Silent Hill 1 is getting a native PC port soon, probably next year. The decompilation is at 55% complete. I haven't played it in years and never completed it. I liked the game but could never get the grasp on the story. Can someone explain it to me? If so, please do.
holy fucking uncslop kys
Unc ahhh game
Sybau unctroon
OP you're retarded kek>>726012689>>726012779>>726012803What is the UNC meme? Are people getting way into college football this year?
>>726012689>>726012779>>726012803Every single of these is a bot.>>726012850I'm retarded for not understanding a story that is known to be complicated?
>>726013093It's a little opaque sure but it's not like Eraserhead or anything
>>726012532>Cult tries to revive demon>Cult leader's daughter, Alessa, shows magical abilities>Ritual is performed to impregnate her with their "god" but boiler explosion happens, whether accidental or on purpose is unclear.>Alessa splits her soul in two, the other half goes inside a baby>Harry Mason finds this baby and just raises her as his own daughter>When she's 7, Cheryl, Harry's daughter, is drawn to Silent Hill>This is what the cult always wanted, for the two souls to rejoin and for their god to be reborn>Alessa and Cheryl merge, Demon god is born>Harry kills it >Alessa just spawns another baby before dying, Harry takes her and raises as his own daughter again. This is the gist of it, Silent Hill 3 continues that story.
But why? It's perfectly playable with Duckstation even with widecreen patch. And it's not really a good game. >>726012850More Sharteen raid, just ignore them.
>>726013274If reuniting Alessa' soul causes the god to manifest than why did she need to give birth in the first place? This makes it seem like Alessa herself was the god.
>>726012850>What is the UNC meme?stands for uncircumcised.
>>726012532Just play it on dickstation
>>726013487i don't know that's just how it works, there's a scene where the cult guys explain the seed lies dormant until the souls are reunited, the first ritual was supposed to give it birth but went wrong as i explained
>>726013486Because the pc version will be way more modular, making the jittering stop and increasing the framerate without messing with the game logic. Some people don't care about that, but I do. The higher resolution and framerate made me really enjoy ocarina way more than emulating it.>it's not a good gameIt's a good game, good but no masterpiece and certanly inferior to the original RE trilogy when it comes to gameplay.
>>726013486you're right it's not really a good game, but the story is, and the atmosphere was unmatched at the time
>>726012532It's very vague. Harry Mason, with her daughter, drove in the fog and ran into a wall of Silent Hill. His daughter ran away and you, as a player, should find her in the town full of monsters and schizos. There are 2 points of view. One of them - it's all drugs. Notes show that in the town there was a network of drug dealers who made a special drug from a flower that grows only here. Dahlia was one of those who sold it. Her daughter Alessa was bullied in school because of her mom, and their home was burned because of that. Alessa died in the hospital, The fog was probably a result of someone burning the fields of those flowers. There was also some parasite that could control people, nurse,s and Sybil were affected, but drugs could help against it.Another point of view is what Dahlia is saying: her daughter didn't die, black mages in the hospital have a secret basement where they tried to fertilize Alessa with satan, and he will be born. Sherry, the stepdaughter of Harry, isn't a real girl, just a shard of Alessa's soul that was sent as a message for help. In the end, you fight with Satan, but 40 bullets do the jobAfter they retconned in favor more mystic interpretation with cults and other bullshit
>>726013607If you can't enjoy it for what it is, you don't deserve it.
>>726013607This is a tank control ""puzzle"" horror game. It doesn't have any fps related logic in it and you can play it with 60fps patch piss easily. I wish they would port the PS1 Spider-Man instead because that is broken af even with 30fps.
>>726013536It doesn't work well, it's 14-17 FPS game, and virtual overclocking doesn't help much
>>726013789>it's 14-17 FPS gameIt's not, but do what you need to do to justify modding the shit out of it to make it "playable"
>>726013738I can enjoy it for what it is, but if I can get in natively on pc instead of emulating it going forward I'll take that.
>it's not a good game blah blah blahIt has competent gameplay, puzzles, and story and it has some of the best art direction, sound design, and music of its gen. It's a great game even if the combat is the weakest part.
>>726013849You're not replying to me (OP) here, I think it's playable the way it is, but a native pc version will always be superior and more convenient, you can make it play and look identical if that's what you prefer.
>>726014023The gameplay is far worse and more janky than Re1 which came out three years earlier. The full 3d enviroments looked way worse than the pre rendered backgrounds at the time. The game ran worse than any re game up to that point and the survival horror aspect was lost when the game gives you an unlimited inventory and metric tons of weapons and ammo. On top of that the story is nonsensical and silly.
