moves, and the fast-paced nature of the fights no longer feel like the game I signed up for.

We can call for accessibility, which is desperately needed, but let's also just admit that this game no longer appeals to the crowd that it was made for. FF as a series seems to be embracing a more "action rpg" feel, and its core playerbase will also change as a result. I'm sad to leave, but if I'm not having fun, why stay?

The queues for this game are absolutely atrocious, especially as a DPS, which is why FFXIV lets you take NPCs into the dungeons now that you can complete them with, which is the only reason sprouts can actually complete the MSQ nowadays. The games totally not dying or anything though.

I agree that it's getting faster and faster. I think it's because they're doing less convoluted mechanics (random example: in Amdapor, there was this zombie gobbue that would eat a party member, but he'd taken his sweet time with it. I think they removed it, but you used to be able to give the tether to someone else to avoid being eaten lol) so they consider you need less time to solve them effectively.
However, pretty much none of these mechanics are actually "gotchas" unless it's the very first time you see one of its type back when you start the MSQ. Like some others on this thread mentioned before, the orange aoe has gone from being the "this is the danger zone" marker to a confirmation on whether you solve it correctly or not, and if not, it will punish you as appropriate. Older content mostly relies on castbars and mechanics that interacts with other things that aren't the boss's model, but nowadays they want you to look at the boss/arena for clues on how to solve a mech, stand where you think you will be safe, and see the confirmation on if you were right or not.

Could you please give me an example of a gotcha mechanic that got you? I know there are some still, but I can't quite remember them off the top of my head and Google isn't doing me any favors right now...

Trust exist for a reason, and even if you don't do trusts you can get carried by 3 other people, but it seems like everyone who actually has the capacity to play the game to do so doesn't anymore. So now your paired with 3 other people who just make things unfun unless you're playing tank and can solo the boss but that takes too long.

Savage should have multiple mechanics that can happen at any time and are randomized. I literally can't do savage after clearing the tier because it's so boring.

New World had a more interesting South American premise than FFXIV Dawntrail and New World is about to shut down, so that tells you South America as a game aesthetic isn't really that popular.
>>
Hot take : It feels better to run dungeons alone nowadays in MMOs.

People are retarded zoomers who know everythign and blaze through everything at light speed. No exploration, no questing, no time to enjoy stuff, to look at stuff. Playing with bots/soloing is unironically better. Same with wow. Raiding is too tedious, you re expected to brign consumables or learn bosses and shit, voice chats, schedules, then you keep wiping for stuff irrelevant to what youve done.

I bet the dozens of addon ringing and people talking completely overrides all the ingame music or sounds. and so on

>>
I don't think many people have unsubbed because DT is too hard, you're more apt to lose people if something is not hard/engaging enough. I know there have been people to bring this up but it's not good to punish 99% of the player-base because 1% is struggling. The easy solution is to allow trust/duty support avatars to revive you or you change the difficulty of the dungeon like how solo duties are for the trust/duty support. No one would be upset that someone cleared the most recent msq dungeon with revives from trust NPC's lol And I see people say there's a lack of content in DT but that's not even remotely true. It kinda comes down to what content you enjoy doing and if you don't enjoy doing extremes, field operations, pvp, deep dungeons, crafter/gatherer roles and alliance raids then there's just genuinely not much for you to play then aside from anything attached to msq lol

Put of the problem is consistency. The game should have a hard rule for how markers appear. Not oh one you have to watch weapon and one look for the visual in the background. But oh this one you can follow the markers. Some systems can be unique. Some should not. I don't want to play any game where I have to guess how combat is going to work fight to fight.

When people asked for more engaging dungeons, I don't think people just wanted harder bosses. This is a fault with the FFXIV devs, they only think about boss fights.

The trash pulls are still boring and that is the biggest problem, as it is the main way a dungeon can differentiate itself from a raid encounter. Even though the bosses are harder, you still don't need to know how to tank or heal. It's harder to do ARR dungeons as a support than in Dawntrail.

At the same time, Trusts are still stupidly punishing for some reason. You die once and it's a wipe, even though your "Healer" might still be alive. They let you use phoenix down in group content, which was a good change, but trusts are still hard for no reason. Why can't they be the story difficulty on the dungeons? That are nearly impossible to fail while roulette can be left harder.

