Why do so many developers fail at this one simple task?
>>
Game of the Year but sadly people don't want good games anymore

I think it being a roguelite that released at peak roguelite fatigue was the issue, it's an excellent mix of into the breach and cardslop.

I will say I wish they allowed workshop or made it into a full H-game

Me.
I'm sick to death of roguelites at this point.

I think a lot of these games could solve the design issue with an "unlock everything" button that lets you play it like an arcade game.
My issue with roguelites is how they drip feed you powerups so the game becomes easier as you play, I don't want that at all.

It's the opposite of how the difficulty curve should be, spelunky is the only one that gets it right IMO

For me it is the big tiddy ice girl.
And yes, StarVaders is easily the best deckbuilder roguelike in ages. In addition to the tactical grid being great I also really like the card Pack system that mixes a fixed amount of card sets to card pool per run prevents the card pool from feeling diluted with unlocks.

Releasing so close to Monster Train 2 probably did most damage. But fortunately the dev seems to be surprised the game ever did even this will and has been happy with it's success.

>>724941912
A dev post last week said that they are not planning any more content after the upcoming November update but mentioned mod support.

>>724942047
A lot of these games do that actually, including StarVaders. You can instantly unlock both all cards and all pilots in options.

unironically agree. I skipped this when it came out since it just looked like generic slop but fuck it's so good, glad I pirated it

Based slop genre

if you think this you're genuinely delusional

It is probably going to be in a long early access.

I remember playing the demo and not being that impressed. I got the gist of it, had some fun, but it didn't feel like the type of game I'd want to spend hours unlocking stuff in. Does the game improve with more unlocks or is is the same basic gameplay during the whole thing?
>>
>>724944037
I just clicked the unlock all button an enjoyed it.
>>
I get filtered by card games like Card Hunter or Cobalt Core where where you have movement cards alongside attack cards and you have to balance them in your deck, because being able to move is more important than anything in these.
>>
When will the roguelike card game trend die?
>>
>>724945379
Hopefully never.

I think you might be waiting a while

Card games weren't even popular before Slay the Spire. The obsession has to end soon.
>>
>>724946119
Card games were popular in the non-vidya arena since they were invented, they were just the first to change mediums

Unlocks provide newer synergies via packs and some of the ones they added are very fun.
It also doesnt have the issue of diluted pool because only 3 of the card packs are in each run and you know which.

For example there is a Beach pack centered around rng where there is a beachball that crashes into enemies every time it gets hit.

I chained 200 shots into it one time before the last boss fight was patched so items didnt transition between its phases.
Just saw this spinning deathball annihilate 5 entire phases of enemy waves back to back it even showing up spinning in the cutscenes. Funniest bug ive seen in a while, very fun strat even post patch.

When you make a smoother, cleaner approach to variety than cards or custom dice
>>
>>724948990
I'm waiting for worker placement roguelikes myself.
>>
>>724944256
It is not that hard in StarVaders since it does not really have defense cards tp worry about. Enemies hitting you just adds temporary junk cards in deck to bloat it for rest of the fight, and you lose the game if too many invaders reach the bottom screen.

I think this is the reason it isn't more popular despite being excellent.

I had it on my wishlist for a while after adding it on a Next Fest, but I'm still clearing my backlog...

I suppose Axes and Acres might count as one.
