Does modern video game culture make you feel old?
No.
>>725920194yes
>>725920194Stop feeling sorry for yourself and start creating.
>>725920194I dont care about "modern video game culture" beyond the people I interact with.... so no?
>>725920749>so no?So sassy. I bet you thought you did something there.
>>725920194What do you mean exactly, faggots simping for some twitch clowns? Yeah, those freaks giving money to them is completely alien to me.
>>725920869gacha, vtubers, streaming in general
>>725920828No?If me being unsure about where I stand with "modern" video game culture makes you feel insecure or whatever, that's your problem, not mine.
publishers still chase the current fad>soulsfaggot-like>extraction/friend slopdifference is at least they put effort into their games in past, if they didn't have the big money for tech the compensated with better gameplay, writing or art styleall I see are carbon copies now
>>725920992>No?See you did it again. Its how you wrote it anon. Its the sarcasm that is funny to me.
>>725920943I'm with you there. It's not only weird, but repulsive to see people opening their wallets to gacha online casinos that masquerade as video games. How the fuck are people so attracted to JPGs that they shell out hefty sums on that stuff?
No, but it does make me feel alienated. I can't even remember the last time I bought an AAA game with my own money. I might've been Mankind Divided, which I felt half apathetic about. It's a great game as long as you ignore the shit pacing, bland characters and unsatisfying plot which isn't exactly high praise. Despite that I still had a good time with the game, but its flaws made me think a lot about the original Deus Ex.Deus Ex was in pre-production long enough to rival a modern game, except it was made during a time where games actually came out, and while it took a long-ass time it eventually did actually come out. Turns out all that pre-production matters little when it just isn't fun and/or feasible, and the devs threw out a fuckton of content so they could release an actually great game. That's how most great game development stories go, really - they got a bunch of white (or Asian) pastry nerds into a garage to write a document about what they wanted to make, then threw most of it out when it didn't work and eventually stumbled upon a fun and innovative game by trial and error. It feels like modern AAA games always come out as first drafts now, in that sense. They didn't actually have the time to throw out shit that isn't fun or doesn't work, the cool ideas had to get left on the cutting room floor, levels didn't get a second pass, the script was rushed and is full of plot holes and bland characters. There was no time or money to experiment cause the game has to be out by Christmas. That's all well and good if you're churning out Generic Sequel #33 à la Fifa or Madden, but if you want to make a new IP or are trying to bring back an old IP with a shit rep it's gonna flop and burn.Lots of people are apparently fine with the way things are, considering millions of people still bought a PS5 despite having a shortage of interesting exclusives. Me, I'm playing a lot more old games now. Enough of them to keep me going until the inevitable crash.
>>725921084Sounds more like you are irony-poisoned and losing your shit over a question mark. How long have you been browsing without a break?Or interacted with someone who WASN'T a channer?
>>725921571What? You are reading too much into this lol. im just saying your posts are funny.
>>725920194>Bro you got discord???>No I'm over 12>Bro just make a discord>Make discord>These kids just sit around not talking on discord for hours >Eating food>Watching TikToks>Not actually playing games>This is gay I'm outI don't feel old I feel like kids who grew up with the internet 24/7 are retarded rot brained homosexuals
>>725921641>reading into it too much>>725920828>>725921084???You made multiple posts freaking out over some imaginary tone that never existed.Let me ask you again, when was the last time you meaningfully interacted with someone outside of this place?
>>725920194>modern video game culturewhat even is it now? "minecraft youtubers" were like 2015 so what have people been doing? meme-physics friendslop?
>>725920943The popularization of vtubers killed streaming culture.
>>725921789I was trying to make banter and jokes with you why are you so upset :( im sorry anon
>>725921521the future might be happening too fast for deus ex to be prescient about
>>725921998It's so weird how fast the future goes nowadays. The past five years feel like a lifetime that went by in a flash. Is that just me?
>>725921912Well no, you were trying to start some shit and now that it didn't go your way you are backpedaling and getting worked up.Why do my questions cause this turmoil? What is so hard about giving a simple time frame?I am not asking who you interacted meaningfully with.I am not asking how you interacted with them either. And yet you are getting all worked up trying to avoid talking about it.Its simple banter, bro. Why so scared?Do you think people here honestly care that much beyond mild curiosity? Is *this* the "modern gaming culture" OP mentioned?Irony-poisoned people trying to start fights over imaginary tones and backing off when someone takes a genuine interest? If you need time to answer don't worry about it bro.I am streaming Baki (for free) with a friend who hasn't seen it. So its not like you are anything beyond side monitor content for me.
