The first game's limited mobility led to combat encounters being more strategic and puzzle-like. You had to pick the right weapon for the job, or else you're going to eat shit. In the sequels, weapon selection means nothing thanks to strafing removing the need for careful positioning and every weapon can now be used in every encounter carelessly.

Enemies and their unique distinctions mattered more in 1, like for example the claw monsters on orxon which necessitates a close quarters weapon, you try to blatser you'll have a way harder time, there's lots of varied enemies which force you to adapt in conjunction with Ratchets more restrictive movement means you have to utilize more niche weapons sometimes.

A very first playthrough of the game will always have situations where the player feels like they hit a roadblock because they keep using the wrong weapons. Just watch any stream of someone playing the game for the first time and you'll see. That never happens with any other game in the series.

I guess the spamming autist found a new hyper fixation.

i sort of have to agree. the series went from an action platformer to an action shooter, essentially, like so many other games from the time also did - why was that? why did everything turn into a shooter in the mid to late 2000s?

You're right and I've been thinking about this and similar things recently. Like how Mega Man Legends 2 is in theory a better game because of the vastly improved lock-on, yet the first game was better partially because of how clunky it was. Make a video essay about it, call it "Sometimes better isn't better" or something clickbaity like that.

I prefer an action/platformer to play like an action/platformer and not a rock paper scissors turn based RPG

Halo and Call of Duty

Not going to read your blogpost
strafing saved the series
Ratchet 3 + Gladiator were the best
The original is on par with the filler titles like All4One

>Strafing ruined the series
So the series has been ruined from the very first game...

Don't be a disingenuous faggot, the strafing from the first game was a tool you didn't even get until way later on and wasn't as good as the strafing in the sequels

But you still got it in the first game
Doesn't matter if it was good or not it was still there
