How bad is the shitstorm going to be when Link inevitably stops being a silent self-insert? They've already pretty much dropped the "self-insert" part, and BotW and Echoes of Wisdom both took steps towards dropping the "silent" part, which will culminate in the live action movie.
>>
Depends on the voice, it he goes
>EXCUUUUUSEEE ME, PRINCESS
I'd buy it day one
>>
They might give him more options for dialogue like in BotW but they won’t ever give him a voice. Other than the green tunic it’s literally his biggest characteristic

I dont get why Botw took place in a desolate kingdom, and Prime4 is the one that gets a voiced sidekick. Those should be reversed.

>I dont get why Botw took place in a desolate kingdom
All games must be desolate now because it's the only way to make open world work. It's one reason I'm sick of the genre. The setting is the same every time.

It's pretty much inevitable at this point. As soon as Nintendo got rid of the name options for Link in BoTW, I knew they were considering a voice for him soon. They can't have the lead protagonist be a silent character anymore, and it directly conflicts with cross-media expansion plans plans into movies and streaming shows.
And it makes sense why Nintendo would abandon the silent avatar gimmick eventually: the one major upside that Link has in comparison to other mature Nintendo characters, is that there are canonically-defined multiple versions of him. Nintendo could fuck up one incarnation of Link, and then shit out another with a different personality that's more pleasing or accommodating to their target base.

Plus, the Links' personalities are already pretty well-defined in the 3D games anyway. If you're narratively-inclined or autistic enough, you can already gauge a general picture personalities through their backstories and relationships alone. For BoTW Link, it's already all there in Zelda's journal and his dialogue options.

> They can't have the lead protagonist be a silent character anymore,
People wouldn't care if link stayed quiet while everyone else talked. not like it's awkward like pokemon cutscenes.

I like how Philips probably killed it from happening for 30 years.

thank god, get the writers back in the writing room, get the voice actors back in the recording booth, it's finally time for fucking kino.

It absolutely is and I'm seeing a lot of other fans beginning to agree. With the introduction of voice acting, his silence is getting immersion-breaking for major cutscenes; it just doesn't work anymore. Though it probably doesn't help that BoTW Link is least emotive of the 3D Link's either. Guy's just a fucking blank rock, even during crucial emotional moments.

Botw Link gives me serial killer vibes just like Oot Link did
>>
>>725959467
Both of them give off literal autist vibes.

I miss the green tunic and hat. I hate the ghibli hood and blue shirt so fucking much.
>>
>>725961562
They're bringing back green tunic Link for the movie at least, so that's a sign the next mainline game will probably feature the green tunic agan.
>>
Stop caring about video game movie adaptions. Them being good is a very very VERY rare occurrence

Silent self-insert shit is terrible and every old game that did it was worse off for it. It works in RPGs when you can actually pick all your dialogue, but that's it.

How was Age of Imprisonment?

Link is the typical shonen heroic protagonist, the trope has been done a million times
>>
>>725956346
they can do whatever they want with this link, i just want botw to not be the default look and setting of every fucking zelda thing now.
>>
>>725956346
I don't want silent characters with zero personality. I want cool, competent and heroic male characters who all the girls want to date
simple as
>>
>>725964446
Your typical shonen protagonist is at least a character with their own personality and motivations, Link is held back by being in this middle ground where he's too defined to be a self insert, but not enough to be a character.
>>
I don't care, even on release my impression of BotW Link was that they clearly did not care about the self-insert angle anymore and want him to be a character with an established personality instead of a blank slate. After a certain point I just felt like there was no reason why Link shouldn't have dialogue and shitty voice acting like every one else in the game.

Link being a self insert hasn't really held water since Link's Awakening and Ocarina of Time, he has some measure of personality just to facilitate the story of the game
>>
>>725966256
That's the same thing. The point of those characters is to pretend that they're you.

Who tf self inserts as a femboy eunuch?
>>
>>725964446
Yes and no. Usually bog-standard shonen protagonists are extroverted, loud and boisterous. Most Links aren't fully that and lean on the introverted side.

It's crazy how Nintendo was just that fucking lazy to simply not rig new animations for Twilight Princess Wii and then give the player an option to switch them.
Same for Skyward sword, how fucking hard is to create a second animation set that's just ctrl+c ctrl+v but inverted then LET THE PLAYER CHOOSE if he wants left hand vs right hand.
But noooooo they have to be THAT fucking lazy, just like GF and Pokemon.
>>
>>725971652
Isn't it literally just as simple as mirroring the skeleton? Where did they get the fucktarded idea to flip THE ENTIRE RENDER OUTPUT

My problem is that I don't fucking trust Nintendo with voiced Link and Samus anymore. Do you?
