I bought a Steam controller when they were basically giving them away for $5 to get rid of stock like 5 years ago and wish I didn't because it's basically unplayable. It's really bad for controller games and worse for M+KB games than M+KB , so I have no reason to use it for basically anything. I can't imagine how they would fix this in a new revision.

It is an objective fact that Valve is currently working on a Half-Life game.
>>
>>725452618
They might be scared of associating it with VR too much so people don't get the impression that it's VR only and get mad like what happened with Alyx.

When will people learn that titles and franchises mean less than the people making the games? The devs and culture behind HL2 are gone. Not saying HL3 will be bad, just to not get hyped before we see the actual game.
>>
>Forza team was hired for future Valve project
Valve literally hiring teams just for something as simple as the suspension system of Gordons buggy.
>>
>>725458950
It's not like the old days, you need to power through not selling until you start selling. Everything's hyper competitive now, you need to prove your shit is worth buying. Valve can afford to lose money, so they just keep making stuff, and it's slowly working. The Steam Deck's sales improve year on year.
>>
>>725460549
When wasn't Valve last working on a Half-Life game?
>>
Valve will only 100% greenlight a game if the idea for it is good enough to be totally committed to. There are so many scrapped Valve games that just weren't good enough, fun enough or had the engagement of enough people to be released.

I bought one on release and it's been my main controller. It's decent if you take the time to configure your games. The biggest issues are the lack of D-pad and the build quality, so a new revision based on the Steam Deck would solve everything.

Even if HL3 gets announced, a linear shooter game won't be anything special with all the games out today. Fanboys will try to hype it up but it will be forgotten in a few years max. Valve prides itself on releasing new innovative games and that's something HL3 can't really be.

Materials can now be dipped in certain liquids and gain properties from dipping or not being dipped in certain things. For example, gasoline.

the moss thing he said he wanted to do was meant for if you backtracked to earlier maps somehow

Going by insiders, Half-Life 3 might not get announced until sometime next year.

I really hope they kill loading screens for level transitions for HLX
>>
>>725468858
So HLX has procedural generation. I don't know what is procedurally generated, I'm sure some nerd will dig up the datamined code to figure that out. But I also know the game has elements of open area gameplay. Each chapter of the game will be more open to explore around giving you a variety of choices on where to go instead of set paths to follow. You end up at the same place but you get there in different ways. I think the transitions will be more seamless.
>>
>>725468858
>level transitions
It's semi-open world, there won't be any loading screens or levels.

For the procedural generation stuff it'll either be what you said or just some stuff used in development to generate land and maybe some misc. objectives on the side. Probably just a more advanced version of Left 4 Dead's director.

I trust datamines from Valves works itself. I do not trust """insiders""" who say they know shit. If you watched the Tyler and Gabe Follower videos, you'll know they have have no concrete proof the """insiders""" are genuine Valve employees.
In fact, Valve employees spilling the beans on a simple forum is more common than a Valve employee secretly anonymously emailing some guy on YouTube.

i am convinced some of you wouldn't believe HL3 existed even if it was literally in your steam library

>Half-Life: Alyx's ending was a teaser for HL3
>Valve's all but stated in employee interviews and in the dev docs that they're working on a new Half-Life game
>Gabe at the end of the HL2 20th doc: I think Half-Life represents a tool we have and promises made to customers to capitalize on innovation and opportunities to build game experiences that haven't been involved previously, and I think there are no shortage of those opportunities facing us as an industry right now.
>Mike Shapiro, G-Man's voice actor, teased on his Twitter that something Half-Life related would happen in 2025
>Mike Morasky, Valve's primary composer, accidentally let it slip in a 2023 interview that he's worked on two Half-Life games (Alyx was the only public Half-Life game he worked on) (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=92w2633MCPI&t=1942s)
>we've been consistently getting strings in other Source 2 games for a game codenamed HLX for 5 years now, akin to how we got HLVR strings from 2016 until Alyx's reveal, and we've gotten more strings for HLX and its related features than any Valve game up to this point
>Valve's been hiring a bunch of devs since 2021, most of them skilled senior devs with years of industry experience
>leaks and datamines have revealed that Valve's working on a trifecta of hardware also predicted to come out soon - Deckard/Steam Frame, a standalone VR headset (with new controllers codenamed Roy), Triton, a new Steam Controller (basically a Deck without the screen), and Fremont, a new Steam Machine (which admittedly is the least likely to come out soon)
>Valve conspicuously moved their Autumn Sale from November to September/October this year, with this message:

>November is a common month for Valve releases and announcements

I don't think you understand how Valve functions. They had a L4D project going until the very last second of pre-production when they couldn't get a consensus of choosing Source 2 or Unreal 4 by the team. This wouldn't happen with actual leadership, but since Valve relies heavily on a "flat management" system they decided to shelve it. And this is why we get snippets of "work" over the years, usually done by one person who is interested while everyone else isn't. Eventually they get fired for not working on other stuff people want to do.

