Warning! Autism review up ahead!

The good:

-The live-action intro movie is still godlike. Peak 90s cheese.
- Love how the game tells you when a key’s done and offers to toss it. Small QoL thing ahead of its time.
- dogs are well designed once you realize you can just walk past them. Late discovery tho lol!
- Inspecting items at the right angle changes their name and reveals new info. Awesome mechanic.
- corny writing (yes this was a good thing)

The bad:

- Tank controls… yeah even knowing what I was getting into, they still suck.
- “New Game” being default-highlighted evn when youve got save files? Bad UX even for the 90s
- Zombies having random HP (esp with the handgun) feels lame. Would’ve preferred consistent hit points. (My boy chris is not a marksman i guess)
- Snake fight was terrible due to documents implying there is antidote, the snake does poison you so i tried a lot of times to get no dmg from him (thought i would die to poison but rebecca patches you up anyway)
- Getting caught on corners constantly theres really no excuse for that even in 96
- There’s a weird room the MC refuses to enter: “No need to investigate that room.” huh idgi?
- hunters are just annoying. They get i-frames when circling around you, their leap hitboxes are jank but can be killed without getting hit even with the pistol if you shoot in a weird burst + pause at the right time

Verdict: I still don't get the puzzle involving the chemicals. 7 / 10

RE1 was the game that taught me that tank controls work perfectly fine. If you missed that lesson, I'd recommend trying again. Hint: Use the D-Pad, not the stick.

I never noticed any issue with hunters because the shotgun and magnum made them trivial. I didn't realize just how good the magnum was until the escape sequence, felt like a dunce for not experimenting earlier.
