Ok lads it's been out for 10 hours. What's your impresion of the game?
TOTAL C*STILIAN DEATH
Slammed the automation button for the Production tab. Fuck me if I'm going to deal with an entire Vicky autism minigame inside of a game that already has 50 things to micromanage.Other than that, it's fun. I like the new pop system though you spend so long in the early ages where interacting with Religion is mandatory, you can't go full "fuck the church" or "I am the church" for a long time.
I have no clue what I'm doing in this game

>>725000098>Anyways, how does eu5 compare in learning curveEU5 literally has Vickys entire market system baked in, alongside CK3s levies and dynasty stuff

>>724998164My only issues with EU5 right now are the markets being fucking unreasonable and impossible to figure out and the weather fucking me over with 0 visual indicator of anything being different

>>725000349Start with EU4 and once you understand that, play the MEIOU and Taxes mod. EU4 is probably the most immediately comprehensible Paradox game, imo. M&T is what directly inspired EU5.
>>724998164I've only played CK3 and HOI4, modded, never touched vanilla. What is this game like?
>>725000391I feel like mostly positive is miraculously high for a new paradox game.
>>725001378it was mixed a few hours ago
This game is so much more granular than EU IV which is cool but early game is pretty damn slow if you aren't a giga nigga nation.
>>725000396Not really unless I manage to induce it artificially.>>725001264There's no point in playing UE4 because I asked about UE5. I have always sort of hated the UI in these games. It's sort of database editor with flags instead of something more comprehensible. Plus UI elements and layouts have been awful in Paradox games.Thought if UE5 perhaps manages to make it better in this sense.

>>725000259Having multiple markets in my country makes me want to bang my head against a wall. >>724998164my biggest gripe is that the graphics regressed back to early 2000's levels. The UI reminds me of the pre-4 games or shitty mobile knockoff games while the character portraits look worse than ck2's
I haven't watched or looked at anything about the game before hand. It looks like mixture of eu3 and ck2/3. Kinda pleasantly suprised. It isn't eu4 click button and things happen style. Rather eu3 adjust things, click things and slowly things change. Also seems more complex. Probably fun. I will get to it eventually

>>725004425It seems every Paradox games must have pops these days. They even put pops in Stellaris and it fucked up the game big time.
>>725004561Yes there are jews, unsure yet if you can kill.
>>725004595>They even put pops in Stellaris and it fucked up the game big time.stellaris had pops from day 1 they were just tokens you put on the tiles of planets. later when they got rid of the tile system for planets pops stuck around but assigned to jobs in a menu instead. the most recent rework just added a few 0s to them for the UI (4000 pops is more like 4 in the old system) and consolidated their decision making to reduce lag.but stellaris always had population/pops as a tangible resource in the game
>>725004345Yes, I've already read the tutorial, that's why I said I just learned. Thank you spud, just having fun on my first blind run. Don't know why you're fingerwagging like a killjoy. I'm most likely better than you anyways.

>>724998164So does the black death just brings the game to a halt for 50 or so years?
>>725004726Yeah but stellaris is a boring shitty game
>>725004595Imperator pops were good until they aborted the game about 6 months before it would have been fixed
Oh fuck this is way more complicated than EU4
>>725004884>Yeah but stellaris is a boring shitty gameI mean you can say that about any paradox game. compared to CK3, Victoria 3, and EU4 I think Stellaris is probably the most fun game in active development. My favorite is probably Age of Wonders 4 but thats only published by Paradox, they're not the actual devs. Heavily modded EU4 with shit like Anbennar is fun but I'm not gonna give credit to Paradox for other people's work.
>>724998164The AI DOES FUCKING NOTHING

