Some of the stuff around The Gardener screams "rewrites". For example, remember how Willem talks about how he had to create chaos in the court by disappearing, so "he could strike". But The Gardener doesn't strike anyone. It seems to me that originally The Gardener was a different character or played a different role in the story, although the idea of him being a Malkavian that spoke to people in dreams seems to have always been a thing.

The Willem scene came from really early in development. Versions of this go back to mid-ish-2023 with very few differences. It's not super clear how the story worked originally. Lou saying things like, "I will wait for you" in the reveal trailer are hard to parse in the context of what the plot became.

The writer left in 2023, and his story was partially rewritten, and part of the rewrite was turning Fabien into a Malkavian which had a series of ripple effects on the game.

They didn't have the money for some of the changes they wanted to make, so they had to utilize existing content and paste the new story over it as best as they could.

Interesting interview.
>We used to sit there and go and have these planning sessions of how do we get them to not call it Bloodlines 2. That feels like the most important thing we do here is to come at this and say this isn't Bloodlines 2. You can't make Bloodlines 2. There's not enough time. There's not enough money. And Bloodlines 1 came out at a really interesting period in game development when it was the same time as games like Stalker and Shenmue when you could ship a really ambitious game that was full of bugs and holes, was totally flawed, but the ambition was really exciting.
>A lot of those games, they're real cult games now, but they really weren't very good when you actually broke them apart and analyzed them. Great ideas, wonderful ideas, players loved them. You couldn't get away with it now. So trying to recreate that magic in a different environment felt wrongheaded. No one would be happy. You wouldn't make people who love Bloodlines 1 happy and you wouldn't make people who didn't know about Bloodlines 1 happy because they'd never get Bloodlines 2 and they'd always get a flawed game that was built too fast and with not enough money.
>So we kind of approached it from that point of view really of going well what can we do with the time and the money that's available and at that point what actually pitched weirdly was kind of which you'll probably make I mean the psychic scream of Bloodlines 1 players from across the net but I came in and went "We can't make Bloodlines 2, we can't make Skyrim, but we can make Dishonored." And if we kinda look at something which is NOT an RPG and is NOT fully open world, but is really tightly focused and true to the mythos, and it's a good ride, we get a Bloodlines title out in the world, and then we'd started talking about saying, then what would the next big Bloodlines game look like after that, if that happened?

Yea, because it was 2004 and it had potato graphics. Why do you think Gears of War went from costing 12 million to costing 100 million? Why do you think Dishonored went from costing 25 million in the first game to over 100 million for the second game? AAA game development is extremely expensive and time consuming.

So Patch 1.05 is coming in a few weeks with FOV and motion blur and stuff, and probably more bug fixes. The we have the Christmas update, then we have the Valentine's Day update. So in amongst those they are going to improve some aspects of this game. We don't know exactly what, but they are working on improving the game and have been doing so since launch. Maybe even before launch. I hope they can reshape it into more of a vampire Dishonored game because that's clearly what they wanted to make.

The FOV and motion blur stuff was low priority because it primarily affects PC users. They're looking at more low level design changes like reworking the stealth and combat so that you can complete most of the game without fighting. That's something a minority of players want, but it has its appeal.

No, you misunderstand. They added an auto-save when you exit the game to the most recent patch. There is ANOTHER patch coming in about 2 weeks that has as yet undisclosed changes to how saves work. Adding an auto-save on exit was just a stop-gap measure to fix the issue of the game not saving people's progress doing chores in the hub.

The Gardener isn't really the one behind the plan. That's Safia cooking that bullshit up. Except originally, she was a slightly different character called Cemile who had a different motivation. This is the problem. All the stuff with Gideon is a rewrite. Originally Fabien was a thinblood character with no connection to any of the major players. The whole Gideon and Safia and Lou thing is a rewrite. Of course some aspect of it was probably still true because the marks were still on your body. Fabien was trapped inside you and the idea was probably that the marks were designed to trap someone's soul. So that part still makes sense.

But the problem is that "The Gardener" comes out of fucking nowhere story-wise. His name appears for the first time in Willem's quest, and then suddenly he's the center of the story. Remember all Gideon scenes are flashbacks created when Fabien was turned into a Malk. Those scenes didn't exist originally. The scene where you confront Willem and the scene where you confront Ysabella originally happened on the same night. They changed the dialogue to remove "earlier tonight a kindred named Ysabella used this mark to..." I think that the game really asspulls the explanation of why Ysabella can use your mark. I feel like it had to be something else originally.

