About to start the first one as in the proper one not the Untold games.
I don't have a ton of experience with dungeon crawlers but do want to get into the genre more, my main exposure so far has been the MegaTen games with dungeon crawling basically.

Should I just go for Expert?
>>
>>724892097
>Should I just go for Expert?
Yeah, it's really not that much a different experience.
>>
>>724892408
Nice. I just hope these games don't focus a lot on grind and you can be smart with how you play too since its one aspect I appreciate in MegaTen.
I know this is different but still basically I wish it has that trait.
>>
>>724892097
Expert is the actual difficulty of the game, there really isn't any reason to play on the lower difficulties. Have fun with EO, anon
>>
>>724892097
Expert in the HD port? It's the original DS difficulty. Funny, I got into dungeon crawling through SMT first, then EO, then Wizardry.
>>
>>724892607
You don't need to grind as long as you are full clearing floors and doing quests (don't remember if these even exist in the first one). If you are having trouble with bosses or FOEs you can grind but except the post game it is not needed.

Expert mode is the intended difficulty mode for the game, with Standard being a slight decrease to enemy numbers / increase to player numbers and Picnic being baby easy. As long as you make a good party Landy, Protector, Survivalist, Medic, and Alchemist you should be fine.

Oh cool didn't know.
Also great that you're here anon! I actually have a ROM for Wizardry VI for SFC but I am a bit intimidated to start it because I got a little overwhelmed with all the party composition options and I know Wizardry games are a bit hardcore. Do you have some recommendations?

play the OG on an emulator. shatlus fucked up both the reboot and release with added garbage.
OG 1-2-3 are peak EO. 2 is the hardest, 3 has the best content, 1 is the original. Yuzu knocked the OST out of the park.
Rest of the series is pretty meh ranging from joke games like EO4 and Untold 2 to "the fuck is this" in EO5 and nexus. The newer ones have trash generic orchestral OSTs with super power buffs for your characters. The OG trilogy has non of that crap.
>>
>>724893227
I usually emulate but personally didn't really research this specific entry and I am not a huge fan of DS/3DS emulation mainly cause of the screens.

What would you say is worse in the remaster specifically so that I know before its too late whether it is important enough for me to switch?
>>
>>724893227
I thought EO5 was fun though, 3 is still the best for me but 5 had some fun stuff in it

Haven't played it yet but I got the PC port from GOG the other day, still need to try it tho. Game is kind of ugly tho lmao

Holy shit I want to sniff and kiss his feet so hot, is he a portrait for one of the characters or an in game character?
>>
>>724892097
Hijacking rare EO thread to ask, as I'm starting EO5 :
My team is samurabbit and pugilist at the front, dragoon, alchemist and necro in the back, is that fine enough or do I need a healer? All brown girls btw

>>724894428
Necromancer can kinda heal

Personally I like taking a shaman healer just for funsies
>>
>>724894540
I'd probably rank it similarly but rank 2 much lower than the rest of the series. I don't know what they were smoking with that game.
>>
>>724894615
Maybe I'll grab a potato then, necromancer seems weird
>>
Get Troubadour and invest in HP/TP regen sources from it. Never bother with resources ever again.
Seriously, with the TP regen song running you can leave one mook from enemy pack alive and then just skip turns through Defend to replenish party's TP to full whenever you want.
>>
>>724894175
Are you sure that's a guy?
>>
Also, make a main party of 5 real adventurers and a separate party of 5 Survivalists (or whatever that class was called) speccing them into foraging/chopping/mining. The idea is that once your main group scouts the forage spots, unlocks the shortcuts to them you'll just switch to the forager group and beeline towards those spots whenever you need to gather something from it.
Don't spec into foraging on your main dudes - that's just wasting skill points and they are quite a luxury at the start.
>>
>>724893867
Petty good Wizardry in all but name
>>
>>724893867
Bullshit hard.
Fun though.
>>
EO5's 5th stratum is so fucking boring
>>
>>724894428
It's been a while since I played 5, but Dragoon is still probably better in the frontline, yeah? I know, they have guns, which are long range weapons, but they're also a 'tank' class that can take hits just fine, and one of the later specialisations has a cannon skill that's stronger from the front. And you'll probably want that specialisation route since the other one has a bunch of 'bunker' skills, with bunkers competing for the 'helper unit' slots with Necromancer's summons. Still, I suppose any formation *can* work if you want it to be a specific way. And healers are just a suggestion beyond EO1 Medic anyway.

