>Most games are pretty simple. You try to talk to enemies, you die, you're forced to shoot them to progress. Undertale changed that.
>>
>>726001150
Well, I guess you could talk to the scientists in Blake Stone.
>>
Persona 1 did it
>>
>>726001461
You could talk to the demons all the way back in 1987's Megami Tensei 1 on the Famicom
>>
>everyone on /v/ is too young to get the reference
>>
>>726001325
Where?

>>726001397
That guy was probably comparing it to Ultima Underworld or something.
>>
>>726002387
My only guess is Gaming in the Clinton Years.
>>
>>726002387
Wasn't it an Edge magazine review or something?
>>
no john you are the demons
>>
>>726003806
SSG wasn’t in Doom 1, that’s why people are confused. It first showed up in Doom II. Unless someone’s playing a janked-up WAD or some fanmade Dehacked crap with it backported, it’s straight-up not there. As for Blake Stone-yeah, that’s probably just retro cope. It’s always Ultima this, Underworld that with these dudes.
>>
>>726005405
I know, but there's no SSG in OP screenshot.
>>
Doomguy was the demons
>>
>>726005405
I remember that Playstation Doom shuffled Doom 2 content into Doom 1 maps, so you'd see Revenants in Containment Area, for example. Possibly you could get the SSG earlier in that version, too. But as the other anon said, there's no SSG in the OP pic.

At this point I hear that sentence and I think of Action Button Reviews season 1. Connecting Doom, Cyberpunk, Tokimeki Memorial, and Final Fantasy VII Remake was brilliant.

It's simultaneously disheartening and comforting to know that faggotry has always been a thing among vidya journoids.
>>
>>726006471
Explain? I'm not watching a dozen 48 hours worth of youtube videos to understand what you're talking about.

It's a old review of doom that became a meme referenced in that one video.

No I was asking this retard to explain how this Action Button Reviews series links the games that he mentioned together because each video in that series is over 3 hours long.

In the 90s, Edge Magazine was worth buying because it the only publication in the UK that gave candid reviews, pushing past the marketing hype to point out the flaws in major releases (except for sacred Nintendo games where the bonus always applied). The tradeoff was that you also had to put up with a certain amount of pretentiousness from them. They were early proponents of the "videogames as an artform" bullshit, desperate for their avenue of journalism to be taken more seriously.
>>
Anyone in here like to do Sprite art and want to make a DOOM mod with me?

They were clearly just being silly, because every other publication at the time had already praised Doom to high heavens, so instead of just repeating what little there was to say about Doom's simple but sheer quality, they wrote a le ironic "review" that said something wacky and contrarian.
>>
>>726010142
If he wants me to understand what the fuck he's saying he'll need to explain because I am not watching a dozen 3-4 hour long video essays just to understand anon's post.
>>
>>726009943
purely socioeconomic factors
>>

I mean, what I said is the summary. To find out the finer details would require you to watch them. The Doom review is great and works well standalone. His style is an acquired taste, and people who like it tend to go full faggot and start to think he is their real friend. Fair warning given.