Also, remember, all the dream sequences in the garden as Fabien? Those were added later because, critically, Fabien was not playable originally.

Paradox do care to a certain degree because VTMB2 is the flagship of the WoD brand. They're trying to project confidence.

>The teams over at TCR and Paradox have been hard at work ironing out bugs and creating more content, and while we continue to work on that, we’re happy to share today’s patch that fixes the “Save on Exit to Main Menu or Quit Game” issue!
>We’re also thrilled to announce the upcoming Roadmap of what we’ve got planned for the game. As you can see, there’s no slowing us down; we have listened to the feedback you’ve been kind enough to share with us and are building many of those improvements into the following patch updates.
>Soon we’ll update the game with Patch 1.0.5, which will include the requested FOV slider and Motion Blur Toggle, as well as Improved Progress Saving.
>Then, around the holiday, we’ll give you another Update, this one Christmas-themed! Make Phyre your own little Santa’s helper, or perhaps not so helpful helper. This update will also include the “Custom Difficulty” mode, which will consist of settings like “Starting Health,” “Masquerade Sensitivity,” “Enemy Awareness,” and an option to choose between playing only the Phyre quests or only the Fabien quests. The “Custom Difficulty” mode will be unlocked when you have completed the game, so think of it as our version of New Game+.

>This is probably referring to the Benny DLC, but it's written in a way that could imply they have new story content they're hastily developing to jam into the game by Christmas.
They're fucking retarded for making MORE content that doesn't even include Phyre. Unbelievably fucking stupid DLC ideas. Dumb fucks!
>>
>>726035527
Buy the game, faggot.
>>
>>726035638
They're letting you skip alll the Phyre sections if you just want to play as Fabien.
>>
>>726033425
>That's why the director told Paradox flat-out that they couldn't call the game Bloodlines 2 because the game they could deliver with the money Paradox were offering would not live up to fan expectations.
It's not about budget, it's about all their ideas being fucking stupid as hell!
>>
>>726035638
Fabien's sections were recycled Malk story DLC stuff. The bigger issue was rewriting the entire plot around Fabien so that every single plot point and character involves him in some way. That was more intensive.
>>
>>726035764
What ideas?
>>
>>726028890
>Paradox were offering an extremely low budget for Bloodlines 2. It's why Sumo passed. The Chinese Room was massively understaffed even before the multiple waves of layoffs. Pinchbeck said he got burned out working on 4 games at the same time, among other things.
Okay, and what does that have to do with all their other gay faggot decisions, huh? Like maliciously keeping the player from fucking Lou, the poster girl of the game. Or Safia always fucking dying so you can't get with her either. Or any fucking attractive woman. What are your choices? An old ugly wrinkled granny, a black girlboss that explicitly stated to dominate YOU like a little bitch, and a titless theythem nonbinary freak. Fuck you!
>>
>>726035858
>Clowning on straight men with this garbage >>726035986
>The retarde fucking Fabien shit they spent all their "limited" time and budget on only to MAKE SKIPPABLE IN A PATCH SINCE NOBODY FUCKING WANTS IT IMAGINE THAT WHO COULDA THUNK IT
>Tolly
>>
>>726035986
The sex scenes we do have were clearly added suuuuper late in development, and only involve clan contacts. They just didn't have the budget for the kind of romance system they wanted to have. It's possible they'll patch something more extensive into the game for Valentine's Day. So many things in the game are just compromises because no money.
>>
>>726036080
Fabien is the most beloved character in the game, and the new poster child for Malks, so I think that aspect of the game worked very well. The original Fabien tested badly. Fabien and Phyre are going to be skippable. They're fully aware that they made two completely different games and glued them together. That Fabien fans hate playing as Phyre, and Phyre fans hate playing as Fabien.

