Yellow paint is an obvious and out of place thing. Yellow triangles in a Zelda dungeon just fits the theme, since the lock on puts yellow triangles over your target.

Mirror's Edge uses red paint for where you need to go but it both fits the artstyle and has an explanation, runners intuitively see paths highlighted in red to traverse. Obvious clues to help the player are fine, so long as they fit the artstyle.