>>725005127A little
>>724998587t. Anglo who got btfo'ed on the continent and resorted to "civilising" browns to cope>>725000098Vic3 isn't that hard. You want to pass laws that allow free trade as much as possible so that you don't even really need to bother about your economy as the private investment pool will do the job.Don't be scared to go on deficit early on and build construction centres to kick-start your economyMake a lot of trade centres and focus on a few goods that your country can focus en masse (like wood in Russia) and export like crazyPass investment rights treaties with smaller countries so that your private investment pool can build profitable buildings in their countries Rebellions will happen. Just have an army ready when it does, but try to keep your government legitimate by changing who's in power to avoid themThe army is literally one click. Raise your troops (build barracks first) and assign them to the front line, then just watch
>>725005038>I though in 3.0 you didn't really have pops, it was just buildings that made resources.no, 3.0 still had pops and each pop's genetic traits, political faction, and social strata were individually tracked; this is what led to lag lategame since the entire galaxy was full of high-population planets running calculations on job priority and strata promotion/demotion every month, the joke was you'd blow up everybody's planets with world crackers to reduce the number of pops in the galaxy and reduce lag. now in 4.0 pops are in groups of 100 with the numbers added and they contribute to a pool of labor for jobs instead of each specifically having a job. In 3.0, if you built a Lab on a planet it would add exactly 2 scientist jobs and 2 pops would need to either promote or demote to work as Specialists for it assuming you didn't have open specialists already. In 4.0 system building science districts will give you like 400 manpower's worth of science jobs and pops can fill the manpower. Unfortunately the other big source of lag is fleet pathfinding and movement and thats even worse in 4.0 if anything, thousands of ships in large galaxies makes performance chug, I wish they'd make all ships like 10x as expensive and just boost their fleet power to compensate, thats basically what the star trek spinoff did
I don't really have any lag? My computer was mid when I bought it 7 years ago.
It's fun to be a republic and just building trade offices everywhere and dominate the markets. I recommend hansearic league for a fully market autism playthrough.

Is it actually good? I have not followed EU5 at all since my faith in Paradox is below 0
>>725005957It is good but there is quite lot of bugs and the AI is just dumb,
>>725005821It's not even a game. You're just doing your taxes, and watching number fluxuate. There is no satisfaction, unlike EU4, where every move felt like you were doing something.
>>725005750>Is it worth redownloading or will I just get bored with the game after hitting space UN again?IDK when you last quit, but there were several new Crisis options added to the game with the last couple expansions that have gone a good way to forcing the game to end once you get to lategame. The new Psionic shit and shroud stuff is worth at least one playthrough messing with as well. If you have the typical issue of getting bored once the galaxy is established and most space is occupied, I would suggest cranking up the crisis modifiers for midgame and endgame crises, then toggling all crises active instead of rolling for one. Then you can set the dates for midgame/endgame earlier as well so they trigger sooner after exploration phase ends, this will keep you busy and not just slowly map painting or blobbing via diplomacy untilyou get bored. also for the love of god dont pay for any of the fucking dlc, it's incredibly easy to pirate if you own the actual base game so just do that. Thats honestly the only way I'd recommend playing any paradox game, get the base game on steam and then just pirate all the DLC.

>>725006061I guess my main issue is the game just feels way too ADHD with how big the empires get and if you aren't turbo expanding from day 1 you'll run have literally 2 or 3 giga nigga neighbors who take up literally the whole map. It just feels distinctly unfair and too fast to be fun. Even with all the stuff turned to 11 to try and slow the game down the only one which has any impact is upping research costs but that doesn't change the autistic survey->build outpost gameplay loop being the only thing to do if you don't have more planets or archeology to explore. Are there any mods which address this? I really want to enjoy stellaris because space is cool but as I said it just feels way too arcadey and gamey
>>725006196It's not really globalism if you paint it of the correct red color.

>>725006354>you'll run have literally 2 or 3 giga nigga neighbors who take up literally the whole map. It just feels distinctly unfair and too fast to be funif this is happening you might have Advanced AI Empires enabled. basically if that setting is turned on there will be a couple AI empires with a significant head start instead of everybody making it to space at the same time. otherwise it might just be genocidals like devouring swarm or purifiers snowballing early but they're still constrained by resources early game a lot (especially since they can't abuse diplomacy for migration pacts and vassals)>Are there any mods which address this? I really want to enjoy stellaris because space is cool but as I said it just feels way too arcadey and gameyyou could try some of the stuff in gigastructures if you want more depth to the tech trees and being able to build tall easier but fair warning a lot of that shit is incredibly imbalanced, at least its modular and you can turn everything on or off at the start of the game

