I'm an old fuck. Been away from Nintendo for over a decade. I'm neither a hater or superfan. I just love Zelda. Decided to finally try this one, because I've heard its a masterpiece. I played the first bit of the tutorial area and... quit. For months.Then I played and finally got off it. Does it get better? Because right now, it feels like it wants to be something completely different from zelda. Its clunky, frustrating, written in a completely different style, and just uncomfortable. The most jarring thing is how unrewarding exploring feels. Everything is a consumable. There's nothing cool to find or collect.
They went for the open world angle. It is what it is. I liked it at the time.Now, after SEVERAL YEARS for the next mainline Zelda to be just that game copy and pasted with some shitty DLC tacked on, THAT'S a slap in the face.

BotW was a good foundation for a better game. TotK was not that game. All they had to do was revise weapon durability into sharpness and pick up sharp stones in order to sharpen your weapon back to form, better weapons last longer before you have to sharpen them again and you can't move until you're finished. That alone would be better than your weapon being badly damaged without any normal means of fixing them.
