How can anyone stand wearing one of these for more than an hour without their ears hurting?
some people are blessed with small ears, mine are massive so i just use earbuds
How is a gaming headset different from a headset?
>>724886929More expensive because marketing.
for me its the damp ears after 20-30mins, i only really use it for the mic.
>>724886831Earbuds are great. I use a pair of cheap IEMs for just about everything. Sure you have to set up a separate microphone for gaming purposes but it's worth it.
>>724886737I got one of these Stingers for free on warranty after they killed the last model I used, honestly they've been great and really aren't that expensive. It's been a couple years and the only issue they've gotten is sometimes audio cutting in or out when you're adjusting the volume wheel. Not a shill they're just cheap and comfortable and I have no reason to replace them.
As soon as they come back in stock, I'm picking up one of these Audeze Maxwells.Anybody here have one? Thoughts?
>>724886737Gaymang headsets are a meme. Get studio headphones.
you don't really feel it when you're talking with peoplemy ears are sensitive and i hate them long term tooi've switched to using my bone conduction headset for everything that isn't voicechat while gaming
>>724886737they simply aren't all built equal. i have one set that starts sucking after 2 hours. i have another that i can wear all day and not notice. however the comfy ones have shittier sound quality. you just have to buy different ones till you find something that fits your head.
obligatory posy
>>724888925Don't. Heavy as shit. Shit quality control.Get a Beyerdynamic MMX 330 Pro or a 300 Pro, depending if you like open back or not. They are wired, but much better quality for both the build and studio grade sound.
>>724893921Shit quality control? That's the first I'm hearing of it so that sucks if true. I already knew about the weight but figured I could deal with it.
>>724889472This. DT 770 Pros are comfy as fuck.>b-but 1/4"Buy an adapter, retard.
They’re good to get immersed into the game you’re playing. Especially for racing or anything tactical where listening to your surroundings is important.
By buying quality, instead of constantly paying the equivalent of a subscription to replace poorshit headsets over and over again.
just get real headphones and a mic. why get shitty headphones with a shitty mic built in?
>>724893365Based and helpful pilled. I shall look into actual headphones.
>>724895261>b-but 1/4"... you know it's got an adapter built in rightthe 1/4" screws off to reveal the 1/8" inside.why are you shilling headphones you don't own?
Just go to a store to try out different ones before you find something suitable. Other than a build in mic there's really no reason to get a gaming headset over just normal ones. From personal experience Cloud 2 has felt good and has decent audio quality, don't really know how Cloud 3 has improved on it though.
>>724886737i've been feeling like my eardrums start hurting even at lower volumes, not really sure why. tried adjusting things with an equalizer and it only helped a little. i've ended up just using speakers more when i can. maybe open headphones would be better? but that doesn't help much if i want to use them late at night or something.
>>724886737I have speakers and a standalone microphone though, headphones/headsets are for people that don't own a house.
>>724886737For me my ears don't hurt, but the heat is completely unbearable.
>>724896367you should get your ears looked at. that ain't normal.
>>724886929The only over the ear headsets you will find are gaming ones. Call centers/offices use those awful cheap silver ones, and anything nicer is usually just made as a headphone, with no mic.It is shockingly hard to find a good high quality headset.
>>724896837>It is shockingly hard to find a good high quality headset.not that hard. there's only like four of them.and you can stick a mic onto any headphone.
>>724887630I don't know if I'm just unlucky but I had three of those die on me over one year, at least it was within the warranty and they just kept replacing them but I stopped buying HyperX after that.
>>724896837sennheiser pc38x or buy any good headphones and a mod mic.its actually retarded that people pay $300+ for a shitty wireless gaming headset that sounds like ass.
Just ordered a Fio F1 or whatever, cause my headset crapped out after like a decade.Still gonna try fixing it just cause. Will see how this Fio deal is tho, heard they're alright.Pretty sure the Cloud Core is still the recommended headset from mid low budget till you get to properly gucci shit.