Even though Dawntrail dungeons are more difficult than Endwalker, I still think they failed in how that difficulty was distributed.

Not to mention one reason why people might not want to do dungeons anymore is because the rewards are crap. Gear with terrible ILVLs (except for the times they happen to be old content bis like Ultimates). And to make matters worse, they are undyeable. I tried using gear from one of the recent dungeons lately in a glam set but gave up because I couldn't get colors to match.

they're the proto tutorial for gameplay mechanics. the majority of the lessons they teach are either obsolete, taught by the actual hall of the novice or are so unimportant they are unique to the guildhest

the time i mentioned for when its worth doing them is when you need company seals to rank up your grand company, you're out of GC log targets and the adventurer in need for guildhests is different than leveling roulette (which is the most GC seals per hour before turning in items for them)

The raidwide damage was pretty intense in Criterion Savage when the content was fresh. Especially surviving Gladiator's raidwide spam was very tight.

Many mob mechanics lost their orange telegraphs that were there in regular criterion. The patrolling ghost dude in the first room of Rokkon is the first one to come to mind. Mob telegraphs are also the majority of the moves that went from survivable to oneshots. The tornados in Aloalo also did 60k unmitigated damage on normal which was survivable, but went up to 180k in savage.

The trash damage was also the most intense tanking got in Endwalker. I spent more time thinking about my mit for the first room in AMRS than I did for all of P6 in DSR.
>>
>>724901014
They're a left-behind relic from nearly a decade ago. There's quite a lot of abandoned content in the game, unfortunately. I remember doing them for fun myself back in the day, but nowadays people just burn them down in seconds without having to do the mechanics.
>>
Some people applaud the new design, others detest it. Thus the world keeps turning.
>>
>>724901706
Understandable, that's a fair opinion. However, the game has always been like this, and it used to be much worse, so I'm wondering why it you didn't feel it was a problem before?
Bosses often had obscure mechanics unique to them that you may not see again for the rest of the expansion, take Diabolos's portal doors from Amdapor, or the boss before having the tank kill an add to be able to draw aggro in the first place. These mechanics could get quite punishing, too.

>no interesting hanging plot threads from the 7.0 MSQ to address.
Jumping randomly in this chain to talk about this cause I think about it a lot. How DT failed as a "new start" compared to ARR.
ARR set up so many little things for them to use. Major stuff like where expansions could go (Ishgard, Ala Mhigo, Doma, Dalmasca), and even small threads (for example, the Ishgardian noble you save from execution in the first Coerthas arc with Haurchefaunt would start the Restoration project in 5.0). Then characters like showing the mystery nigga Ascians, or having the Garland empire still a looming threat, and primals were still an issue, and the Eorzean Alliance wasn't stable yet.
But like you said, end of DT the only thing we have is Calyx and mystery nigga nu-Ascian, and the chalice in your pocket. So until they do something, all that's coming in MSQ is whatever random shit is made up for the new expansion. Literally all other conflicts or anything loose is resolved, especially after the current tribal quests.
Because they want to lean into shard hopping shit, they don't have to plan anything out expansions in advance, they just make it up on the fly, more egregious than they did in the beginning.
I'm just ranting about it, cause it genuinely bothers me thinking about it lol

