Due to the way the game handles collision data with the spikes, using the level 4 sword (the Golden Sword) makes Mothula immune to almost every attack you can do with it. The only attacks you can do are sword beams and the little poke when holding a spin attack. This also applies to doing spin attacks with the level 3 sword (the tempered sword), and if you hit Mothula with the fire rod while it's over spikes, you won't do any damage to it

That's what it's for, yep. But if the Golden Sword did function properly, you would do more damage with it during this fight than the Fire Rod could ever do. The GBA version fixes this oversight and you can beat Mothula in 3 hits with the Golden Sword if you wanna postpone this dungeon until then.

I've never put it off that long, but I do usually do dungeon 4 before 2 and 3 so I can get the tempered sword early
Also, I've never, ever done that stupid block puzzle in dungeon 5 as I always do dungeon 6 first to get the staff

Helmasaur is pretty easy with bombs and can be rushed down with arrows in phase 2. Mothula is one of those fights that either dies in 7 seconds or you run out of magic and you hopefully brough a potion to refill it. Though the golden bee just kills it for you as well. If Blind didn’t have so many counter strats he’d be the hardest, but as is, either Mothula or Trinexx wins out. Ganon isn’t bad with a golden sword though fighting him with the regular master sword is very boring.

You're more likely to go to skull woods for the fire rod than randomly stumble upon the Bombos spell to use in Ice Palace. I bet most players don't even know it works on enemies only vunerable to the fire rod. Otherwise you're techically correct.
You need to beat both Misery Mire and Ice Palace to unlock the super bomb.

This boss and boss room was such a mess, it comes off like something an amateur dev would do to add challenge while giggling to himself - not that the actual fight is that hard, but gameplay wise it just comes off as tanking hits while rushing it down.
Zelda classic quests had many such cases.

It's the best Zelda format.
It feels open but still locks a few areas behind progression items. Some dungeons can be done out of order but do have scaling difficulty. Turtle Rock is harder than Palace of Darkness.
Something ALBW ruined because every dungeon has to be easy since you absolutely can do them out of order and only need the require item to solve all the puzzles.

The randomizer is very robust and allows a ton of customization. Shit like door insanity and putting items under pots and bushes.
I'm not good with Super Metroid sequence breaks so I don't like the combo randomizer.

Super Metroid feels more restrictive in rando anyway ("oh I didn't get morph ball or bombs? Guess I'll do nothing"), and has the occasional softlock here and there. Some randos fix up those softlocks, but I don't think the SMZ3 combo rando does.

Screw attack taking you down to green brinstar is a bit of a hassle but a PB start is fine even though routing with just 5 of them is a pain in the dick unless you have save stations modded to refill ammo.