>>726014138The fully 3D environments set it apart from RE and made a name for itself, and the story was only nonsensical and silly to people who expected wesker to reveal a bio-mutant to explain everything away before giving you a rocket to shoot it with.Once you've gotten its story, you should try again on a hard difficulty to see why it's survival horror.
>>726013849>It's notDude, who should I trust, me, who spent time on comparison PAL\NTSC version, dig into all possible emulator settings, got 2 softlocks because of PGXP, checked FPS all the time, or some anon from the internet?
>>726014395Then show your comparisons and settings
>>726014395The pc version will solve the pgxp issue too.
>>726013486widescreen crashes the game at certain points. PGXP crashes the game at certain points. 60fps patch speeds up the music. NTSC-U still missing the note. KB+M. mods. no inputlag.

>>726015173right i got shit mixed up. The game still doesn't run a 14-17fps but 30, except maybe in the bus, this area always tanks framerate.

>>726013670SH1 is a damn GREAT game. Literally the best SH and thus the best survival horror. >>726015665You kids only ever watched the shitty SH Movie, didn't you?
>>726021509>silent hill movieWay too long. You couldn't pay me to sit through it. Although it has that lady from the walking dead which i thought was a great choice to play Sybil.
>>726021509>shitty SH MovieSH1 is my favorite game but I liked the SH movie too. It did a lot of things decently even if it wasn't true to the game with things like using SH2 monsters. The only thing I really disliked was the portrayal of Dark Alessa and the infodumping she does. Felt corny and cliche compared to the rest of the movie.
>>726012532just wait the remake like a normal person?
>>726012532played it years ago with the emulator thing port. What advantage would a native port give now as the emulator version ran pretty close to the original without graphic/sound bugs or slow downs
>>726012532The guy on the cover is looking for his daughter, Cheryl.
>>726022941The main advantage of a native PC port would be a rock solid framerate and preservation of an easy to setup and run version of the game.It will also stop retards from running it like pic related.
>>726022941For a basic playthrough you'd probably get higher FPS, faster loading, no more texture wobbling. I would imagine someone might want to mod in an option for non-tank controls. Ship of Harkinian for Ocarina of Time made the game quite a bit more enjoyable to play IMO and added in similar features. Other poster mentioned it but the US version of SH1 is missing an item that explains more of the story. It's not completely necessary but it leaves a bit of a gap with explaining some things that happened. Some people may want to create more custom content which would be easier with a PC port. And I would imagine it would make a virtual reality version easier to do which is something I've been interested in for a while.
>>726023898I'm curious. Would that mean a chance for location mods? Like people expanding on locations or does it never happen?
>>726022817>demakeRope
>>726022941Basically, the pc version will be able to do absolutely everything the most top of the line emulator could do and then some.
>>726026269Slim chance of it but decomp opens it up at least, before this a lot of the games data was unknown and nearly impossible to mod, but with decomp someone who really wanted to could probably get a custom level/cutscenes to work.(one neat thing that came from it is animation formats were finally documented: https://silenthillmuseum.org/?game=sh1)
>>726012532If you're not playing it on the ps1 with a crt tv you didn't play the game
>>726028878That site also gave us the first game-accurate Harry model rip too, other rips of him all had this vertex issue between his legs (pic rel) which wasn't there on PSX
>>726012532I hope its done before the demake comes out,I want to play the real version instead
>>726029386there's probably a newer version, but here.
>>726020863>SH2 is not about the cult>but the SH2 fanbase acts like a cultThat's pretty meta.
>>726013680>>726012532it's UFOs
>>726012532I liked this game a lot better than 2 which I played right after, so it could've been burnout. But I didn't like how much of going from area to area in 2 felt like expositional corridors whereas 1 has a proper overworld. Fucking awesome game.
>>7260322461 and 3 have better gameplay than 2. But even the best Silent Hill gameplay (which is SH1 if you ask me) is worse than the worst classic Resident Evil gameplay (I like all three, but I'd say 1 because it's the most primitive). But SH2 has a story that is better than any RE, while the story of 1 and 3 are worse or equal at best. So SH 1 and 3 are worse in gameplay and worse or equal in story compared to the original RE trilogy. That leaves one game in the SH series that does one thing better than RE.
Talking about Silent Hill, i am a zoomer fuck and I wanted to try either 2 Remake or F. Probably will do both but wonder which one to do first. The main thing against 2 is that i heard is that it has tons of endings, pretty sure I am autistic on this point and I just NEED to have the canon/best one. Does the ending even matter in 2?
>>726035051Play 2 on pc using the enhanced edition mod. It's not that hard. Don't neuter your experience of that games's story by playing the censored poor man's version.
