Modern Nintendo is a soulless zombie corporation. But did it die with Iwata, or earlier still?

Isn't Sega lost to EA that reversed Genesis, made their own SDK and cartridges, and published literally bootleg games?
>>

Same with the Atari. Anti-bootlegging policies are as old as video games.

They encrypt their games. To copy a game you need to decrypt the game, and bypassing decryption is illegal according to DMCA.
It's the same for emulators, bypassing decryption is illegal, and that's how they took them all down

Why is always poorfag jeets who can't play their games for free the ones complaining?

what phenomenon causes this?
>>
I have had every Nintendo handheld since the gameboy pocket. The last one I will ever own is the switch and its because all their kikery. I bought my consoles and games, and I have many of them on my PC as roms to play on my emulators. There is no way I will let my games and saves die with the hardware and there is no way I will pay for a cloud service to handle them for me. I even have an external hard rive with every one of my steam games, so in case valve dies, all I have to do is bypass the steam bootstrap and have my full game and save.

Back then, it felt you owned your device, games and saves. Last generation, nintenso more so than any other console.
But now, not only is Nintendo is turning around, they are becoming the worst.

Im done with Nintendo, wont buy any of their new games again. Probably for life.
And I was a big pokemon and mario fan.

copying games for the purpose of backing up the data is perfectly legal in all decent countries
as long as you dont upload and share that data with others
>>
>>725998398
The "copying device illegal" has been in Nintendo stuff for decades. Look up any old manual dating at least back to the mid-1990s, they'll have some blurb that always reads something like this.
>Copying of any Nintendo game is illegal and is strictly prohibited by domestic and international copyright laws. "Back-up" or "archival" copies are not authorized and are not necessary to protect your software. Violators will be prosecuted.

Reminder that you can help preservation by submitting dump metadata to Redump (optical media) and No-Intro (cartridges and digital downloads, including DRM-free PC releases).

For the record, this infograph (back from 2022) is not about missing official releases for those consoles. All of them were dumped. It's meant to indicate how many got a single dump, and how many got 2 or more.

>what drives do I need to dump CD games?
http://wiki.redump.org/index.php?title=Optical_Disc_Drive_Compatibility:_CD
For PS2 and PC DVD games, any DVD drive will work fine.
>why are verifications important?
>Verifications are vital in verifying that the information in the database is accurate, and that a dump is reproduceable by another person using the same tools and methods. An existing dump could be erroneous due to a variety of factors, including user error, hardware and software issues, and more. Furthermore, even when someone is doing everything correctly and has adequate software and hardware, there is a chance that their dump could be incorrect, due to the way data sectors on a disc are read and validated (especially Compact Discs). In most cases, the data will be read and verified successfully, but the process of reading data is not infallible, so there are times when a second dump of the same disc could provide differing information. Verifications help to identify and correct some of these issues.

The software used for this purposes is MPF (Windows-only), which serves as a frontend for DIC and Redumper (and Aaru too).

You can also use their standalone versions (ALSO available for Mac and Linux):

Their legal team was always cancer, but they used to at least make games worth playing. Now the legal team is still cancer and all their games are mediocre 5/10 titles.

Came in here to post this. Nintendo is notorious in the legal department. Always has. But prior to Switch 2 they at least had good games coming out to distract the mindless masses. But as that becomes less and less true in recent years a lot more people are starting to notice how scummy they really are.
>But did it die with Iwata, or earlier still?
The facade died with Iwata. Without him (and Reggie) the company started to give less and less of a shit about their own public image. And why bother at this point? DK Bananza sold really well, Legends ZA sold really well, and Kirby Air Ride will absolutely sell really well (the jury's still out on Prime 4 because Metroid was always relatively niche compared to their other big hitters). They have cultivated a cultist fandom who will buy anything and everything with the Nintendo label on it.
