>>726020543>Why do zoomers scream, cry, tear off their broccolis, self-mutilate and suicide over Diablo 2?For attention. Like pretty much 99% of what everyone does here - they just want attention being paid to them. Engagement, if you want to use the modern parlance.
I've been trying to play it again. The areas outside of dungeons feel too big with too many basic mob enemies and dealing with them gets boring. I don't think anyone ever really says they like the grasslands/desert/jungle. It makes the game feel slow but it's probably different when playing with a group and I think the game focused more on that. But I liked 1 being a little smaller and more focused with the single dungeon in some ways.I remember it being more fun when playing casually with friends. I'm not sure if it's worth playing outside of that context unless you get really excited about grinding and farming.>>726019234The big focus on loot was an easy way to get players to interact each other more with trading but people started to take it way too seriously. Some of the skills are fun to use.
>>726019234>replace shitty equipment with slightly less shitty equipment * but only every 100th run, because that's how often you will actually see slightly less shitty equipmentdon't make it look better than it is, you shill
>>726020824I meant to say "every 1000th run" forgot a '0' there
>>726020775It was only fun with friends and is basic as can be without multiplayer elements. 90 percent of the skills are noob traps to get people to spend more time trolling because their characters hit a wall. ARPGs in general are knowledge checks more than traditional games.

>>726019856>banner is full of creasesit's literally trannycore to have flags full of folds
>>726020947Yeah the skill system is kind of ass. Ends up rewarding you sometimes for not spending your skill points and saving them up. Synergies were supposed to prevent that supposedly but then it also makes less builds viable too. I was thinking that it would've been better to just have skills unlock as you level up and that would've increased build variety and playstyles.

>greatest online ARPG ever conceived >le redditcoreI really miss when this medium wasn't bogged down by retard zoomers with ignorant opinions.
>>726021170I can factually explain why any good game released in 2000 is wholly superior to 99.9999% of the modern slop. Especially easy to do with a GOAT like Diablo II. But, zoomies will off themselves. And we don't want that. Somebody has to slave off and make us money. My stonks won't go up otherwise.
>>726019234>when a game is reduced to its simplest form in a mocking manner it sounds like shitwaow!! reddit gold sent :)
>>726020951Nope
>>726020775Diablo 2 is very much the birthplace of all modern loot-focused games. The whole point, the whole appeal, is in the skinner-box systems, the satisfaction derived from obtaining semi-randomized loot, the math and the technicalities of how to optimize builds and game the systems to maximize your loot chances. I don't personally see why people enjoy this so much, but I can testify, to some people it's insanely satisfying and addictive, and Diablo 2 mastered it.That is what gave it such a massive and long-lasting appeal. It's what drove much of Blizzard's direction towards MMO RPG's and lootbox models today.I have tons of friends who were obsessive Diablo 2 players, and the only things they ever talked about were literal spreadsheet maths and statistics, economies and builds, loot tables and auctions. So I guess there is a lot to that side of the game. For me, someone who can't give a shit about gambling-adjacent mechanics... the game was really boring even back in 2000. The music was great, the art direction FANTASTIC, for a while it feels like it has great atmosphere, but it takes all but two hours before the fatigue sets in and the whole thing becomes a boring fucking blur of nothingness. But again, I'm really not and never was the target audience.
how do fags manage to hate on good games that are probably older than them is crazy to me
>>726021362Yepe
>>726021362No problem. Name 5 videogames, that are goated in different genres. Different genres is when you don't just always play as a hand holding a block and a weapon or as a cat in Roblox.

>>726021384How did you feel about Diablo 1? I don't really care about loot but I like how it was handled there a bit more. The random loot felt like it altered your playstyle a little bit so each playthrough was never exactly the same. Weapons would have different speeds, different effects, the sorcerer would get different spells. And you usually got decent gear just from doing the quests, I remember pretty often having early game armor still useful near end game.

>>726021982>How did you feel about Diablo 1?To be quite fair, I missed out on Diablo 1 when it was new, 2 was the one that was the big talk when I finally got a PC that can handle more than Apogee's greatest hit shareware collection, and by that time, Diablo 2 made me not give much of a shit about the first game.I did revist it eventually, out of curiosity, and I felt... nothing really. It was boring and I never got too far into it.With that said, the soundtrack from Diablo 1 is on my regular ambient soundtrack rotation since like 2003. The music is absolutely amazing.Looking back at it, I feel like Diablo 1 was born out of genuine desire to make a good "classic" RPG. The story is more focused and bit more prominent, the presentation is fucking stellar for its time, the art direction and music make for some of the best atmosphere I've seen in games.I still feel like the gameplay lets it down. I find it repetetive and boring. But compared to Diablo 2... it feels like Diablo 2 intentionally chased the grind and loot audience, while in Diablo 1, all of that was an unintentional by-product, and the core goal was to make an atmospheric, almost horror-like RPG first and foremost. But again... these are my impressions from someone who has never seen the ending titles in either of these games. There are a lot of people far more qualified to talk about them than I am.
Maybe it was entirely by chance, but I think D2 devs managed to strike a perfect balance when it comes to dynamic itemization.Randomized values somehow stay meaningful without inflation, items found near the beginning of the game can still be useful up to the very end. Couple that with great usability of mods between different character builds and you have a solid system that's hard to imitate. Also important for this type of itemization, perfect mod combinations can be so rare to be completely unobtainable, being one of the factors that fueled gear treadmill for years.
I remember the old times where necro+blood golem+iron maiden made you unkillable
superior game incoming
>>726022508
>>726022449>There are a lot of people far more qualified to talk about them than I am.I played both of them when they were new and have similar opinions. I like some aspects of 1's gameplay, namely the slower pace making positioning more important and that you have to use the environment to your advantage more sometimes. But I dislike tougher fights making you basically just having to return to town to stock up on more potions instead of there being a bit more skill involved. The darker horror aspect is something a lot of people say they wish 2 kept.
>>726022613That pic you posted has a generic shit artstyle that looks like it would be for a mobile gatcha. I hope that's not the game you're talking about because if so you might be mentally retarded?