>>726035280The story is literally the fucking same
I played SH1 on emudeck a couple of years ago. It was a great experience, I don't usually go in for horror, but with the PS1 graphics I could handle it. What kept me going were those delicious CGI moments, what a reward.I even managed to get the best ending, I think, through a total fluke. Just doing what felt correct.Good game.
>>726032246Oldfag here.SH1 has always been my favorite. It's the most varied, best paced, actually spooky, and well balanced challenge-wise. It also has the most replay value of the bunch.I had a HUGE crush on SH2 when I was a teenager, but even decades ago I could tell that replaying it was a chore compared to the OG.>>726035051Don't play EITHER ONE of that trash.Seriously, ONLY play the original, Team-Silent made SH games (OG 1-4), in the release order, and ignore ALL the rest. You'll thank me later. Here's the nifty SH PC Guide + Pastebin with all the links and info you'll need:https://pastebin.com/uf5XhyXz>The main thing against 2 is that i heard is that it has tons of endingsEvery single Silent Hill game has multiple endings. Talking about roughly half-a-dozen ends per game.In SH2, the endings tell you more about yourself than anything. There's a fan and dev-favorite that has been dubbed "canon", but I would not worry about that shit.In 1, there's now canon ending(s), but like all classic survival horror games, they're meant to be replayed multiple times, solving more and more of the grander mysteries as you go through. And once again: ignore the shitty polak UE5 de-make, and play the originals.>>7260354011. It's not.2. The delivery, writing, pacing, atmosphere and GAMEPLAY are fucking butchered. It's pretty much an Amazon Prime woke adaptation, that misses the point completely.>>726035492>that kept me going were those delicious CGI moments, what a reward.Yup! Few younger people realize it no more, but getting a juicy FMV was indeed a "reward" back in the day. Not to mention the classic survival-horror gameplay is top comfy, as it never rushes you anywhere, and you always got a lot of time to plan your next move.
>>726013789>it's 14-17 FPS gameWhat the fuck are you even talking about? It works perfectly even on a Thinkpad x230 with 60 fps patch.
I'm playing Silent Hill 2 with the first person camera mod, and It's amazing. I'm surprised how well the game works in first person. I was expecting to run into issues since the devs didn't build this game with first person in mind, but so far it's been a smooth experience. The guy that made this mod also did first person camera mods for Silent Hill 3 & 4, so I'm definitely going to check those out here soon.
>>726036071I assume there is the odd graphic weirdness where they didnt fully model something.
>>726035593What would you say is the optimal difficulty for SH1 for a veteran of the first three RE games? Is hard actually hard but ballanced or is it just scuffed and tedious like SH2's hard mode?
>>726036172Nope. I haven't ran run into any graphical oddities so far. It's actually pretty cool to see these iconic scenes from a different perspective. But to be fully transparent, I'm also using the Silent Hill 2 enhanced mod as well, so that might be the reason why I'm not seeing any graphical bugs.
>>726036238>What would you say is the optimal difficulty for SH1 for a veteran of the first three RE games?I would honestly start with Normal, and see how it goes. Like many 1990s' games, HARD is actually hard. SH games are less about grindy mastery of mechanics than RE, so I wouldn't want to ruin your first run by hitting a wall. Only start on Hard if you WANT to hunt down every ammo box and health drink, run like a maniac, and re-try most bosses 2-4 times.t. Beat classic RE trilogy and SH trilogy's games some 20-50 times, each.
>>726036071You should try the 2 remake with the full VR mod.Shit is fucking insane (and also requires an insane PC). Full head tracking with motion controls. Its the fucking perfect horror game
>>726035051Gameplay wise I do go for 2 Remake first and then F, story wise you can do whatever, thought I find the prospect of newcomers starting with F to be amusing, kinda curious about their experiences with the rest of the series.Regarding the endings of 2, there's no canon because they all end the same, people just misinterpret it. The endings takes your playstyle in consideration for them, so I wouldn't worry about it and just go blind the first time, then look up the requirements to do the others or look them up on youtube if you're a lazy nigger.
>>726036597Ehhhhhhhhhh... I dont know bro. Ill be honest im an old hand at the older games to im autistic enough I did RE3 knife only and SH1 isnt that hard. I beat the game with supplies to spare. SH1 isnt really harder than the other OG survival horror games>>726036238Ill give the opposite. If you beat the OG RE games without much issue then SH1 on hard is perfectly fine. If you did struggle, normal is fine.
>>726036642I don't own a VR headset, so that's not a option for me unless there's a version of the mod that doesn't require a VR setup.
>>726036729I can beat the re games with no issue because I played them a thousand times, I can't remember how well I did the first time I played them. So I dunno. I'l probably try hard because I put a lot of emphasis on playing the game and actally risking losing and dying from time to time, rather than walking simulators.