Its a competitive hero shooter that started development coincidentally right when they abandoned TF2 in 2018 because turning it into a hyper-competitive e-sport failed. id imagine its entirely a budget constraint. finger tracking from headset cameras is infinitely cheaper and is updateable over time whereas valve's controllers are dated hardware from the day of release
see picrel and compare it to the cost of a quest 3 (400 bucks on amazon)
if you were Mark Zuckerberg and had to decide between a 600 dollar headset with fixed contollers or a 400 dollar headset with updateable handtracking that will gather more sales because its cheaper, which one would you pick?

According, to Tyler, Steam Deck 2 is ARM-based from AMD, according to insiders like Kepler_L2 and Adroc_Thurston, it'll use UDNA. Kepler and Adroc never point out the CPU of the Deck 2 while Tyler never point out the GPU of Deck 2. To me, this tells me that both go hand and hand. The Deck 2 is probably using some kind of AMD Sound Wave successor with far more compute units and using UDNA instead of RDNA 3.5+. This also explains the 2028 release date.

>>
>>725482826
They currently have one in development called the Sound Wave, but it currently only uses 4 compute units of RDNA 3.5+, which wouldn't be viable for a Deck 2 despite being on a 3nm node. If we follow AMD timeline, UNDA is coming in 2027, so that would mean they'll release a Sound Wave successor that's more for gaming handhelds by 2028, perfect time for a Steam Deck 2.

If not, bummer, I'd like a better setup that doesn't involve piping Steam Link through monado and gamescope to have a VR display for playing vidya on via my Steam Deck (Even if I'm not totally opposed to using my Steam Deck as a remote operator for actually running game, it's just that CURRENTLY it doesn't work great because you were probably never intended to use Steam Link the way I'm using it.

EXTREMELY reliable.

The guy actually has connections with people in the know in China and other supplylines.
He doesn't just leak Valve hardware too and he has never mentioned any date about Valve stuff. This is the first time he's ever talked about a date about Deckard.

Their company is in a never-ending era of the "Universe 25" experiment. They could sit around and do nothing, making 600k/year each (on the low end) and be happy; pushing out little updates every now and then, but they're at least trying to do something. I rather them try weird experiments and fail over and over then just give up and print money. I would say they're an astounding success, people here just have a hate boner for Valve despite no lifeing their steam every day. They won

I'm not done looking through it yet, I have to yet to get through the asset strings, but there are a lot more optimization strings here, most notably in libparticles_strings.txt, where's also more unique strings about fans and the liquid oil/water spill system seen before. There's also a lot more choreo system strings in libscenefilecache_strings.txt and libscenesystem_strings.txt. I'll post if I see anything else more interesting for the layman.

>>

why not? there is always a first time for everything, fill the direct with tf2 mvm update stuff and call it a day.
But honestly and most realistic scenario, they just shadowdrop everything as trailers on their youtube channel and remain radio silent until release.

Because that's not how Valve operates. They don't have a fixed schedule. They either shadowdrop or they announce ONE big thing. Never several smaller things.

I can assure you right now the only thing I'll bitch about when/if HL3 comes out is if they don't give people that actually make shit SDK tools, and it ends up like HL2 getting workshop support and all that was added model swaps, Krystal, and a few already existing memes like the Gman go fuck yourself thing.
>>
>>725495256
Dota 2 is not fun.
Deadlock is fun, but not casual enough for people like me. I like L4D, because games usually last only 10 minutes or so. Deadlock expects you to play for half an hour or more.

I was here for TORtanic. After that /v/ always complained about everything trying to reach that high again. Even if the games were good...
>>
>>725495356
I can't say it'll lead to this for certain, but the datamined strings as of late indicate Valve's been doing a lot of tool and engine framework development recently. That doesn't mean an SDK will come out, but signs are positive towards them getting the engine ready for an SDK release.
>>
>>725463625
The actual reason why it will be easily forgotten is that modding a game has become too complicated. HL1 became a massive hit because of its mods, HL2's mods were already a joke in comparison and really only the mainline source engine games carried the legacy. There is no way HL3 mods will cause a golden age of modding again, that time is over, everything has become too fucking complicated.