>>724888925>>724893921I have the Maxwells and they're probably the best headset I've ever had. Especially for the price.Lil bro is right about quality control but I was lucky and mine are fine. They've probably got their shit together by now. They are a little heavier than any other headset I've had before but it honestly doesn't feel any different to wearing other sets. Maybe it's because I'm a powerlifter but I don't get what people are complaining about when they say they're heavy. If you do get them you need to download a program like soundkeeper which just sits in the background playing audio on mute forever because the auto-sleep on the maxwells is so aggressive that inbetween songs being played they will sleep and you'll miss the first 0.5 seconds of every bit of sound you play if you don't have something like soundkeeper running.Out of the box I thought they sounded awful but fucking with the EQ I could get them just how I wanted them. The wireless is pretty nice, don't let people talk you down into wired. It's nice to be able to get up and walk around your room or even go downstairs and keep hearing audio. I once forgot I had them on and got partway into my deadlifts before feeling them slip off making me realise I still had them on my head.tl;dr: They're good, there are other good headsets too, do what you feel like.
>>724896932>>724897315You can, but I actually use my gaming headset for calls and shit in the car, or if I just feel too lazy to hold my phone. The mic + headphone set up only works if you are at your desk not moving.
>>724898226no you idiot, there are gaymer style microphones that you can stick onto any headphone.or if you're not homosexual you can get a lavalier mic.
This is all you need to improve your gaming session, they're not cheap however the sound fidelity is far superior to any headset, you also avoid head dent. Cheaper IEM'ss are also an option.
>>724899686head dent isn't real.
>>724898218>because the auto-sleep on the maxwells is so aggressive that inbetween songs being played they will sleep and you'll miss the first 0.5 seconds of every bit of sound you play if you don't have something like soundkeeper runningThat sounds annoying as shit actually. You sure there isn't a setting to change that in the app? Even Razer headsets have a setting to control when their headsets go to "autosleep" pretty sure.
>>724899963Nice try Razer™, but I won't buy your headset
let me guess, you need more
>>724901976>$44i remember buying these for 25 over a decade agothey were my first pair of proper headphones
>>724888925I bought my maxwells new off ebay for 160$ just buy them there. They are good, heavy, so if you have a twink neck they are gonna weigh you down. I like them a lot, I came for HD380pros that finally died
I just picked up these, they arrive tomorrow. Hope I like them. I need closed backs with very good isolation and comfort and they seem to fit both those, also I have been using the 599se forever and love them so I'm used to Sennheiser soundI was considering maxwells but planar seem like a nightmare to take care of. Hoping to revisit gaming headsets in a few years and hopefully they are better than they are now.
Why are companies afraid of releasing FR graphs with their headphones?
>>724905914because frequency response graphs aren't objective.they're only useful as a relative measure against other headphones measured on the exact same setup.
I use these for gaming, extremely satisfied
>>724901976i have a pair of those ten feet from me and yes, i needed more
>>724893365this image is old as fuck
>>724895560XM5 has 200ms latency and will hiss when used wired and turned onthey can still be turned off but then the EQ DSP is off and it will sound like assThe same goes for XM6 but even worse, they have a lower latency mode but ANC has a permanent faint whistleAlso ANC can cause temporary tinnitus that takes days to weeks to resolve because of the white noise they produce in ANC mode.
perfection
>>724905914Because the mediums are only comparable between measurements on the same measurement system and headphones are difficult to consistently measurePeople will also debunk dogshit unit variance and channel imbalance if it's there and they claimed it doesn't have it.>>724906698meant 200+ms, it's ambiguous what the exact number is but it's certainly above 200~220
>>724906698>XM5 has 200ms latency and will hiss when used wired and turned onWhat? It has no wire. Do you mean the power connection? The one it comes with is only a couple of cms long, way too short to use it. Also it recharges really really fast. Just a couple of minutes and it's at 100% again. You are using it wrong.>Also ANC can cause temporary tinnitus that takes days to weeks to resolve because of the white noise they produce in ANC mode.Make people with tinnitus are just doing it wrong. You are not supposed to focus on the white noise. Just ignore it. lmao
>>724906926have you seen its frequency response graph? it has a huge hole in the midbass and the usual middle finger treble
>>724907239>What? It has no wire.It has a wire if you use it with the included 3.5mm cable and it is the only way to remove the latency bluetooth audio has, idiotaThe way it works is the audio gets processed by the ADC in the headphone, then EQ DSP'd so it doesn't sound like ass, this process causes a hissing because the ADC is of poorer quality than the DAC.>You are not supposed to focus on the white noise.Prolonged exposition to ANC white noise *will* cause tinnitus and/or auditory processing disorders, it does not matter if you focus on it or notIt's not widely documentated but it has already happened to many people, there is a news article of a bose user offing themselves because of the damn ANC, the only mistake the guy did was trust that the ANC headphone would ANC without side effects.