>>726036172>>726036481Some 20 years ago, there was this website dedicated to SH1-3 camera hack screenshots, where this single based fan kept posting his findings. The amount of detail even in areas you cannot access in the games was staggering. TS really went far beyond what was required; a lot of the finer details you couldn't even SEE at the native 240p on CRT. But we also gotta remember that the OG also did have an unlockable "first person mode".>>726036932SH1 will never be a walking sim.And you are spot on about your first, blind playthrough being a totally different animal than your 100th playthrough. This' something some snobby RE-fans don't seem to ever realize when they keep calling the OG trilogy piss easy.Yeah, SH ain't "hard" if you ask me, but it can be terrifying and demanding none the less. The vibe is totally different from RE.
>>726037294Unfortunately the same can't be said about 2. The more time goes passes the less I believe that the story of it makes up for the lack of enemy variety and the total absence of difficulty, where even streamers beat it on their first playthrough with zero deaths.
>>726037886*time goes by/passes
>>726037886I fuly understand the notion. However, I'm a rare breed of a fan in a sense that I consider 2 to excel at being so fundamentally different sort of game.I might throw shade on modern AAA slop for pampering the players 24/7, but at the same time, not every video game needs to be about some teeth-grinding masochism.Double so when the game happens to be a "sad love story" about diving into someone's nightmarish delusions.I actually kinda like that most people's first Game Over in SH2 is usually shooting Maria by accident.
>>726035593>Don't play EITHER ONE of that trash. Both are great.

>>726013789you probably installed the wrong core, son
>>726013487She effectively IS a god, she just involuntarily created a tulpa that thinks it is a god inside her who have access to her power. The thing is that both of them (the tulpa mostly) operate with cult logic because she was religiously brainwashed and further corrupted because of the suffering, making her fear take over and overwrite the rules and feed that vision to the tulpa, who then takeovers. She mostly likely know by that point it's all bullshit but the tulpa really believes it and wrestle her for control, so she has to play by its rules, that's why Dahlia seems to have powers and do spells. It's basically a game of gaslighting tug of war. The Seal of Metatron works because the tulpa's existence would also be bullshit otherwise, so he allows it (more like believe it), which in turn makes the Flauros also work. So the power split works be creating another tulpa, this time a flesh phantom, and yeet it out of town, making the god tulpa believe it's now powerless (also Alessa wishing for a normal life).Turns out just stalling it feels real fucking bad regardless and tries to figure out how to end it, so either she or the Order, by basically torturing her, calls it back to use her full power to destroy it, by tiptoeing around the rules of course.
stop spoon feeding faggot grifters so they can make a fucking youtube video

>>726037886>the lack of enemy variety and the total absence of difficulty,This. While I love Silent Hill 2 to death, I can't ignore its short comings in these areas. The small number of enemy types was quite surprising to me when i first played Silent Hill 2. While some might argue quality over quantity, I couldn't help to feel that the game was getting dull by the end due to facing the same three enemy types (Lying Figure, Mannequin, and Bubble Head Nurse) over and over again. I feel that Silent Hill 2 would have benefited by introducing a new enemy type in every major location. The game did that at fist with the Lying Figure in the town itself, the Mannequin in the apartment complex, and the Bubble Head Nurse in the hospital. But after the hospital, the game just recycles these three guys for the rest of the game.
>>726043187Heather, of course.
>>726044893There are those guys underneath the grates in the tunnel when you leave the hospital. But you never get a good look at them and I never got hit by them in the half dozen times I beat the game over the years. There is also the abstract daddy's in the hotel but they are just recycled from the boss fight.
>>726035593Thanks, blessed anon!
>>726041723Wow. What complete, unsalvagable, pointlesly convoluded garbage. People think this is somehow less retarded than re's plot.

It just further drives home the point that Silent Hill 2 has a serious enemy variety problem.
>>726012532>uncshitI'll wait for the remake
>>726046195That was my tl;dr btw.You have to posses a strong knowledge of Parapsychology (and a Anomalistic bias), Gnosticism, read Carrie and Phantoms, filtered though a japanese lens to fully grasp it.Most people actually don't get it at all and often gravitates towards the easy to digest and more conventionally presented story of 2 (albeit still not quite getting it, by the insistence of a subtlety component and the humongous volume of essays).Hopefully the remake spark some revision of the fanbase and set things straight on the zeitgeist
>>726012532>Silent Hill 1 is getting a native PC port soon, probably next year.cool>The decompilation is at 55% completeyeah i don't think the decompilation will go that fast to the point they will shat out a port that soon