Back in my day we used to put effort in our games which push the boundaries of narrative, design, graphics etc... Now we're getting low effort slop from stolen assets from stores. I'm glad I grew up in the golden age of 3D games not this crap.
>>725922220Your fucking wierd bro but go off lol
>>725920194Nope, I've always felt completely alienated. I'm surrounded by old boomers who never understood anything I ever said, and I'm a millennial. The one time it wasn't like that was when I had an IT job, but my peers didn't like me much.
>>725922615>still afraid of answeringWhy does being genuine terrify you?
>>725922632>but my peers didn't like me much.Same. It's only at first that I'm likeable, then everyone figures out that I'm not the most social type. That's the biggest detriment to having a successful career. I thought the IT field would be exempt from office politics and such, but I was wrong.
>>725922705Idk why does it? You seem to have all the answers.
>>725922825What do you mean?I keep asking you questions and you are scared of answering them lmao.Does genuine banter scare you this much?Just give an answer bro its not that deep.
>>725920194Culture?
>>725922910Yes but how do you REALLY feel
>>725920943I have zero contact with any of them so I never hear about any of them but in passing. I am completely detached to whatever passes for a culture or community these days, aside from visiting this god forsaken place to look at funny threads. I just play the same games I always did. Although there are rare times I miss the old communities, that one or two servers you always visited and got to know the characters in it.
>>725922980Mildly amused?Kids who are freaked out by simple questions and bend over backwards to avoid answering them are silly. Also Biscuit Oliva's entire physique is stupid as fuck so I am laughing over that.
>>725922962>Culture?you're on 4chan in the middle of the night, you know what videogame culture means>>725920749>.... so no?slightly faggy upspeak but the other person is clearly on about something
>>725920194i am old. i wasted my 20s hiding on imageboards and now it's too late to break into the social circle of other 30 year olds i don't really care about games anymore. i don't play games. i visit /v/ only out of habit. in another life i could've been a transsexual furry artist
>>725923037I love you
>>725921909Vtubers just feel so soulless and corporate, which is why they never enticed me at all. Everything about them feels fake.
>>725920943>gachaproud to not know what that is other than its maybe like pachinko except you grind to unlock female characters (non-waifu)
No, infact I feel it can't let go of the millenial audience.
>>725923093Damn, first this guy says I sound slightly faggy >>725923124and now I am rizzing up anonsWhat the fuck can I do in the face of this teamwork?
>>725920194Do you like anything other than video games and shitposting on 4chan? Because you should.
>>725920194Only because the monoculture is gone. There used to be "the games" that everyone played because it was impossible to create niche markets that were worth making games for back then. Now you can make an indie roguelight dungeon-crawling crafting farming-sim with satanic romance and sell 100k on Steam.AVGN's first 50 episodes or so were the games we all played, because those were "the games". You played them or nothing. (yeah, there's a lot more NES games than he reviewed, but some of them are too good to make a funny review). The same was true of television, music, and film. There were different genres, but within those genres there were a handful of good ones that everyone knew. Everyone watched the Simpsons, everyone saw Jurassic Park, everyone heard Aerosmith.
>>725920943Nah, I just ignore all that.I wouldn't even see it if you Zoomer faggots wouldn't constantly spam it on /v/.
>>725922505>stolen assets from storesIf it was a purchased asset, it wasn't stolen. Assets have always been sold, people just didn't discuss it... Or question it. Ocarina of Time's song "Fire Temple" sampled the 76th track of the commercial sample CD Voice Spectral: Volume 1 by Best Service.https://youtu.be/bsCN0Yx2Vbs?t=85There was a random resource somewhere that mapped the origin of Mario 64's textures, I'm sure. But just google it.
>>725923174It is just that
not really. the time demands makes me feel old. every modern video game that's sat anywhere near big sums of money would handcuff you to your machine until you've spent enough of your time on it. that day, that week, it's become my new judging standard. any game that would prefer i check in on it like a nanny with a controller, i'm automatically out. let some other suckers login daily, i reserve my right to ignore a game. if it's clingy enough to punish that, then no thank you.
Communities around games seem to die in an instant today.
I'm not really a part of any culture. I play multiplayer games but i don't have a mic and i don't look at the chats, i just play the games, so i don't really feel the 'culture' anywhere.
>>725920649Can't create without capital.
No, being old makes me feel old
It has never been a culture. It is an ideal of heroism and awesome.
>>725920194I haven't paid for a single microtransaction or a game subscription.
>>725921250It's amusing when you consider at a certain price point, it's just cheaper to buy your own PC and AI gen your own gacha.