https://vaanratsbane.itch.io/drs-super-chess

In general though outside of the trash, the dungeon plays identically. For gladiator at least my groups resolved it by just using personals and tank short cd on the weakest member, it wasn't really an issue. The healing was by far the most intense on trash in general, and in aloalo I felt like it was less intense but it could be just anecdotal. I did all 3 on the same tank and aloalo definitely felt less damaging on the trash than specifically rokkon's first trash and both packs of sildihn. And fwiw I did all 3 on patch.
>>
>>724902126
>especially after the current tribal quests.
Oh and I mean this very loosely. Pelu was just setting up tourism, Mamool Ja was continuing the one thing G'raha set up for them (finding compatible vegetables), and Yok Hoy was inventing "btw those snow spirits you beat up in the 73 dungeon are actually frens".
Dunno, I'm ranting, but I guess that's the nature of they have to approach things now. They can't leave things to be "set up" for 3 expansions later, so they don't want to pile on too much and make sure things are resolved now.
>>
People using plugins in world first clears and selling clears is hardly something new. My FC was selling Titan hard clears for gils back in 2.0 and you had several website selling it and Bahamut's coil for real money. Pretty much the same for cheating plugins, the big difference now is people becoming more careless and dumb with them, streaming or screenshoting their game with visible plugins on it. Anyone seriously believing that any world first competing team doesn't use plugins is just delusional.
>>
>>724902126
People don't want to admit it, but the height of FFXIV storytelling and writing was actually ARR-Heavensward, not ShB. ARR-Heavensward set up all the world building and plot threads that were eaten up and used in SB and ShB, problem being they didn't replace them with anything leading to the clusterfuck that was Endwalker and now we see that the new writing staff don't have the chops to create quest threads, characters and build a world the way the ARR-Heavensward writers did, leaving the entire world and MSQ feeling dry, stale, and uninteresting. This game is fucked, since it's not like said writing staff is going to magically develop new talents in the next expansion. You're never getting a conflict as interesting as the Dragonsong War or a character as awesome as Ilberd ever again.

Punishing vs challenging. This is the issue I'm having right now as a person who does the savage raids. I don't mind that part of the fights is like learning a choreographed dance, I can find fun in that aspect, but when that's ALL there is, it gets grating. Hell I don't even mind a couple of body checks during a hard fight, but M8S in particular is just Netcode Bodycheck Savage. It's not a fun fight when there's little to no chance of saving a run, just hours of "nope, wipe and start over." Like sure, I can use Cover as a Paladin on a healer while the LB3, but it doesn't even feel that cool because it doesn't matter, the fact that we had to do that at all means it's most likely a lost cause because the DPS were down for 5 GCDs so we might as well give up now and wipe because we won't hit the DPS check. Savage has always been difficult, that's the point, I know, but something feels different now. I actually really enjoyed M6S because I felt like I really got to shine as a tank and manage aggro and keep enemies apart and manage my shields well, but that fight stands out as unusual in that regard.

If I could change things with the game's lore in how it was developed, I'd start with HW, changing the whole "thirteen reflections" to just be one other world (where Ardbert and the others are from). The Void would've just stayed the Void, it's own entity of empty/negative space.
My idea would be our world (Hydaelyn) is being drained to fuel the other world (Zodiark), which is what each Calamity is doing. So you could still have the Shadowbringers moment of going to that world.
But I feel like right now of them doing the 13 reflections, they kinda stretched things out way too thin when it came to world-building. Recent ones were just made so simplistic without any further thought put behind it.

I mostly just do normal content, and a few extremes, and I don't think normal content has gotten too hard. What's happened mostly is that a lot of the fights now assume that you know (as you should after 100 levels) to pay attention to the boss's cast bar and actually look at the boss to see for example if he's going to hit left or right. A lot of players have gotten through a lot of fights without learning to watch those things, but it's truly not too difficult for anyone.

What I've come to dislike about FF difficulty in recent alliance raids, is how many fights have a tricky part near the end. Often balanced in a such a way that you can completely skip it with enough dps. That means with a better team, that could handle the trickier parts perfectly well, never gets to see it. And a team that is already struggling, then gets hit with some even more tricky mechanics.

Giving better players the easy mode fight is not how content should be designed.

The vast majority of players who are eligible to do lets say Delubrum Reginae, will not go through multiple loading screens to talk to a random npc to que up for a dungeon and be jailed inside the camp.
But they would absolutely que up for it from Limsa and do whatever the hell they want while waiting. Its a huge QoL upgrade without any downsides, that is without a doubt would be the difference between a content being dead or not.
I would rather have a little immersion breaking, than having a delubrum where its becoming lore accurate in terms of "nobody has been here for years".
>>
Overall, hardcore raiders have been eating a tad bit better in Dawntrail but again they only have two more raid than usual to do. For a damn long time the devs were unable/unwilling to pump interesting content in good number, it has very little to do with the big evil hardcore raiders.

