The first game's limited mobility led to combat encounters being more strategic and puzzle-like. You had to pick the right weapon for the job, or else you're going to eat shit. In the sequels, weapon selection means nothing thanks to strafing removing the need for careful positioning and every weapon can now be used in every encounter carelessly. Enemies and their unique distinctions mattered more in 1, like for example the claw monsters on orxon which necessitates a close quarters weapon, you try to blatser you'll have a way harder time, there's lots of varied enemies which force you to adapt in conjunction with Ratchets more restrictive movement means you have to utilize more niche weapons sometimes.Remember, making more accessible controls does not automatically equate to a better game.
The average person views any level of friction as bad game design. You're wasting your time trying to convince people.
if you hate strafing so much, just don't use it
>>7259486031 is easily the best. 2 is an identity crisis but with overall great production value and great variety in scenery and atmosphere. 3 is that same production value with utterly dogshit production value, boring environments, zero atmosphere, and overall quality sacrificed for a multiplayer framework that nobody gave a shit about. Gladiator is the polar opposite of 1, but without the issue of not knowing what it wants to be. It's focused and does what it set out to do well, unlike 2 and 3. Still, that something just happens to be a bland third person co-op shooter.1 > 2 >>> Gladiator >>>>>>>>>>> 3
>>725948403The first 3 games are equally good and I do have a soft spot for the very first one. I prefer Ratchet voiced by a nigga, and the Chairman Drek plot is awesome. It felt more like an adventure game before the guns came too much into focus, but conversely I also love that about the 2 next games. But Tools of Destruction is where it died. The new writing by a "TJ Fixman" is literal Hannah Montana humor. Before then it was more like Ed Edd n Eddy, where it's "for children" but a lot of it is such a culture parody that you get to laugh with it as a grown-up too, and highly stereotyped "offensive" characters, and a lot of jabbing at MTV-culture, and commercialism in general.Starting with ToD they lost the satire, and became "LOL, SO RANDOM" for little babies, and tiptoeing around "potentially offensive" stereotypes. That's when woke-liberalism had taken over, and I quickly noticed something felt off about it. After Crack in Time I gave up on the series. I wondered how people kept talking about how it was "the best one" but didn't notice the tone was completely gone. Then years later TGBS made a video about it and that's literally the first time I felt like someone who wasn't me pointed it out.
should i play ratchet and clank if my only experience with it was playing duels with my neighbour when i was 7
>>725951412>3 is that same production valueSame identity crisis*

>>725948403I never got into these games but they do look interesting at least. Going to keep what you said in mind if I ever get around to these games. My backlog is way too huge.
>>725948403Decomp When??
>>725948403Never played these games but this is a keyed pasta.
>>725951412i don't disagreeyou can still just choose not to strafe if you think it makes the game too easy
>>725951680yes they're all great. then play jak 1-3 and sly 1-3. get a real ps2 and get the dmcs, god hand, persona etc. will change ur life.
>>725948403i know this is a troll post meant to be divisive because the only way (You) can gst attention is through negativity, but ratchet 1 actually is my favorite of the ps2 quadrilogy. the plot had a lot of personality to it and i actually enjoyed the simplicity of it. it felt like a straight evolution of agent 9's gameplay in spyro yotd
>>725948403>bomb glove bomb glove bomb gloveNice "puzzle" you got there.
>>725952350>think tank controls are integral to Resident Evil survival horror formula? Dude just don't strafe and stop before shooting in the newer action games lmao>think not having quest markers to rely on made Morrowind an immersive adventure game? Dude just turn off markers in Skyrim lmaohttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SMhwddNQSWQ
>>725956250u have to actively press a button to strafe you mentally ill retard
>>725956379Game balance doesn't exist in a vacuum and design decisions don't suddenly change because you voluntarily choose to not engage in a mechanic around which the game is built you absolute mouthbreather.
>>725956648can you give an example, troon?
>>725956717You're a fucking idiot.
>>725957139what a low iq retard
Not even worth a (You). Consider suicide.
>>725948403>ruins your board for 2 years

>>725948403>The first game's limited mobility led to combat encounters being more strategic and puzzle-like. You had to pick the right weapon for the job, or else you're going to eat shit.I've started doing playthroughs where I skip weapons, this year I skipped the blaster and taunter, 80% of encounters are easily done with the bomb glove. Also you're completely forgetting that R&C does have a strafe mode, you just unlock it on Hoven instead of it always being available.>In the sequels, weapon selection means nothing thanks to strafing removing the need for careful positioning and every weapon can now be used in every encounter carelessly.I suspect you're lying because you think you're right and want to present a scenario where people might agree with you.Last year I played Rift Apart for the first time, it doubles down on all the things you say strafing "ruined" or "removed".
>>725948403gamingbrit ruined ratchet and clank discussion
>>725957139>Asked to substantiate his claim with an example>Goes full retard
>>7259514122's atmosphere can be lacking because you never get the sense that people actually live in the bogon galaxy. it always feels like a corporate museum with prop buildings and robot kiosks. fair enough if iut was completely intentional to give off the galaxy just being one corporate product but it's consistently dead feeling throughout.
You can samefag all you want, you're still not getting any (You)s you retarded shitskin.
Okay I understand, schizophrenia.
>>725958547>getting so mad that you pull the in-direct reply moveYou've basically admitted you're wrong.
>>725948403I dunno I think strafing would've been fine if the game kept the more specialized weapon design and also retained the split focus of the platforming/combat sections of the games. each game turned more and more into shooters and weapons turned more and more into playthings you pick by preference and not tools you use because they fit the job at hand. you're blaming an ok system for the team shifting their entire level and enemy design philosophy
>>725951645>woke-liberalism is where the critiques of hyper-capitalism and corporatism endednot very woke at all then eh?
>>725956379>u have to actively press a button to strafethat stopped being the case after awhile, with lock-strafe being the default control method come deadlock IIRC
>>725959045i was under the impression that we were talking about the PS2 games. maybe i was wrong.
>>725959045it was only the default for deadlocked. tools of destruction had third person be default again
>>725959515Wow really? I could swear they were default for all the PS3 titles but I haven't played them in quite awhile, probably not gonna replay them any time soon though because they stunk
