It's actually crazy what a company can achieve when it's run by people who give a shit and have a passion
With fewer employees than Nintendo, Xbox, or Meta, Valve released competitors that are objectively better than the switch, Xbox, or quest.
Why can't more companies be like this?

Did it take any other gaming company 30 years to start putting out hardware? They might be multiple decades behind the curve at this point.

Heard their new thing is some sort of games cube like Nintendo did 20 years ago.

It's just a fucking pc.
>>
Only the controller MIGHT be alright, and that's only if Valve don't have a million issues with it like they've had with every other fucking controller they've made.

Frame is an overpriced Quest 3, Machine is an overpriced chink mini PC, and Deck isn't even worth talking about.

Their hardware quality is noticeable worse than Nintendo's and Meta's using the same number of contractors

There's a reason Quest is the undisputed VR leader, go check out steam survey
>>

Does valve actually have fewer employees than nintendo?
>>
I should stop ragging on this gear. I'm just disappointed as I was expecting more.
It'll probably be amazing for a lot of people and they will enjoy it, especially the VR.
>>
>>726023247
To be fair it took Nintendo like 100 years to start making game consoles

VR was a letdown. no OLED screens = dead in the water

I asked about gaming companies not card companies.
This is like ATT making Walk-Mans in 2025.

Anon I have been gaming on my sofa with a controller using a hdmi and my laptop my entire life,it's really not THAT revolutionary.Am consdering it but at least wait for a price and for a few customer reports gee
>>
>>726023440
frame is a universal and free vr headset that is laying a perfect foundation for future vr headsets and the machine will be a consolised entry level pc for the normies
>>

They made playing cards, anon
>>
>>726023567
336 for valve and 8205 for Nintendo
>>
>>726024138
I know, I called them a card company. A card company making gaming hardware isn't unexpected. The tabletop space has been dominated by companies making hardware for their games. Chess and Go both employ it nowadays.
>>
>>726023067
I mean, nintendo still make games.
>>
>>726023067
>Why can't more companies be like this?
Most successful companies are started by passionate people who care about making the best product they can make for their customers. Problem is passion dries up over time, and most companies don't see success before those passionate people have been replaced by people with prestigious credentials but no desire to do anything but make number go up.
Valve is lucky enough to have Steam running along printing money for them, so they don't have to hire "number go up = good" types to secure funding.
>>
>>726024254
A playing card company making video game systems is less unexpected than a video game software company making gaming devices?
>>
>>726023291
valve actually cares about their games and products. they're still subject to this institutional system though.

Can you play Battlefield MP on the Steam Frame? Why not on the Steam Machine?
>>
>>726024849
you can't and it's EAs fault
>>
>>726024849
I dont plan on using the steam frame for non vr games. Games like battlefield and CoD use anti cheating software for their multi-player that doesn't work for Linux which is what the steam machine will run.

>>

>>
>>726025329
The last of the good Battlefield games are over 15 years old and the ostensibly good CoD games are even older. They probably work fine on Linux.
>>
>>726027170
OOTB experience.
You can use put it in your living room and use it as an appliance (a console).
Or put it under your desk and use it as a general purpose PC.

Also less issues with spotty drivers I guess.

steam machine looks really good, wheres the catch?
I've never used steam os but I use linux only for coding, which means I won't have to mess with the OS to do my work? Any price speculations?
>>
>>726034348
>I've never used steam os but I use linux only for coding, which means I won't have to mess with the OS to do my work
What does that even mean?
>Any price speculations?
Valve said it'll be sold at the price of an equivalent PC, so not too cheap probably.
>>
>>726036259
steam os is linux, right fucktard?
I'm asking if I'll be able to do normal linux operations on it, without having to jailbreak the system
>>
>>726033569
>out of the box
>no driver issues

Probably not drivers per se, but just like steam deck it'll have oodles of compatibility hiccups. Not including the games it straight up can't run. Steam os should grow but don't be fooled it doesn't "just work"
>>
>>726036332
Yes, you can drop from the big picture UI to desktop mode any time.
The SteamOS root filesystem is read-only by default though, so you have to "sudo btrfs property set / ro false" if you want to set up pacman.

I meant that the Quest 2 has no stereoscopic 3d passthrough. There's no depth. That's why your hands and everything else looks comically large. With the Quest 3 passthrough, not only does everything look like its proper size, but it also has occlusion, so you can put your hands in front of or behind virtual objects as if they were actually there. This is useful for stuff like porn.
>>
>>726023381
Just like Xbox and PS
Switch is just a fucking tablet
>>
>>726023067
but the steam frame is objectively worse than the quest 3, the only benefit is that you don't need a meta account
>>
>>726039771
They are all computers that cannot be used as general purpose ones unlike the Steam Machine.
A NSW connected to a TV is no different than a PS5 other than from a performance standpoint.
>>
>>726023484
>Quest
kek
lmk when they make an actual good headset without their gay ass meta platform
>>
I have high hopes that the Frame is gonna be relatively cheap by cutting shit that I don't care about like "muh passthrough" and "muh micro-oled". It's like Valve understood that I just want a wireless, non-expensive (hoping), no-account-required VR headset.

Seriously why so many people bitching about the passthrough? Who even uses it? That's like bitching about the 3D on the 3DS being removed. Seems like a cool feature I'd use for exactly 1 second.
>>
>>726036763
The only game I ever had compatibility issues with on linux is Grim Fandango. It was a 1 line fix and even then they made it work out of the box with the most recent mesa update.
>>
>>726023067
>Valve released competitors that are objectively better than the switch, Xbox, or quest.

And its all overpriced and low volume so it doesn't amount to anything.
>>
>>726024062
>vr headset that is laying a perfect foundation for future vr headsets

I want this to be true, but I didn't see PC handhelds shipping with steam OS after the deck. You can install steam OS on other handhelds, but installing steam OS VR on another headset is vastly more work for valve.
>>
>>726027170
Nigger are you retarded. If you're in the steam survey you're already using steam and buying steam games. Steam machine is for people that don't have gaming PCs.
>>
>>726023067
Valve live off your money instead of investor money.
They're not "the good guys", but they're a million of steps ahead of the public capital companies, because they're trying to make YOU spend money, instead of some retarded boomers that don't know shit about the business and just chase buzzwords.

Yes it does, I own one. I see depth and scale through the passthrough. It uses the two bottom passthrough cameras, it looks wonky because they have to apply depth correction because the eye spacing is wrong and there may be some edge distortion going on. I can cover each camera one and a time and still see like covering one eye. If it was only using one camera your external view would be shifted over a few inches to one side, and it would just look like life was a giant black and white theater screen. It would be very noticeable and less useable.
>>
>>726041240
Oh okay. That must be new because I owned one 3 years ago and it didn't have that, good to know.
>>
>>726041332
damn that would suck. I can't believe zuck would ship it in that state but it seems I still think too much of him somehow
>>
OP, you are not a faggot. You are THE faggot. I'm convicted nothing I say will convince you to buy a Switch 2. Just like how you gaslit the world into thinking the Wii U is somehow worse than the wii, you want to gaslight the world into thinking the Switch 2 is bad because you can't afford food, shelter, shota porn, and clothing while also affording a Switch 2, and you can't get a job because gooning exclusively to prepubescent boys 24/7 won't sound good on a resume. So you leave me no choice but to shake the dust off my feet and give you over to a depraved mind.