Aside from our religious spammer getting banned once for a straight year as a cumulative effect (his actual ban reason at the time was for porn dumps, he has a thing for Ryne) the closest he's ever come to any kind of permanent action is when he had to be careful because the CP spamming services owned by Leto went down, at the same time as a high number of other threads lost their own "dedicated schizos" because bans would actually stick on them now

I can tell who doesn't play healer from the amount of people here throwing their hands up in the air and saying even if you res someone, you wipe. In Ultimates, maybe, but most savages have enough wiggle room to make it so healers can EASILY res the dps into the DPS' correct position, then run/dash over to their own position. Which is the skill aspect. But yeah, if you're a non-support DPS you're mostly snoozing lol.

The game does have high skill expression. Doing mechanics while also putting out good numbers takes time, effort, and practice. Gaining that consistency while also outputting numbers or heals is complex. Doing that all quickly and in a higher stress environment takes skill. That's just undeniable fact. And, if you're going blind? Compound solving mechanics yourself instead of waiting for Hector to make a video. Anyone, including you, who says there isn't skill expression is simply wrong. There is a continent of difference between someone who struggles to clear on week 30 and someone who clears week 1. It's insane to claim otherwise. I could go into paragraph upon paragraph about the differences.

It's true that I didn't finish the tier, having spent weeks getting nowhere with M8S and not having fun, I made the logical and reasonable decision to stop banging my head against that particular wall. As much as you may not like my analysis, based on my experience, doesn't make it invalid. I did see a "different version of FF's combat" and, in my opinion, it was worse than what I'd seen in extreme for all the reasons I gave in my post that got quoted. If you like "the dance" and wiping because one person made one mistake, good for you, I don't. I don't consider it "skill" and I don't consider it good game design. For the record, I quite enjoyed Chaotic - as evidenced by the fact that I have both the mounts and still have a pile of gear boxes from it, chaotic was fun, with the exception of M6S which was great fun savage was not fun.

People love to complain about player numbers when it suits them to bolster their own argument but really what difference does it make if there are 1 million or 2 million or 500,000 people playing the game? Does that make the game more fun for your personally to know that there are 1.9mil other people player over only 499,999 thousand?

The number matters for the people at square tasked with making money, but doesn't really matter to players unless it drops to the threshold where the game isn't profitable at all.

DT had a gigantic starting population which shows that people were actually interested in the new story forward. Even IF that stance was true, it would simply show that people were only staying around to see the end of the story arc and the game is simply not good enough to hold their interest. No matter how often some people want to repeat that argument, the point is that this game failed to hold players, be it veterans, WoW refugees or new players.

The whole "we are going back to normal numbers" is also nonsense.
Imagine Yoshida in a meeting with the higher ups saying "it's fine, we only go back to normal numbers".
There is a reason why he stopped saying "play other games" or why we finally see at least promises of changes.

It's honestly crazy to me that some people repeatedly forget (or don't want to see) that this whole game is a business first and foremost and losing players to this extend is definitely not normal and not wanted. The extreme defenders are as idiotic as the extreme doomers at this point. No, the game won't die but it is not in a healthy place either right now.

Anyways I hate tab targetting gcd MMOs, xiv should have just copied dofus/ wakfu but make it have better graphics or something.
>>
Not even being doomer, but all you have to do is log in and see how few people there are hanging around, even on Aether. I've been around since patch HW and have never seen the pop so low during a lull in content, even in Endwalker patches I saw more people hanging around. The hunt train argument doesn't hold a lot of weight because that's a certain part of the community that loves doing that every day and making trains for it; there will always be people around doing that.

It didn’t help that the story devs for DT were essentially a new team and we got a preview of their work in 6.1 to 6.5. I was worried but I stuck it out, my fears were proved correct when DT hit and it looks like SE may have pulled some of their vets back to the game late in the 7.x patches to try and right the ship.

Sadly, the damage is done and we lost a lot of players permanently or at the very least, until they see reviews of the game, not from 8.0 but more like 8.3. Many I know want to see a long term trend before they spend money again. I’m expecting preorders for 8.0 to be much lower than past expansions, probably close to ShB.

