Yes. There have been mods for that for years, like Galacticraft.

They're just pitstops to gather the next special metal to upgrade your rocket, and maybe a boss. They need mobs that aren't just Earth mobs with a bubble on their head.
Like, fill Mars with Dinosaurs or something.
