Removing those two things alone would make it a better game by forcing you not to spend gorillions of dollars on grinding and meta instead opting either for DLC characters, which would be gay as fuck, or unlocking them in game itself; second mission, for example, would have you get the girl with the Retain mechanic and her squad. It'd also remove the inability to finish a story, outside of EOS of course, and let the game itself hava a singular cohesive storyline planned and written ahead of time.There was another game that did this and it did well: Chrono Ark. Chrono Ark but more StS paint and with DD's madness mechanic would have done quite well.