FFXIV has finished its main storyline. Games naturally will see a portion of their population leave after that point. It just happened with Destiny 2. It happened with WoW years ago when the Lich King expansion ended. They had an active playerbase at the time of ~12 million. It cratered right after when Cata released, and it recently took two solid expansions in a row just to get back up to ~2 million (meaning over 80% of its one-time playerbase has left). It'll naturally happen to some degree with FFXIV, too. Game studios end up in a lose-lose situation...they'll get trashed if they put a game into maintenance mode at the height of its popularity, and if they keep going instead, it'll never be "as good" as the culmination of the main story. DT is basically the new ARR. It's entirely possible that FFXIV will have another major hit of an expansion a little ways down the road - the question will be if the naysayers bring themselves to acknowledge that it took installments like DT laying the foundation for that future one to really fly.

Remember when the PLD questline hyped up that legendary sword back in ARR, just to end up giving it to some faggy twink elf at the end of HW's PLD questline instead of you (despite you doing all the work)? The same quest where the entire plot was just a troll by the Roegadyn dude and nothing that happened actually fucking mattered.

It was at that point I realized whoever wrote the PLD quests absolutely despised the player.
>>
>>724921909
Whoever wrote PLD quests enormously overestimated how much anybody would give a shit about the Sultansworn and failed to write them as a particularly interesting knightly order, the Sultansworn being in anything but their twilight years or even outright near-death as is the case in the game is also incompatible with Ul'dah's Monetarists having a governmental stranglehold at the time that Paladin is introduced

Given Ishgard is a stand-in for San d'Oria, if Coerthas and Ishgard were properly introduced in 1.0 then the Paladins would almost certainly have been assigned to Ishgard and not to Ul'dah

Matoya ded, but really I don't think you have to spend a lot of time doing voice lines. It's probably a day, maybe two. Since the VAs are supposed to be voice acting in a booth not face to face with other characters.

>>724921560
They couldn't change gears suddenly. Frankly it's panning out as I expect if she's utterly gone in 7.4 where Yoshi ended up with a pile of steaming dogshit and he was too far from 8.0 to go "Yeah I know this expansion sucked but NEXT ONE IS GREAT PLEASE LOOK FORWARD TO IT", he still needed to sell DT and shuck and jive for it. It'll be in Fanfest when we get the closest to any dogezas one could reasonably hope for. Which will probably just be a polite way of saying
"We took your feedback into consideration" "We learned from Dawntrail that you all want XYZ". Positivity rather than negativity. I would love for a bait and switch of showing Wuk lamat then a giant circle with a red crossout, but that'll never happen.

I am tired of the FF7 break glass idea though. Esoteric vague references to it will not be a crowd-seller. It's going to be Hingashi (Everybody loves weeb shit), Ishikawa (banking on nostalgia for SHB and END), maybe resurrect Emet/Zenos but that'll be a desperate (desperate, your turn) move.

Some anon bullshit an idea of a leaked race of void imps somewhere between a lalafell and au ra in height ("2nd shortest race"). ZERO proof, but I honestly buy that idea. New race will stoke interest, cutesy uwu one will stoke Japanese fans, it requires not an inordinate amount of work if it's piggybacking off an existing skeleton model (or even better face rigging too)

I mean their entire organization's "lore" is being potato bodyguards. They have the lamest lore of any class in the game.
>>
>>724922431
They were originally a warrior priest order devoted to Azeyma during the time of Belah'dia. The Sultansworn you see today are completely fallen because of centuries of misuse and intentional sabotage.
>>
>>724922431
Was the point that they're just a bad organizational concept, yes

All the main regions in Eorzea are pretty flimsy or outright boring in their own ways when you actually stop and investigate them in part because FFXI's devs writing the setting concept were lazily porting over everything they could and rewriting names to make it look like they weren't copying homework, and because they weren't even slightly close to getting their bearings in writing those areas in the first place
>>
>>724889595
>>you have only 3-4 buttons in a lot of early dungeons
Ironically, ARR content has a manageable number of buttons for each class for your average player, with lvl 50 starting to push it. Past 50, button and mechanics bloat become too much for your average midwit unless they are playing Summoner. It's why you see tons of people playing retardedly sub optimal. And god help you if your normie friend wants to play Black Mage.
>>

