In any other of the Prime games the writers on those games would almost exclusively be writing scenarios and flavor text shit you read when scanning but the egos of these new millenial californian writers are so big that that's not good enough for them. I've been saying this for years and will continue to say it. Metroid Prime was a mistake and has been nothing but a detriment to the Metroid franchise. Not one of the Prime games has ever been more than "just OK" after you got over the visual spectacle (which is all the Prime games were really good at, showcasing the "power" of the hardware they are on). They have their moments, but "moments" are all they really have going for them. That and admittedly decent/good OSTs for the most part.

There was already a bit of storyfag stuff in Super Metroid. It starts with a cinematic cutscene, reminding you that in the last game a baby Metroid imprinted Samus as its parent, similar to what bird chicks do. At the end, said baby Metroid returns as a fully grown giga-troid, and it gives its life to save Mama Samus from the Mother Brain. If this happened today, you'd all be calling it a tear-jerking Reddit moment.
