Silver and Blaze supposedly being a reference to Tanabata doesn't even work right in the context of 06 since it implies that they both originate from the same place under the same conditions, and their separation was done by choice and not from cosmic fate. Compare this to Rush, where Sonic and Blaze are clearly from opposite worlds/lives, bond, are then separated due to the cosmic nature of their worlds ripping them apart, and then promise that they'll see each other again in the future.Sonic and Blaze's dynamic is FAR closer to Tanabata than Silver and Blaze's and the only stopping it is the fact that it's not explicitly romantic. The real takeaway from all of this is that Silver and Blaze shouldn't have even been a major focus in 06, and it should've focused on cementing Silver and Sonic's dynamic in the same way Rush did with Sonic and Blaze. All it ended up doing was making Silver feel like a side character in what was supposed to be his breakout game.
