japan was on some trans-humanity flow in the mid 90s. they were seriously evaluating their place in the world, being the center of the technological revolution and taking humanity to the next stage, which wasn't going to well for them at that time.
ghost in the shell also called in to question the very nature of human memory itself, and supposed whether data is a sufficient replacement for human memory

All that high minded speculation of how AI was going to change humanity forever in the 20th century. Would it transform us into machines? Wipe us out in divine judgement? Meet us as equals? Well, now the AI revolution is here... it helps third worlders produce low effort dopamine slop to farm engagement,

I actually prefer the Skynet ending.

The game was very expensive to make, but disappointed financially in Japan.
As a result, they slashed the budget for the localization so hard that they had to cut the game down. It probably didn't help either that the PS2 was almost out by the time of the western release.

For the sequels, they went back to cheaper and more straightforward games.
>>
AC3 is still the most ambitious game in the series
>>
>>724899657
For millenia, those in power couldn't live without those pesky peasants. They needed them for so many things. But gradually over time, they made it so they needed us less and less, starting all the way back when we domesticated livestock, and slowly escalating until we hit industrial revolution and went into overdrive with automatisation. We have automated physical labor, we have automated agriculture, we have automated factories, we have automated computing work, we have automated banking and service industry, and now we are automating thought and entertainment. We are close to the point where the only humans that are still needed are plumbers, because it's a surprisingly complex and multi-fauceted job. I will not apologize for the pun.

>>724900283

Too ambitious. They absolutely should have waited for the PS2. You knew they were already hard pressed trying to squeeze FMVs on 2 CDs and the gameplay suffered for it (5 minute missions suck.)

It's designed to carry two BIG FUCKING MISSILES. I'm pretty sure LSWM is the biggest player-usable weapon in the series, in both payload size and impact. It also has a microwave ball lightning generator (which would be a sick special weapon to have, kind of an anti-missile- you can't outmaneuver it, only outrun it, especially handy for Fenrir that's not particularly agile) and optical camo in the superweapon version. And three engines. And VTOL capabilities.

Just a bit after, both are set in strangereal 2020. They could give us Apalis at least, would've been fun to have an early game fictional plane again.

AI isn't AI that's the best thing, its a shareholder and investor new scam like what happened with crypto early days, its just a LLM and predicts with a terrible success rate the next word, it doesn't think, has no own decisions, is just a bunch of text randomized based on whatever you type, the bubble will explode at some point, it wont disappear but the "everything needs AI now" forced bullshit will relax a lot

That was technically more of a belly flop. Gleipnir had neither capability nor intention of getting out of that position, it already got critically damaged, so it pulled up trying to either fire the cannon at the city or stall itself into it as a last resort. Crux figured out that it'll fire the cannon and had Gryphus destroy it, but missed that it'll crash itself into the city regardless, and lucked out into best possible ending.
><<The controls are not responding!>>
was not because of damage, but because at that point Gleipnir has already stalled and turned into a thousand ton projectile that stalled itself into the river.
Meanwhile, X2's fortresses actually do the proper cobra and continue flying.

Don't engage them flying parallel? Unless they're flying straight at you, in which case JOUST
If you're having trouble engaging with an enemy, break off and engage someone else who is an easier target
If there are no other targets, disengage, wait for them to chase you, then re-engage
Hold the targeting button to track an opponent, but don't overuse it because you'll just end up crashing

It feels like I'm spending most of every mission turning. Looping around. I figure that's why he's called Mobius cuz he's always going in circles. I think I'm doing it all correctly, like rolling and slowing down and tilting up i just feel like I have very little control.

Are you using real plane controls? Or the """novice""" controls? Those make everything harder.
Ace Combat isn't a difficult game and every game plays the same, since the PS1.

If you feel like you're in a furball just accelerate straight, turn around and reapproach.

Don't care about housewife grade philosophy, love military sci-fi
>>
>>724904405

the biggest problem is that there's no score counter (outside one or two missions).
other than meeting ranking requirements, there's zero point in pursuing non-targets.
>>
>>724934007
You will spend a lot of missions doing that
Thing is, so will most of your enemies, so you have to learn to approach situations correctly and reapproach situations when they're stuck
If you and your enemy are flying in a big vertical wheel, try breaking off and coming at them horizontally
Also >>724934194, use the proper control scheme (Normal, not Easy)
The real lesson is that the AI in all AC games is very predictable so if you can figure out their patterns you can just blitz the whole series with little effort
>>
>>724901138
>They absolutely should have waited for the PS2.
The game wasn't possible on the PS2, PS1 graphics were cheap and you could justify the development time for a level biome that you would use ONCE. The increased complexity of PS2 assets meant that all 3 PS2 games combined still had less level design depth than 3.

Really weirdly though. RR has stuff like real world locations, sponsors that would be either impossible or in really bad taste in Strangereal, no real connections to anything besides the Nagases, etc.
AC7 does have a reference to Ridge Racer, but it's just a billboard with a car from a game that never got released.

Ace Combat 8 : Reflection
The 8 would have a line through it like it's made with a mirrored 3
You would play as two different pilots from different nations at war. showing you both sides of the conflict.

It's just a running gag that's gotten out of hand. It made sense back in the RRT4/AC2 era, since Strangereal wasn't properly a thing yet and a 'haha the Nagases are sisters because we made one model and used it 5 times" thing, but at this point it's just a sort of "haha trivia" thing. Especially since Ridge Racer has always been set in the real world (ostensibly), not just the recurring Ridge State and Type 4's locales but right up to RR7/PSP RR2, you still have the news ticker and company info talking about the USA, France, Japan, and so on.

Rule of thumb is RR supercedes everything else because it's always been a love letter to Namco's other franchises and obscure arcade games. What the hell is a Plid's, anyway?

1 is considered a disappointment by the devs because it was originally supposed to be a port of the first arcade game. If you're interested, play Air Combat and Air Combat 22 on an arcade emulator instead.
2 (which is unrelated to 22) is their first true Ace Combat console game, and is probably the best overall for pure arcade style gameplay.

This is factually incorrect. The only thing that happened was needing to pull in outside engineering help to get the game engines working properly (said by Project Aces at the CEDEC 2019 presentation), and the narrative being tweaked to emphasize the drones because they thought the original conspiracy angle would be too much of a copy of 5 (proven with the recorded voice lines).