>>724907676>It has a wire if you use it with the included 3.5mm cable and it is the only way to remove the latency bluetooth audio has, idiotamine didn't come with that>The way it works is the audio gets processed by the ADC in the headphone, then EQ DSP'd so it doesn't sound like ass, this process causes a hissing because the ADC is of poorer quality than the DAC.I don't get that hissing sound.I intentionally bought the WH-1000X M5, because it has good ANC and is wireless, so I can stand up and do other things, while continuing to listen to youtube videos. Also my neighbors are annoying, so I use the headphones to not have to hear them.>Prolonged exposition to ANC white noise *will* cause tinnitus and/or auditory processing disorders, it does not matter if you focus on it or notI have been using it for 2 years now and haven't noticed anything bad. The headphones are really good. Best I ever had. My only mistake was using alcoholic wipes to wipe them down, which destroyed the cushion, but Amazon just replaced them for me for free, because I still had warranty.
>>724908392The 3.5mm cable is in the case, XM5 will have an small audible hiss when connecting to other devices and another thats much louder and cannot be ignored if used wired and turned on, turn off ANC to hear it more clearly
>>724901976RIP to my old pair of these, 2018-2023. The wiring in the cable on mine probably became severed after years of the aux cable gently pulling down on it while left on the headphones rack.I probably could fix it, but I ended up getting picrel on sale for around $30 back in 2023.
>>724908392ANC is fundamentally a problem, as it cancels noise by sending the opposite phase wave through the headphones to cancel out the sound waves you would've otherwise heard. Basically, it is constantly emitting inaudible sound into your ears. It's something that may be apropriate for short use, but regular exposure to long sessions of ANC 100% results in tinnitus and other possible hearing damage. You're better off getting a pair of closed backs that are noise ISOLATING, not cancelling. Noise isolation is all passive. It's about build quality, foam, insulation, etc. My main question is why in the world do you need ANC at your desk/couch? The XM series are good cans (if a little bass heavy), so I'm not really shitting on that decision. It's a good buy, just not for how you're using them.
>>724910173>My main question is why in the world do you need ANC at your desk/couch?Because I am living in an multi-family house with a drug dealer below me, who likes to listen to loud music and my ANC can perfectly tune it out, allowing me some peace and quiet.Once I live in a house again, I don't need them anymore, sure. But right now they are improving my quality of life.
>>724910173Bruh what sort of crack addict logic. Active noise canceling might not make sense for computer use, and where the background noise isn't steady. But without it half the people flying pistons and turboprops would've gone deaf long ago.
>>724910173Isn't the world itself constantly emitting sound waves into your ears? I feel like ears are build to have sound going into them literally every day all day. Please source anything saying ANC causes tinnitis
>>724906926>bonded leather headbandenjoy picking black shit out of your hair
>>724914182note the snaps on top. you can swap it to something else if you want.
i have a big wireless headset that is pretty comfortable, it just makes the backs of my ears sweaty if I wear them too long
Is there a list of headphones that don't force the sleeper setting like >>724898218 I've tried steel series arctis nova 7 and they don't do that. Turtle beach does though on all their headphones, amazon review say hyperX does the same thing on their headsets. Asus also does, tried their ROG II which was pretty shitThis dogshit "feature" makes me so mad, I'd rather have way less battery life than something so aggresively anti-QoL
>gamer headsetsHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHA XD
HD6XX master race. comfiest headphones ever, i can wear them for 10-12 hours straight or longer and not even realize they're there. hell i've been on drug binges and had them on for 30+ hours only taking them off to piss i've had them for 6 years and they're just like the day i got them, i just replace the pads from time to timeopen backs are the White mans headphone
>>724886737Buy grown up brands, son, something like: Beyerdynamic MMX 330 Pro
>>724888925They're great, even for music. I really like them but they're a bit heavy.