>>725920194tbqh culture is fragmented enough these days that if you're finding yourself surrounded by 12 year olds its kind of a (you) problem
>>725920194No. But it makes me feel sad for the young.
>>725921703It's weird. I have one group of friends that are all about 5 years younger than me that sit in Discord, but are actively talking and playing games with each other the entire time. I have another group of friends, my age around 34, that just want to sit in a call not saying anything but, "hey I'm streaming this game if you want to watch". If you're doing stuff and laugh or whatever, they ask what you're looking at, then go "oh, haha" and that's it afterward. It always makes me feel fucking awkward.
>>725920194Yes, not because i find something particular odd about it, i still enjoy a lot, but because, just like that picture kinda depics, an oldman surrounded by kids its weird.
>>725925209How?
>>725925215It's weird to sit in Discord for hours no matter what's going on. Even when I played WoW like 18 hours a day we only got into Vent during raids.
>>725926768>WoW18 HOURS?
>>725924151Check out this gipsy.
>PC is full swing in online-only, gaas 'trend'>More and more MP coop games>Everyone on shitcordAnd the current youth will eat this up
>>725928007Coop is fine.
>>725920194games aren't made for you anymore, old man.
being old makes me feel old
The only thing that makes me feel old is how everyone talks like uneducated niggers nowadays.
>>725920194I already feel old on 4chan, people here praising slop like WoW, Halo and more because they have nostalgia for it.And now they are praising a prebuilt like the steam machine that's in the same league as alienware shit
>90s and early 00sWe're gucci, all I had to deal with was the occasional l33t tism>10sRabid fanbases full of teens following let's players and shit like Fnaf. Git gud fags pop out. Oh well, at least we still had decent games and last fumes of creepy pasta. >NowNow I have to deal with mindless consumerism. If I had to mention something positive, it would probably be the death of E3
>>725928967This is especially common on /v/.
Only when it comes to multiplayer stuff. Fuck F2P, give me map packs back.People will forever meme the failure that was Concord and yeah while that game did deserve to fail, it wasn't because of the way it was monetized. $40 with no battle pass, in a perfect world, is what the norm should be.
>>725924151I hate using mics when playing online. I usually just mute myself and mute everyone and listen to music while playing that sort of stuff.
>>725928087Wrong
>>725924565nigger just blender and create some shitty resident evil clone in Unity.
>>725920194I'm 23 and I'm just tired of these overtly positive retards who need to suck off every corporation, eagerly eat up slop, and corpos keep making my favorite games go mainstream and lose what made them originally special.
>>725930164I have standards though.
>15 years ago>meet person online>they invite me to play minecraft>we play minecraft>today>meet person online>they invite me to play minecraft>we play minecraftliterally nothing has changed, why would i feel old
>>725928007They have no choice.
>>725920194was da uncslop toon?67
there's literally no difference between the agesinstead of using xfire and writing "IMHO AFK CU PROG PLZ TIA", it's discord and "UNC FR STICKS"
>>725924617Damn, he let himself out huh
>>725920194Vidya left me like a decade ago, I don't feel the same joy I've felt in a long time.
No, it makes me feel like everyone younger than me is completely retarded.
>>725920194>modern video game cultureAnd what it is? Gamers will always be gamers, we never change.
>>725924565Your brain, your time and your energy are your capital bro.
No, the sentiment i have towards modern gaming is more like, "Damn y'all fall for this shit? That's crazy."
>>725920194Not exactlyThe only time I keenly feel too old and out of place is using /vp/. /v/ says dumb shit, but it's usually nothing TOO crazy or it's said in a way that I can buy that they person actually thinks this./vp/ is not like that. It's extremely blatant that they don't actually believe what they're posting. They just sit there being intentionally obtuse and arguing in circles for hours on end to mildly rustle some jimmies and waste people's time. I genuinely cannot imagine an adult man doing this, or at least not at the frequency /vp/ does it.
>>725920194I feel more lost than anything else. Everything is in its own algorithmic pool that I don't know how to ground myself in the culture anymore
>>725920194>video game cultureJust culture, period, there's no separation anymore. The same "vibe" is present in every circle, zoomer lingo is now the de facto way of communication.
>>725920194Not old, but it has left me feeling pretty disenfranchised.I love video games and used to see eye to eye with most of /v/, but now most of /v/ is full of people who actively dislike most of what I love about video games and like things that I hate about modern video games.Legitimately, I’m beginning to feel like I’m outgrowing them at this point, and it makes me a little sad.
