The only time trading in stuff wasn't a scam was when they did the "50% extra store credit" deal or something like that if you traded in 5 items which put the trade-in value of some games higher than what you could buy them for. It was an actual infinite money glitch and I got my Switch 1 for free.
I work at gamestop, at most they are allowed to offer 50 dollars for not-too-old electronics