I still prefer buying separate headphones and mic, I rarely use the mic anyway. I use the Apos x A\udio Technica ATH-R70x Refine, they're my favorite pair of headphones that I own. They sound great for music and games, and I can wear them all day comfortably, which is all I really look for.
I use my audio technica ath-m50x with cloth earpads they are extremely comfy i have a pair of astros for when i need to mic up and they are also extremely comfy
When I wear my old headphones too long, the area above my ears hurts the most. So I stick to speakers. Are there any good headphones that don't put pressure on my head but also don't fall off? I don't need a mic, I already have a desk one.
>>724920434see >>724918808
>>724920434You can probably just bend the headband to make them a bit looser, and/or get bigger pads. Otherwise the HD6XX is great for comfort, so is the R70x. For closed-back, the DT 770 is still one of the best. Beyerdynamic made some newer variants of the DT 770 a few years ago, those might be worth checking out too.

>>724920581>>724920891Thanks, I just came into the thread without reading much. I'll see what sort of sales come up for black friday.
>>724901976Jesus, what kind of monstrosity of a headband is that?
>>724920581they're on a nice sale now actually, $179 is probably as good as it's going to getthey need an amp/dac but can probably get a decent combo for ~$40 these days
I can use some recommendations (try to keep it below $200 total).I want to buy some IEMs but the main ones on the /g/ thread are so weirdly shapen, they always fucking fall out of my ears or tangle up and its extremely annoying.
>>724921295meant for >>724921232
>>724887630Just got this the other day to replace my shitty broken old Razer ones, pretty good so far.
>Why yes I still use my 10 year old pair of Sennheiser HD650s, how could you tell?
>>724903097>>724921386Aren't Sennheisers insanely overpriced? I put off buying HD560s when they were $150, they are now $250 or more on most listers. HD600s were $220 back then, they are now $450 and up. This was less than a year ago, yet I hear people buying HD6XX for $80 on here.
>>724921386>Only 10 years
>>724921432varies a lot from model to model. HD650 were ~$500 for years until the HD6XX came out on Drop for $250 even though they're the same exact headphones. hell today the HD650 are ~$450 on Amazon while the 6XX are on sale for $179as of now the 6XX are pretty much the ultimate budget headphone if you like open backs and are fine with getting an amp/dac
>>724921321I also got an Adam H200 headset (they work fine) and a blue yeti snowball, but i always wanted something better
>>724921321Do you think you have bigger ears/canals? Try one of the Ziigaats. The Lush is quite good if you like a relaxed tune.
>>724921593I have big ears. I don't know about canals.I just have trouble keeping them in my ears, especially when I wrap it around like they are supposed to be worn
>>724921432I got a HD6XX from Massdrop for $200, and paired it with an O2+ODAC from JDS Labs. It's worth it when you consider the fact they last forever, Sennheiser being fully modular and having replaceable parts. You could probably find a used pair for a good price.
>>724886737I have the official Xbox headset, they're amazing when used on the xbox and you can pair another device to it at the same time like your PC so you can have PC audio and the Xbox audio at the same time. Like if you wanted to hear a Twitch Stream while playing Ninja Gaiden on your Xbox you can do it with this headset
>>724887007They are cheaper and offer more features than their wired, "audiophile" counterparts.
>>724922027This isn't true anymore, there's perfectly good headphones that are affordable these days. And those 'features' are just useless gimmicks. The best gaming headphones aren't even advertised for gaming, like the AD900X.or Fidelio X2.
>>724921689Damn, that's a pain. This is when you should take advantage of Amazon. Research IEMs with a bigger shell and look into how they graph. Squiglink is your friend for graphs.
