They have to invent the technology used to make the game as they make the game. It's understandable it's taking so long and using such massive funding.

I wouldn't go that far, you're exaggerating. They need time more than money at this point obviously.
>>
The worst part about all of this is that the developers of Star Citizen apparently have run out of development money or are close to it and are absolutely desperate because they need way more money to develop the game they want to make.

They haven't even added dogs yet, for crying out loud.
>>
>>725978132
Mostly hopium. There aren't a lot of games that does everything SC does or plans to do lol. It's trying to ride the line between a space sim and an actually accessible game. Everything is physicalized, meaning you have to manually put cargo on your ship, change components on it, walk around stations, pick shit up, throw it, etc. but it's sold as this huge space game where "you can do anything" and people are still waiting on that "everything" to actually be engaging or mean something

Literally the only reason I gave you any money was to receive an actual successor to Wing Commander. Not an MMO. Not Freelancer (and especially not original, bloated monster of a concept you had in mind before Microsoft kicked you out). Not an imsim. Not Battlecruiser 3000AD with a bigger budget. Not a "journey for a decade".
A fucking Wing Commander game. How can that be?
How did you even make 5 (five!) of these back in the Origin days with this kind of remarkable inability to get anything done?

>>
>>725984994
That’s no better. Either way he’s wasting backer’s money/time instead of delivering the product he promised when they invested.

Same thing with the coffee machine, and the door, and all the other unnecessary expenses. Nobody would care about if the game was out. The investors would have gotten what they bargained for: a completed game. If it had come in under budget, or they’d turned a profit and spent it on frivolous luxuries it’d be a non-issue. Plenty of businesses do that sort of stuff. But when they’ve been given orders of magnitude more funding than they originally needed, and are years behind schedule, it no longer looks like a normal business. It looks more like Elizabeth Holmes spending Theranos’ money on her lavish lifestyle.

The only downside is how often you run into planets discovered by Greg_Thundersavage_1995 or whatever.
For as big as they were touting it to be, you sure do run into already-explored planets a lot.

You're either flying too close to the core or incredibly lucky, most of the time I never see any discovered planets.

I want to be alone.
I'm nowhere near the core - I could go start a game now, and there's a pretty high chance that I could find a player-discovered planet within 20 jumps.
Also, check your log thing (can't remember the name - the thing that lists all your visited places), I bet dollars to donuts that it's got "discovered by xxxx" where xxxx is not you.

>>
>>725994770
If you get it on sale it's not bad. The game is overall pretty bland. In practice you can do everything they say you can do, but it ends up being more or less the same all the time. Every abandoned freighter is identical, every combat encounter is the same with the same enemies, every mission is the same (get the McGuffin, put it in the slot) the assets for the procedurally generated planets end up being recognizable very quickly, every space station is identical, every pirate encounter is identical. Wide as the ocean, shallow as a puddle. There's just not enough assets, the artstyle is kinda lame, the guns have no impact, and the ships steer like toy boats instead of fighter jets. I feel like NMS could be great if the scope was smaller believe it or not. If it was a scripted campaign that really took it's time in the initial base building and resource gathering, or even if it just made hyperdrive fuel exorbitantly expensive it could be an excellent game. You just get to the end game ripping between systems with a freighter fleet too quickly, and most of the meat of the game become trivialized. On that not it CAN be comfy if you're into base building and ship design.

Every online game has issues with player churn, players lose interest after 2 weeks on average. That's why so many adhd shit with daily activities and other bullshit but it only slows the trend, to keep online, they should get new players, so they burn money on ads to keep the balance of influx and outflow of players. Even if we assume that Chris Roberts has a sect of anonymous whales, it wouldn't last so long.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nWm_OhIKms8

>Game still is just a broken alpha
It's very buggy, but it's way beyond the alpha stage. They could release it as is right now, or even years ago. They have the engine and the world, but the game lacks content, which is the main reason why it comes off as unfinished. It's obvious that the reason they don't want to release it and why they keep it in perpetual early access stage is because they know it would not live up to the massive expectations and promises in the current state.

NMS is still shallow. That said it has full VR motion controls and is immersive.

Elite dangerous + odyssey is a better example with more complex ship systems and ground gameplay.

not really. they showed a bunch of nyx stuff which was all pretty cool but i don't really give a shit until i see it and it doesnt run like ass. the biggest news is instancing for specific contracts and events that can be progressed and then left for the next time you log on.

Make it a system with like 20-30 planets top, but flesh out all of them more, and it would be a better experience. It's always a problem with open world games, where a more focused game would put more interesting content into a single city than open world one into a whole country/continent/planet/universe.

A con where citizens are conned.

>but the game lacks content, which is the main reason why it comes off as unfinished
I don't know how much content you expect?
>ships fly and have interiors and subsystems
>characters have armor and guns
>cargo can be moved as physical boxes and traded at bases
>shoot rocks receive cargo items
>shoot salvage receive cargo items
>shoot ships they blow up receive cargo items
>clunky FPS gamemodes on planets
What more are you expecting? Scam citizen is a scam, but I don't know what's missing from it gamewise.

That was before Chris Roberts made it apparent that he would never finish the game in any way. Plus you were a dumb teen. Everyone has that game that they wee disappointed by

There are grown ass adults still paying for this shit TO THIS DAY and who still think the game will come out. That's beyond defensible.

base building and crafting, the most basic of basic features that every game has

>Post YFW You Didn't Fall For the Star Citizen Scam
Being proud of not falling for SC is like being proud for not buying into Cryptoland.
It's not something you should be proud of, it's merely a display that you don't need a legal guardian to make all monetary decisions for you.

the entire vidya industry is a money laundering scheme
there isn't a single big budget game that people remember more fondly than a modest sized classic made on with a lean team on a tight budget

meh, at least you can sell your account for more money than you paid for right?
Just in case you have family or go bankrupt.

Kojima clearly likes making games.
Star Citizen isn't a game, more like an engineering project as such it is only natural they would try to embezzle funds and delay it as long as they can while doing minimum work.

>Which industry? All of them.
it's because of the shareholders, I'm a dev and we are currently building an app, shareholders stressed so much about releasing it we couldn't even do proper testing lmao.

I wanted to buy the starter vehicle as well, something felt wrong when they announced the 20,000$ spaceship which implied the game would be very p2w.
35 years later the game isn't even out lol.

Crafting is for preindustrial settings. You're not making sub 7nm chipsets at home. Even with 3d printers, cnc, picker-placers and other desktop manufacturing the product is limited. Same with ship repairs that should be

All that tweaking, customization and "crafting" should be done at a hangar facility or planetary shop/lab.

Shipboard pre processing should be wasteful gross concentration to reduce mass and volume and inferior to a facility smelter. Same with everything else craftable. The exception should be replacing wire harneses and parts like what car modders do to make things lighter or gain extra horsepower with aftermarket upgrades.

Basebuilding should be colony planning and decorating.

I almost bought in with a $40 ship or the $60 3-ship pack...13 years ago. Glad I did not.

go treat yourself to a walk in the star citizen subreddit, they're the easiest people on the world to troll because they ALL spent hundreds, if not thousands, of burgermoney on ships and they're addicted to it and will compete with each other like good little consoomercucks. There's literally another subreddit for people breaking their addiction and refunding the game. It's the most pathetic group of people you'll ever find.
