Imagine this but better
>>725971375It's called Ground Zeroes.
Death Stranding was actually a big improvement on MGSV's ideas in many ways. The main map is a thousand times better and much more fun to navigate due to the traversal mechanics. It was also smarter about how it spread out the story so it feels slightly more cohesive, even though open world games will always struggle with stories.
>>725971375already played peace walker
>>725971375Depending on what you're looking for that'd be either Hitman or Snake Eater
>>725971494>just do the same level over and over againNo.
>>725971375>have the best controls and the most freedom of problem solving in the series>nobody cares because there wasn't a funny gay man shitting his pants or a mini-movie about modern technology
>>725971375>bettercant
I already know of MGS 1, 2 and 3

>>725971375>>725971719If you are alluding to Kojima's worst games, then, indeed, I dislike intensely Metal Gear Solid 4 and the ghastly Death Stranding rigamarole. No, I do not object to soul-searching and self-revelation, but in those games the soul, and the sins, and the sentimentality, and the journalese, hardly warrant the tedious and muddled search. Kojima’s lack of taste, his monotonous dealings with persons suffering with pre-Freudian complexes, the way he has of wallowing in the tragic misadventures of human dignity – all this is difficult to admire. I do not like this trick his characters have of ”sinning their way to Jesus” or, as a Russian author, Ivan Bunin, put it more bluntly, ”spilling Jesus all over the place." Metal Gear Solid V’s plot did not seem as incredibly banal in 2015 when the game was written as it does now, when noble mercenaries are apt to be received a little cynically by experienced players. Kojima never really got over the influence which the European arthouse film and the sentimental novel made upon him. The sentimental influence implied that kind of conflict he liked—placing virtuous people in pathetic situations and then extracting from these situations the last ounce of pathos. Non-Japanese gamers do not realize two things: that not all Japanese love Kojima as much as Americans do, and that most of those Japanese who do, venerate him as a mystic and not as an artist. He is a prophet, a claptrap journalist and a slapdash comedian. I admit that some of his scenes, some of his tremendous farcical rows are extraordinarily amusing. But his sensitive couriers and soulful mercenaries are not to be endured for one moment—by this player anyway. Kojima seems to have been chosen by the destiny of Japanese letters to become Japan’s most mediocre screenwriter, but he took the wrong turning and wrote video games.
>>725973076Nu-Hitman really is what MGSV should have been. Big, detailed sandbox levels that are actually designed around your toolkit.>>725971719If anything an open world SHOULD provide a game like MGSV with more freedom with its storytelling, since the premise of being a mercenary taking on random jobs for different clients gives you a lot of flexibility. The problem with V’s open world was that there was nothing in it except outposts. No friendly civilian settlements, no different factions fighting eachother in the overworld, no random encounters or anything. If it was like a Bethesda game where you had all this stuff on top of the outposts, then the game would feel far less unfinished and it would actually be a GOAT.

>>725971494The idea of a certain military base being infiltrated by the same person over and over again are just stupid
>>725971375you get Delta
>>725973748Wait, are you moralfagging about the Diamond Dogs being bad guys? The whole 'I'm already a demon' thing and you still think they're written as noble mercenaries? btw cringe writeup but I do agree on most points
>>725973748I can't agree with MGS' and Death Stranding's writing being analyzed as if they suffer from the same problems, that's just bull from someone over-keen to talk about Kojimbo and pat themselves on the back for pointing out the obvious But I do think that DS' writing is trash, it had the most compelling cinematic setup, and then the story and characters is all just autistic monologuing barely propped up by non-autistic acting and state of the art visuals- the quality of the writing is painfully in contrast with the overall quality of the game
>>725975308Delta is good, but it’s more just a slightly modernised MGS3 than it is MGSV.I understand why they didn’t just copy-paste MGSV’s movement and controls into the game, since it would break the game, but I do feel as though MGSV’s gameplay deserves a game with actual level design.
>>725973282It's by far the most popular/best selling MGS game though.>>725971375As time goes I accepted that this game is perfect in its own right. Or at least that it is finished. Truly a "phantom pain" from the start to the end.
>>725976737This, the FOX engine and the mechanics of V were god-tier, it just didn't have any interesting ideas regarding layout or boss battles so it felt like driving a NASCAR through a parking lot.
>>725976737>>725976906Correct Anons are correct. I remember years ago seeing someone do a few mock-up screenshots of the virtuous mission in FOX engine, it made me think exactly this. The game had an amazing foundation mechanically and IMO really great looks, but the ratio of tight level design to make-your-own-fun was extreme. Imagine if MGSV had had a one-off mission where you sneak onto a cargo ship out in a storm or something. It had the tools to make the ambience insane and deliver the haptically satisfying gameplay that MGS games always made you crave with its RC-car controls that twitchplayspokemon could handle on an off day
>>725976737>>725979640For Delta to have MGS V controls, they would have needed to completely redesign the game from the ground up since the MGSV sprint alone would completely break MGS3’s levels. Konami were smart enough to realise this, so they just ported the features from V that DIDN’T break the game and made it a Frankenstein between MGS3 controls and MGSV controls. I really think the only way you could do a Fox Engine MGS3 is if you redid the level design entirely, and Konami were obviously too scared to upset purists to even attempt doing that.
