seems cool, I can see why people are complaining though I opened up the crafting menu and there's a bunch of shit about blacksmithing and all I can think is how long would I have to play where it would make sense to blacksmith stuff instead of driving somewhere to loot.

Why can't we just get a competent Zomboid competitor? Zed Zone still hasn't caught up despite the Indie Stone being lazy fucking idiots. HumanitZ tried to improve the combat but just made the zombies easier and less threatening, the permadeath thing is not even on by default so the gameplay is really forgiving, too forgiving. It's really just a PVP tuned game, which it excels at to it's own credit. CDDA is obviously a good ascii game, good simulations. But is not tuned to the live action combat aspect. Why has it taken so long and yet nothing has come to challenge the Indie Stone? surely it's gonna happen soon right? don't expect it on Zed Zone. You all thought it was the right one but it's a slow development game.

I made it a couple of years once and I did not make the game easier. In fact I turned the spawn rates of zombies pretty high. Never nullified infection in settings either. I found ways to remain entertained but it was kind of being creative in my head like making up my own stories and personal quests, that was playing solo because I prefer the game solo. It don't consider it a better with friends game.

I mean it's dumb having to imagine a story or an idea of what I'm playing but that's just what makes it appealing to me personally. Getting the NPCs would obviously create a real sort of dynamic story experience, but it still hasn't happened. Who knows if it will ever happen.

Apparently an OG Zomboid dev is working on Vein. So It could have potential, but the issues I've seen with it primarily is that the zombies aren't really able to pose a capable threat yet, they can use infection mechanics on a hit, which shows commitment to the idea, but their actual attacking and tracking kind of seems less as effective as Zomboid? I don't know how to describe it but it's not like you ever have to distance yourself from the zombies to take swings and it's not hard to win the fights, nor does it seem really that dangerous when you're around multiple of them. It doesn't look like there's much emphasis on how it's all about distancing in a fight. There isn't much emphasis on quickly you can get scratched or bitten. It seems like the issue I see most of the time with any zomboid competitor: lack of credible threats. Still it is early development, perhaps it could improve.

This game looks promising but really it depends on what direction they take it in. This is how 7 days to die started out. Maybe with AI assisted tools games will have more jump start potential like coding and artwork.

This is also how the dead linger started out and that game got abandoned but that game was super early alpha

It has to have mechanical depth, at least more than dayz and on par with zomboid and thats just the baseline to stand out. It needs to have cooking system with buffs, fishing, farming, lots to explore, decorations, high level loot with crafting.

An easy way to keep people engaged is skills and an MMO style leveling system.

Maybe they can add recipe or plans book that has high level loot and a skill tree that you need to get rare resources to get like NVG's or machine guns. Maybe a whole thing for ammo crafting.

Maybe unique decorations and rare items that you can only craft similar to fallout 76 that you have to find plans for to decorate your base only if you find the resources or rare items.

Maybe borrow systems from the long dark where you can place items in your base down or place items you find in the world as decorations..

Zomboid is a fun game that really excells in atmosphere and immersion. The combat is satisfying too.
Sadly, one-hit kills and permadeath are really annoying and I would greatly prefere if zombies were more exciting and varied to fight but they wouldn't one hit kill you and actually had to destroy your body for you to die.