I need a pair of headphones where the wire comes out of the right earcup any suggestions?
What's the point of open back when the world produces so much noise>pc noise>ac noise>other people>animals>people mowing lawns>cars>airplanes>helicopters>birdsThe world is a noisy noisy place. I hate it, closed backs just make sense to me. Isolate me completely from the world and build the sound around me.
>>724922551They usually either connect to the left or both at once
>>724907676>there is a news article of a bose user offing themselves because of the damn ANClolNow you believe retarded journos?Get real
>>724922827Depends on your environment. Open-back headphones are more comfortable and have better soundstage to me. But I have the luxury of a quiet home.If I lived somewhere like India they would probably be useless.
>>724912531>Please source anything saying ANC causes tinnitisHe won't because he's talking out of his ass.
>>724922258So you just confirmed my post, they are overpriced and have bad user reviews.Currently a headset from reddragon offers wireless, surround sound and a detachable microphone. At half the price of fidelio x2.
For me, it's the ATH m50xGot this son of bitch for 80usd in my shithole. Not sure why the dt770 costs like 50% more here so I opted for it
>>724886737>ears hurtingstop wearing it too tight>my neck hurtsgo work out your shoulders to strength the muscles there, it shouldn't be getting tired.
>>724922827Because even with all of that, they still sound better than closed backs.
>>724923398I'm not a kid so I can't fathom choosing a vastly worse product just to save a measly $100. But you do you.
>>724923516any situation you would use open backs in you can use speakers in for an even better sound for cheaper.
For me? It's the XM4 because it's wireless and has great ANC>OMG! It has 200ms of latencyI've been using bluetooth headphones with similar latency for 8+ years now and you literally won't notice the difference when watching movies and playing games. For competitive shooters you won't notice it unless you're at the pro level where every minor difference counts.t. I was top 500 in Overwatch S1-2 (lol), Global in CSGO (lmao) and immortal in Dota 2 (holy kek). Basically I'm always top 1% in every competitive game I play so people that put the blame of losing on their headphones are just shitters.>ANC causes TINNITUS High volume causes tinnitus, not anti-noise sound waves. The whole "ANC causes tinnitus" is just people that already have tinnitus and some form of visual snow noticing it more when they wear ANC headphones with no sound playing
>>724923602Headphones are better for pinpointing the sound of enemies in games, at least. Even in games like War Thunder this gives you a major advantage.
>>724923598My initial reply was to someone's post who claimed that gaming headsets are more expensive which was proven wrong.
>>724907284>it has a huge hole in the midbass and the usual middle finger trebleThose are features. Remember they are consumer headphones not studio monitors. They produce an excellent soundstage regardless but the low mids dip gives you even more separation, there is so much space it sounds like the music stretches out for yards around you. Combined with the boosted treble, it gives an overall really dreamy sound for orchestral music or really dreamy trancey electronic stuff, with all the air and space around everything and then the really rich sparkle of the brass and synths at the top. Absolutely kino with an OLED in HDR seeing particle effects pop out the screen when you cast a spell and hearing the glittery sparkle of the sound effect.

>>724923953Especially open backs. The MMX 330 Pro is exceptional at this.
>>724924924There's an autistic child criticizing ANC, latency and blabbering about tinnitus not even 20 posts above mine.Do you just read the last 10 posts in a thread when joining it?
I just bought the Beyerdynamic DT 990 pro less than a week ago, moving on from using the Simgot EA500 IEMs.Its definitely strange swapping from in ear to over and I'm still getting used to the pressure on my ears 5 days later but the sound quality is great although a bit quieter. Someone on /g/ explained that over ears are always quieter than in ears unfortunately. When I say quieter I mean that I've had to adjust volume settings, with my IEMs I could have my volume at 20 but with over ears it needs to be 50.The Beyers sound great though and I've even started to hear background noises that I normally found inaudible partly due to hearing loss. So I have zero complaints aside from the ear pain that takes some getting used to.Thanks again ni/g/gas.