You claim they were just copying homework in one post, and then say they fucked up because they didn't copy their homework for paladin even though they were perfectly capable because Dragoon is Ishgardian. FFXI puts in a monumental amount of effort to flesh out it's world and story, even a simple look at the world design itself tells you just how much the developers cared about the game through all the excruciatingly tiny details they added. It would be preferable if you didn't discuss games that were made before you were born. The team that made 1.0 was not the XI dev team, neither was the team that rebuilt it as ARR. They did cheesily re-use many assets from XI when rebuilding the game but that does not equate to the people working on it having been the XI team.

The level of quality and sanity of the mechanics between the two games are as different as you doodling in MSPAINT and the mona lisa.

They're not, it's a core plot point in CoP. Only the Five Races bear Promathia's darkness. It's the darkness that shapes people into those races specifically. His darkness and the fear of death inside those races is also the driving factor for why they develop culturally, in contrast to the beastmen. At the very end Jabbos tries to tell the moblins that they aren't the children of Promathia but they get confused and think he's telling them they're all children of Promathia, and he just lets them believe that because he thinks it will lead to peace.

It's crazy how much PLD lore in WoW mogs PLD lore in FFXIV. The Paladin lore wiki page on WoWpedia is like miles longer than the FFXIV pld wiki lore page.

>WoW Paladins: Former order of priests who turned militant and self-taught how to wear plate armor and wield melee weapons while simultaneously wielding their holy incantations as priests during the 1st war in response to the orc invasion, becoming the first Paladins.
>Had a dude named Lothar who became a legendary hero during the war against the orcs until he fell in battle, but his death only inspired his men to fight even harder to avenge him, leading to them winning the war
>Established a holy order of Paladins dedicated to protecting human kingdom of Lordaeron
>One of their most notable membrs was their prince Arthas, who would eventually go down a dark path after the undead outbreak and end up being corrupted by Frostmourne, becoming the first Death Knight and unleashing the scourge upon his own kingdom, as well as murdering his former Paladin mentor and best friend Uther and his own father before leaving his nation in ruin
>Around this same time, another legendary Paladin, Alexander Mograine, was corrupted by the Lichlord Kelthuzad, a former human mage who sided with the scourge for Power, and manipulated his one of his own sons (also a paladin) into killing him with his holy sword the Ashbringer, corrupting the sword. His other son, Darion, would end up sacrifice himself during a battle against the Scourges forces to stop the Scourge, only to be later reanimated as a Death Knight like his father
>Remaining members of the Paladin order all went insane after these events and became the Scarlet Crusade, a group of extremist paladins who literally believe everyone besides them are tainted by the Scourge and need to be exterminated

Meanwhile FFXIV Paladin lore:

>They were bodyguards of a race of cabbage patch kids a long time ago lol lmao

WOW

No, Fei'yin is where the sabotage occurred but the Meltdown burst from all five Mothercrystals. You're literally shown Holla and Mea exploding in a cutscene. And they did not align anything to darkness. If you're thinking of the Ark Angels, those are five specific Zilart warriors who were transformed because they attuned to Promathia's darkness inside the crystals they were guarding. Because again it is Promathia's darkness that causes the forms of the Five Races in the first place.
Would you like the screenshot of Diabolos telling you that removing Promathia's darkness from your soul turns people into beastmen?

how about island sanctuary? she can begin as soon as completing base ew. i'm not sure if it's the best use of training her hec since there's not too much going on, but it still a very relaxing experience to spend an hour or so per day.

for combat content, maybe blue mage could help, especially with bst on its way with hopefully more limited job content that she'd be prepared to join in on. spell hunting is still fun and the customization feels rewarding. she can then do the carnivale. another option is occult crescent to begin farming demiatmas for the relic which then turns into aetherwell accumulation in roulettes if she wants to. people ko so, so often in oc still, so she hopefully she won't be nervous about playing in a sea of 70 people since she'll likely just get lost in the crowd until she gets her bearings. just skip and ignore ft. oc is actually chill and enjoyable when you go at your own pace.

this is cute. i wish anyone in my family played video games i like with me.
