Star_'s fanbase were pretty happy with what he pivoted to with the Basically videos. It was just a tiny minority pestering him about making more TF2 videos. Instead of saying "I probably won't be making many more of those, sorry. If I'm not making what you want anymore, go ahead and unsubscribe."
He acted like anything he made was entitled to 100% of the viewership his TF2 videos were getting.

He cultivated a TF2 based audience, pivoted pretty successfully, keeping a sizable chunk of that viewer base, and didn't stick with it long enough to let a new audience find his new content to make up for the portion of the audience that left. For some reason, that temporary 10-15% viewership drop made him totally give up on his high effort content entirely and turn to streaming Overwatch, with none of the energy, humor or polish he put into his TF2 content. He wallowed in middling relevancy for a while (Fun Fact: Ronnie from Whomp! was there as a parasocial clinger-on, by the way.)

I'm the polar opposite. I first heard of Star over a decade ago from a friend who shared one of his TF2 videos. Wouldn't hear or know anything about Jerma until the first Jerma is made and even though I'm pretty certain I've only seen one video he's ever made. Hell everything I know about Jerma is through Star's videos.

I found Jerma through Shibby2142, thought he was a dork, and ignored him. Then the Youtube Algorithm recommended STAR_ and I enjoyed his "I'm good at the game, but I'm not trying too hard to win" style. Then Ruiner of Fun came out and showed a better side of Jerma than the generic, boring Youtube slop act he had been putting on.

I found out about Jerma around 2023 or something. Saw some compilation video on youtube and found him unfunny and weird. But for some reason I watched a longplay edit of his and I got hooked.
The guy is just hilarious to me now. I'm watching his stream archives from bottom up and I swear I laughed to tears like never before on some of those. Also he played hundreds of interesting games, old games, japanese games, weird games. Many games I knew/heard of but never actually played, and more. Really cool.
Highly recommend him. Though I never saw his "chat" or read any of the drama ITT. I really don't give a shit about that.