The character model is okay, the Tilmatli should really be tied around the shoulder though and worn draped over the shoulder/sides rather then front to back. Game is really great. There was almost nothing to do besides war in EU4, this gives a lot of stuff to do in peace time.
Why is the UI so brown and lacking in soul?
>>725006945I started my first game as France. 3000 hours in EU4 but no idea what I'm doing here. Automated buildings, RGOs, and trade completely at first. I unautomated buildings after a while just to save up money spam Armories and other military buildings, I haven't tried actually making money yet.HYW was super easy, it's like EU4 where you have more troops and the war is on your land so England just loses. First war I took his northern two locations and money. Second war I'd gotten cores somehow, declared for cores, ate all of Aquitaine. That meant England was kicked off the continent. Then I slowly integrated some vassals, and the situation was over. Took about 10 years in total, it ended as the Black Death was happening. The Black Death killed half my fucking pops, way worse than I expected. After that I mostly gobbled up more vassals and ate franche-comte when I got a random claim throne CB (couldn't claim throne because of a bug but I didn't want to anyway, PUs are shit)1390 now, just finished an opportunistic war with Aragon and Navarre for some border locations. Standing army is about 3k regulars, half are handgooners, I only made 3 stacks of arty but I think building a lot more would help with sieges. Handgooners seem not that great, morale damage seems not that useful unlike EU4 with the early morale metaApparently I have 10 hours in the game already.Anyway I'd say yeah France seems pretty easymode. I'm just bumbling around doing stuff wrong but nobody can seriously threaten me. The vassal swarm makes it retard proof. Normandy had about half as many troops as England by itself and more war participation in the first war than me. I guess if you want to beat France as England you have to peel the subjects away somehow. That's how it went in real life i guess.
For me, it's playing as Eastern Roman Empire since EU2

It'd be a tiny change but maybe if your population was small enough you could check. Characters can die in battles or sieges, but it's not directly tied to a pop I think. I saw on a stream someone's fleet sunk in the middle of the ocean but the admiral character survived, must've swam back home.

And the fleet combat itself is even worse. So you play a shallow clicker to increase fleet-power only to A-click your doomstack, or you lose because you don’t have enough fleet-power for the end-game crisis. After 8 years of boring fleet bashing they only now realize the core fleet/ship system — the thing the whole game revolves around — is the biggest issue, after already butchering a perfectly fine planet/economy system. They should just accept reality and add a supply system to break the endless fleet-power growth loop. The second you can’t infinitely scale fleets the game collapses, which forces a real redesign: economy, pops, tech — everything.Maybe then we’d finally get a game that isn’t just a military-industrial-complex simulator.

Scotland has such a hard fucking start compared to EU4>start in Civil War>Regency where your ruler is underage AND evacuated to another country>lands are super underdeveloped and your capital isn't even a town, so you need to upgrade it and build a building then fully staff it to even start producing ANY Manpower>trying to fight without a real army is going to decimate your pops and set you back even further>England will attack you before 1400 if the Hundred Years War is going well for them (just about the only aggressive AI I've seen so far)
>>725020920problem?
>>725020306ck3 rather gets worse with dlcs lately as paradox can't balance for shit
>>725020939It told me "Hard start"It didn't say "William Wallace being tortured at the end of Braveheart Hard"Though I guess the difficulty is fun once I learn the systems well enough
>>725021036Maybe now you understand why they pulled the red wedding in the 1440's to get rid of their enemies.

>>725021532>Empress Lü Zhi then had Concubine Qi killed in an inhumane manner: she had Qi's hands and feet chopped off, eyes gouged out, ears burned, nose sliced off, tongue cut out, forced her to drink a potion that made her mute, and had her thrown into a latrine. She called Qi a "human swine" (人彘). Several days later, Emperor Hui was taken to view the "human swine" and was shocked to learn that it was Concubine Qi. He cried loudly and became ill for a long time. He requested to see his mother and said, "This is something done not by a human. As the empress dowager's son, I'll never be able to rule the empire." From then on, Emperor Hui indulged himself in carnal pleasures and ignored state affairs, leaving all of them to his mother, and this caused power to fall completely into her hands.

It took me an hour to figure out as novogrod wtf was going on with regency. What an odd mechanic. You basically appoint a foreign prince and then your a lesser partner. When he dies you then invite another prince. I see you can change to a different Republic type either an oligarchic republic or doge republic but idk what one is better
So what do you actually "do" in this game?
>>725022865you distract yourself from the horrors of reality
>>725022865if you are an autist (compliment): you larp your nation building, make nice borders, maybe a formable, make loads pf money, have funif you are an autist (derogatory) you blob like a complete nigger, minmax everything and border gore the map until you conquer the worldif you are a failed normalfag: you play MP (it probably doesn't works)
