PS2 launch was actually the first failure of Sony Playstation and the point of divergence in cumulative profits where Nintendo started increasing while Sony started decreasing, and they never recovered from it. Selling the consoles at a loss to undercut the market was a short term blitzkrieg tactic and it appears to have simply failed. At no point has Sony ever beat Nintendo in profit terms, which is the only number that matters.