>>726024447I did play it and it looks like dog water
>>726024014I find D2's gameplay too braindead and mindless, it plays like a top-down musou game the whole game is designed around putting you in a dopamine rush, the constant magical loot drops feel like the game is jingling keys in front of you but having so many of them actually makes good loot worthless1 is just a more methodical and slower experience that respects your intelligence and attention span and you have to use the environment and try different strategies to fight different enemies, especially if you're playing melee
>>726024556It is a top down musou game. People who say its an arpg are retarded

>>726024936Musou version of D2 would be kino
>>726024310You actually have to aim your teleport, aim your spells, react to opponents, play strategicallyimagine thatD2 pvp without enigma doesn't even need you to look at anything but your minimap. Just spam arrows in the direction of the enemy on minimap, because nobody can outmaneuver guided/multi or close the gapif a hammerdin stands still spamming hammers in one spot, someone can teleport into their non-namelocked south blind spot and stomp them. If someone is defensive camping with traps or fire patches you can budge the up by shooting projectiles from a distance. And when both players are teleporting around its a competition between namelock speed clicking, chainlocks, delayed stomps, area denial projectiles, etc
>>726025172>imagine thatthere's no need for that kind of languageI know how it works, I did pvp for a while. I was somewhat decent at it too but it just didn't feel like it had a ton of depth and after a while I stopped and never felt much desire to do it again.>because nobody can outmaneuver guided/multi or close the gapYeah that's a problem and I'm not really sure how to fix something like that. Usually games will alter skills to work differently in pvp and pvm, could've shortened the ranges on them when they were used in pvp maybe.Synergies and Enigma felt like two pretty heavyhanded changes to the game to try and add quick fixes for various things but they introduced their own problems too. It would've been neat if each class had their own kind of movement ability which it seems like they were kind of going for that with sorceress having tp, barb having leap, paladin having charge. But then everyone is just teleporting.
>>726025151Its already a musuo
This is what they took from you.
>>726021327this
>>726022613Not wrong. Grim Dawn the best ARPG on the market, but people will refuse to play it simply because their favorite streamer doesn't.
>>726031667>Grim Dawncan I buy it on GOG or directly on the website with an account? I'm not buying games on Steam.
>>726019160
>>726019234>replace shitty equipment with slightly less shitty equipmentThat's now how any Diablo 2 clone works beyond the first ten minutes where you go from whites to blues to rares. Upgrades are typically big and noticeable because the entire genre is just gambling because equipment is bloated with useless stats. 99.9% of drops are dogshit but the planets align for that 0.1% and it ends up getting good stats in almost every slot and said stats are decently high tiers.
>>726032106Another kino game, somebody should combine D2 itemization and character building with Nioh 2 stance combat with gorillion different tools.
>>726019856Is that Khadgar?
>>726019234The sad reality is that Path of Exile 2's first act on release was probably the best Cookie Clicker RPG ever made, and they immediately tossed it in the trash because "legacy players" want to turn their brain off.

>>726020775>I don't think anyone ever really says they like the grasslands/desert/jungleI unironically enjoyed the open areas more, especially the maggot lair. The jungle is very fun aside from the flayers inflicting random hitstun every few seconds.

>>726023943>an instant gratification gameCan you express this idea without the use of buzzphrases?
>>726035594Many of those games transformed the industry, and what they innovated upon is now a given in all newly released games. If you play NGB today it will be difficult for you to understand how groundbreaking it was back in 2004.
>>726036030that's not a buzzphrase
>>7260359161.12
>>726036107Whatever you say.
>>726030146honestly looking at this i feel like D2 was the game that ruined the ARPG genre. Everything looks fucking retarded, you spam all these items and spells that dont look realistic at all your character attacks like a fucking machine gun and teleports around. Diablo 1 was so much better because the combat while fantastical was also grounded. I liked that game so much more because it felt like dungeons and dragons with the RP, your decisions meant something, tactics meant something. Instead modern ARPGs are just BRRRRR kill all the monsters on the screen 99.9 of everything dropped is complete trash BBRRRRR. The best ARPG Path of exile is so complicated you need 30+ stash tabs and 17 different spreadsheets to figure everything out while saving 20 million different consumables in your inventory for an RNG chance to upgrade you gear so your spread sheet numbers can go up. Why the fuck are games like this now a days. I just want to play the game and have fun and to me that would be more like have the game itself drop collated and tailored loot for your class, make the game scan your build and actually provide you upgrades here and there instead of having a stupid RNG slot machine system where you are grinding the game to get lucky. I mean holy fuck Path of Exile 2 is an amazing game but the fucking grindiness and obscenely retarded loot system makes me not want to play it because it feels more like the game is playing me as I try to get an upgrade but im stuck using an item from act 1 because it has +1 to minon spells + damage to minions and +hp to minions and basically this low level item got perfect rolls on it that the only thing bad about it is the base stats from being a low level base item so my only way to upgrade it is to find a higher level version of the same fucking item. You know what game was never like that was Diablo 1. Diablo 2 was fucking stupid because the good loot was so rare you had to grind something 300 times with MF on.
>>726038027you're not wrong but ARPG genre wasn't really a thing until D2 so saying that it killed the genre is kinda retarded