Played this last month. You need protector, landknecht, survivalist, cleric, and troubador. Defender and immunize carry hard. Just use a seperate group for harvesting, it's not very important.
Don't increase antifire/cold/volt past 5.
The difficulty starts high and drops off after the first couple floors.
Conditional drops barely exist, the only one that is a problem is one that resists physical and has to be killed in 2 turns.

You have to follow this to beat the very last boss:
Antifire: 1, 6, 11, 16, 21, 26, 31, 36, 41, 46
Antivolt: 5, 9, 17, 29, 33, 45
Anticold: 7, 13, 19, 25, 37, 43, 49
(Boosted) Immunize: 1, 13, 21, 26, 33, 37, 46
bravery
Use bravery and regular immunize to make boss waste turns ONLY when it has a fixed fire/ice/volt on the following turn. The boss gimick is that it dispells you when you have 10 total buffs and then the turn after that will completely fuck you up. Boost immunize when boss is going to get multiple turns without a blockable spell, making sure bravery has been dispelled.

I don't know what they did in the remake but the original game has awful mapping compared to even the second game. There is no color for floors to indicate damage ones, there is only one icon for harvest points, there is no icon for the hidden pathways. You also can't strafe.
I don't know that they fixed any of this but it seems like obvious easy things that would have to have been changed.
>>
>>724893580
Having a screen for the map is so nice. Going back to play SMT2 on SNES after was painful. You can change screen layout so they are side by side, if that's your problem.

chocohunter I saw your posts years ago and fell for the EO2 meme and had fun
>>
>>724892097
the post game bosses are poorly designed and you need a troubadour and protector for them
the protector to block 3000 damage elemental aoes and the troubadour for the buff removal skill to counter the boss that reduces all damage to 1 while healing for 800 every turn. Troubadour also happens to counter the boss that spams a party wide panic and attack down followed by one of the aforementioned 3000 damage aoes.

>you can be smart with how you play too since its one aspect I appreciate in MegaTen
What? MegaTen has never had any kind of deep mechanical strategy. You fuse demons and steamroll shit. In some games you need to buff/debuff and in some games you get to exploit weaknesses.
What MegaTen games do you feel actually require deep strategy and/or real considerations to builds?

I had the same opinion, going from one large room with a sliding puzzle to the next isn't passionate labyrinthing, even the music is a snooze
the stratum boss fucks though. Unless you're just shooting zombie torpedoes at him

the way forward is inside the wyvern's nest
I got stuck looking around for like 5 hours before I found out that progression meant smashing your face into a wall right next to an FOE, EO1 has no visible wall marks for interactables/shortcuts outside of stratum 4 so have fun crab walking everywhere
>>
>>724901243
Most DRPGs dont, EO from 4 on is pretty casual by showing you "hidden" walls.
>>
>>724900832
That's an odd choice, I don't think I've ever heard anybody favoring those two stratums.

I love startum 5 - mad atmospheric, great FOEs, cool navigation. Number 4 was the lowpoint for me, where you don't get the isolation feeling, but there's also no plot, and no real interest to the enemies/boss, you're just waiting for what's at the top of the tree

Are we talking about the same game?
>>
>>724902047
you don't vibe with that music? that piano? the shift in pace?

The whole floor is just liquid Etrian - a forest, oldschool enemies with damage tuned high, the night sky, the nostalgic FOE action. Really felt like the end of a journey
>>
>>724903692
Feels like the start of EO, not the end
>>
>>724901243
Not sure what you are talking about, there is the 'press a' -> you can't go through this way message for all the passages. If you are using the correct team you can just kill FOEs by floor 3.
>>
>>724904890
Dude, did you play the game? He's not going to kill the wyvern is he? You're right about the prompt though, and when the game tells you to go there, plus lets you teleport out if you mess up, it's not the toughest thing to figure
>>
>>724905201
Ok I remember what the wyvern is now. It turns in place so you can walk right up to it and explore that whole room, and there is an exit on both sides. Don't you have to walk right up to it to get an egg before you are supposed to find a way past?