I guess let me elaborate for people that don't make shit.
>SDK
Means software to make shit for Source 2 games.
Not a barebones version of the engine itself to fuck around with and develop entirely standalone software like a Source 2 Base SDK.
Not that I wouldn't want that, but to be clear, I just want mapping tools.
>>
>>725477771
>"Gamers" dont want 12v12 casual clusterfucks anymore.
They don't think people do and haven't made them in ages, which means there's an untapped market for that now.
I prefer 16v16 btw

I don't remember who said it but 5v5 competitive shooters are shit when people are allowed to play on overcrowded servers that run some shitty community-made maps (cp_orange for tf2, killbox for hl2dm, etc) with a couple of Russians micspaming music through their microphones
>>
>>725495034
>Considered a new chapter in gaming innovation
That's the one thing I don't see happening. Valve have legitimately struggled to know what to do for HL3 which isn't just "the past game but better graphics".
>>
>>725493451
ga la lung
>>
Someone make a new thread we got some new code in dota
>>
>>725496425
Honestly one of the major things that's got me worried that HL3 won't be good is their preoccupation with desperately trying to do something "innovative" for the "sake" of it.
Having priorities centered around doing something arbitrarily "innovative" is directly running into the issue that the entire fucking industry is allergic to actually making fun games.
>>
>>725496663
I just want a good base for Source 2 mods so we can have all the good shit again like CS, Day of Defeat, Etc.
>>
>>725489032
maybe if it was another console with its own ecosystem, but no. Its another pc that's attached to an existing ecosystem with over 160 million users.

Which is why asus and chinkheld manufacturers can easily spit out 10 different versions of their handheld pcs and still churn out a profit at like 10,000 sales. valve only needed 30 core engineers for their steamdeck team, whereas nintendo needed ten times while needing to build a new ecosystem and software.
>>
>>725496663
When Valve's talking innovation, they always mean gameplay innovation.
>>
>>725496663
Relax bro they are one of the smartest devs in the industry, they asked themselves and analysed all the questions and doubts you might generate in your head and then 100 more that you can't even comprehend. I worked with a world class team on a certain product - it is magic if all the right people are in the room
>>
>>725452305

>b-but deadlock is nothing like TF-
Deadlock is nothing like TF2. There I finished the sentence for you.

Hell Deadlock even feels like the antithesis of TF2. TF2 originally was designed to be accessible to new players, be a casual fun game you could drop in and out of. And perhaps most importantly had efforts go into to NOT be a visual mess and had an entire commentary section going into the efforts that (originally) went into good visual clarity.

Was TF2 perfect? Hell no, there are fucking problems with it. Some that actually got fixed in Deadlock. Which is why it's infuriating that Valve would care to fix these problems but then spend the effort on something like Deadlock.

Hell even the idea of the 12v12 being too much of a clusterfuck is laughable. Deadlock manages to feel like an even bigger clusterfuck with half the players.
>>
>>725452305
>rumors surrounding HL3 suggest particle-simulation models and real 'weight' to everything in the world
>minimal hud and open world
>sections to the game, variable physics depending on the environment affecting the puzzles

They're swinging for the fences on this one, really going out with a bang, this is probably going to be the last main HL game not counting potential spin-offs. They're pushing Source 2 to it's limit. The engine is a lot more stream-lined and efficient so it should be interesting to see what they come up with. There's a high chance of a reveal in the next 2 months unironcially, but I really won't believe it until I see it. I do think a simple "Half-Life 3 Official Trailer" on Valve's youtube page will rack 50 million views. It will be a spectacle and temporary break the internet. Even normies will jump in on the meme knowing barely anything about the series despite having a steam.

valve is only interested in VR as stepping stone towards BCIs
the steam deck on the other hand was meant to be a dry run for steamos as a ecosystem for when they launch the fremont
>>
A shift from Windows to Linux, making their own OS for gaming, switching from x86 to ARM64, making their own gaming hardware, Proton, Proton for ARM.
>Steam Deck
>SteamOS
>Steam Frame being ARM-based
>Steam Frame sharing tech with Steam Deck 2
>Steam Deck 2 being ARM-based as well but AMD
>possible culmination to a Steam home console
Putting all of this together, what is Valve's plans against Microsoft when it comes to PC gaming? Did Valve predict what both Microsoft and Sony were going to do eventually with PC gaming and are shifting away from their directions?
