The executives at game industry's c-suite have spoken.
Steam IS a monopoly.

That's like that video games lobby group that said shutting down games is good when Stop Killing Games was gaining too much traction.

Why should I care? All my games are on steam. I don't want more bloatware on my pc. I don't want to save extra downloaders or go to my email everytime I want to play a game. Steam is privately owned so it's less subject to the same garbage that nintendo sony etc are. Genuinely tell me why I should care.

Natural monopoly is impossible to avoid if you are so good at your services/goods.

However, the fallacy here is what these shitty jurnos imply in this articel - they are literally compare Steam to Amazon who would bully, threaten or outright buy and destroy small successfull sellers: https://ilsr.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/10/ILSR_PopEdforIndependentBusinessOwner.pdf

Everyone on this board knows this was never the case with Steam so why is this disingenuous discussion?
>>
>>724963157
"No one uses Epic or buys discs at Gamestop" does not make Steam a monopoly. Steam does not prevent games from being sold elsewhere. Steam has never paid for exclusivity from an outside publisher. There's lots of shit to criticize Steam for but the competition has no one to blame but themselves.
Amazon has a net value of roughly 2.6 Trillion dollars, Microsoft has 3.8 trillion, Valve has about 60 billion. We're talking about companies that are 50-100 times the size of Valve, companies that have direct access to hundreds of millions if not billions of existing users, and they can't offer a better service than Valve does. That's not a monopoly, that's incompetence.
>>
>>724963157
Steam should be a monopoly. Wouldn't want something like Epic being significant.
>>
>>724964067
> and they can't offer a better service
Wont. They wont because their usual service is to rip off people in every way possible. And you cant do this on the market where Valve and Steam is because people would look at that shit and say "nah fuck off" and stay better alternative. Alternative, these retards simply can't do in a financially viable way

im glad that reality is based on what people believe and not what is actually a fact.

>survey conducted by Rokky
>Rokky, a company whose main selling point is "Expand sales of your PC game beyond Steam. Sell game keys to 200+ global storefronts simultaneously with Rokky. Enjoy revenue increases of up to 100%." conducts a survey that results in a whitepaper that states that expanding your sales beyond Steam is beneficial for you.

Reminder that 3rd world EGS shills have been spamming this board for YEARS and mods still don't try to ban this obvious paid spam

they are idiots then

a monopoly means there is zero competition or choice.

there are tons of other places you can buy video games digitally.
thats like saying walmart is a monopoly, it isnt

Who the fuck cares what video game CEOs think or want? These are the people who want to turn the entire industry into live service gacha paywalls.

>>724964067
>That's not a monopoly, that's incompetence.
Also, this.

Epic has had nearly a decade to get their shit together. Rather than being competent at what they do and making a functional storefront, they've tried to buy their way into getting people onto their storefront. People don't use Steam because they prefer Valve over Epic Games. People use Steam because it's a better service than EGS.

Microsoft and Amazon are just pissed that they can't be the monopoly that everybody uses. They would very much like to make their games exclusive and force everybody onto their platform. The problem is that they lose so many sales in doing so, so they put the games on Steam instead.

>they still refuse because the upfront costs would be too disruptive to muh quarterlies

Tysm. Epic shills are genuinely retarded. I guess they don't realize that if a platform is desperate to get you to sell on their store exclusively it's probably not just to "benefit you"
>>
>>724965135
Mods even pointed out that most Epic store giveaway threads were posted using proxies.

Lmao, not sure if Valve directly pays shills or they just realized that they already have enough insanely vocal cult shills, but I remember when you guys were posting chinese gore videos on /v/ for days 0/24 when EGS was announced, claiming it was a chinese spyware software spying on you (using blatant lies to "prove it"), that Epic is majority owned by China (which is already incorrect but it was spread at the height of US's anti-china propaganda campaign), and all this shit also went viral on reddit, youtube, etc. If you even slightly appeared to be critical of Valve you instantly got a dozen (You)s labelling you a Chinese spy/shill. At the same time they were doing the most desperate mental gymnastics to justify how Valve deserves taking away 1/3 of PC gaming's revenue for running a webstore, pretending that Valve is "pro consumer" while literally leeching away 1/3 of the money the consumers pay for the production of their games.

It was fucking absurd watching this shit play out, never saw such a coordinated "negative shilling" campaign come so fucking out of nowhere. Amazon doesn't have an army like this, nor does any other monopoly-like entity defending it. Again, not sure of Valve secretly plays a role in manufacturing this (some ex-Valve employees did call out Gaben for being a manipulator who also bragged about successfully manipulating the press) or they just realized that they have an actual cult defending them and just enjoy spending the gaming industry's revenue on billion$ yacht armadas instead of just lowering their taxes on it, as these retards will straight up praise them for being leeches.

All of these companies complaining about Steam but none of them have the gaul to compete with it. And I don’t mean slapping on a storefront and calling it a day. Steam started out with a suite of PC games (L4D, HL, CS, TF). Companies need to actually make content instead of riding on their one memberberry game that’s littered with microtransactions and a battlepass.

kill yourself
jews could never provide such a pure service like steam
consumers are not stupid
the same game up on egs will not sell and only be bought by gamers when its on steam because steam provides better service and a better value overall than any competitor
the competitors either need to make something good or die
egs has tried for nearly more than a decade and STILL lack basic community store and functions
pathetic