Also, Tolly is based.
>>
>>726036118
>garbage roster
>it's because they didn't have money
Why are you constantly dancing around the point? I fucking bet you behind the scenes it's another case of "male gaze is icky so take that!" Stop being disingenuous, man. For fuck's sake.
>>
>>726036236
Gaybian is shit and you’re going to be laid off in a few weeks.
>>
>>726036118
>sex scenes
There are none
Fade to black is not a sex scene
>>
>>726036871
They had to censor the fades to black to pass ratings boards globally. Some of the sex noises were too explicit.
>>
>>726036236
The game fucking sucks. Stop posting. Tolly stinks. He doesn't even sound like a nossie, his VA is just a fag talking in his normal voice. Fabien is fucking boring, his story goes nowhere.
>>
>>726036253
The game didn't have sex originally. It was added late in dev. Choices ofmsex partners were lockee into the list of clan contacts.
>>
>>726037040
Nosferatu don't sound like anything. This isn't VTMB1. There is no raspy gravel Nossie voice. Fabien's story is everything.
>>
>>726037003
Yet somehow they had to let you know that the black kween doms you, huh?
>>
>>726037089
Clan contacts are literally the only NPCs you can interact with at-will. Everyone else disappears after their designated shitty story cutscene or is locked behind a door.
>>
Anyone remember what that pilpul technique is called where you answer a direct question with facts that don't really address it at all?
e.g. answering "why didn't they add sex scenes for the only hot woman?" with "sex scenes were added for the clan contacts"
>>
>>726037238
I don't but I'll just go ahead and call it gay, because it's gay and lame.
>>
>>726037003
You have to be baiting. Cyberpunk and VTM:B 2 have the same ESRB rating and Cyberpunk actually has explicit sex scenes with customizable cock and pussy.
>>
>>726037185
>gaybiens story is everything
This tells me this is some degraded retard from the chinkroom since that faggot is their poochie.

>>

>>
>>726037540
>>726037003
This level of autism to where you will just make up lies to keep up this image of "wasted potential" on this game is sad to watch. KOTOR 2 might be more your speed, at least that game was actually good despite it's clearly unfinished state.
>>
>>726026607
>there's not enough time or money
wasn't the game stuck in development for 5+ years and underwent multiple complete rewrites and had the gameplay itself overhauled at one point? a dev crying about time and/or money isn't truly passionate about the project and is just passionate about it paying as much as possible while taking the maximum amount of time. I'm glad people like this are being driven from the industry.
>>
>>726038284
They literally delayed the game just to write more dialogue for their discount Johnny Silverhand.
>>
>>726038284
Other than art, the two versions of the game have nothing in common so nothing else was gained from all that work. TCR's payments were lower than Hardsuit's and Paradox said as much in one of their financial statements from years back.
>>
>>726038563
>Other than art, the two versions of the game have nothing in common so nothing else was gained from all that work.
And whose fucking fault is that?
>We have no time and no money. Instead of building on the work we inherited, let's start over!
DURRRRRR HURRRRR MAGURRRR
>>
>>726037185
>This isn't VTMB1
Don't worry, you didn't have to clarify that for anyone. And there is precedence in VtM lore for Nosferatu having twisted voices because, you know, it deforms their entire body, not just outwardly. Deformities make people IRL talk weird too.
>>
>>726038698
Hardsuit's, for being unable to produce a shippable game after five years and Paradox for being hands-off for years and letting that happen instead of paying attention to their inability to meet the agreed-upon milestones.
>We have no time and no money. Instead of building on the work we inherited, let's start over!
Not possible. Back in 2021 there was a game dev who explained exactly how this would turn out. https://www.tumblr.com/askagamedev/644203572507082752/a-bunch-of-you-have-questions-about-project
>Let me be clear here - (this iteration of) VampTheMBlood2 has been cancelled. The current completed work on the project is effectively abandoned; there is very little chance that another studio will be brought in to pick up where Hardsuit Labs left off. Projects of this scope are enormous endeavors with a huge amount of institutional knowledge. Only the current team of developers know how the things they built work. Any new developer who obtains the old project assets and code would have to spend months, possibly years, trying to piece things together - much like archaeologists try to figure out how ancient civilizations did things.

>By removing Hardsuit Labs from the project, Paradox is removing all people who know anything about how the project works. If the current project were salvageable, it would (in a worst case scenario) be something similar to what happened with the Kerbal Space Program 2, where the publisher cancelled the contract with the developer studio and hired many individual dev team members from the former studio to continue work on the project. That institutional knowledge of how things work is invaluable if the same project code and assets are to be used. This is clearly not the case with VampTheMBlood2. Paradox is ok with dumping the work done and starting over.
>>
What I find most interesting about the story in Vampire: the Masquerade - Bloodlines 2, is the complexity of things that are being shoved up the character's asses. Snowballs (the winter theme ties heavily into this), soda bottles, eggs, cocks (both fake and real), it's just deep intricate layers and I never know what the next thing is that will be going up someone's ass.
>>
>>726032702
>released before W5
It's an absolutely forgettable game that barely uses the Werewolf license.
>>
>>726033580
problem with swansong is it came so close to being great. I can tolerate pretty high level of jank, but some idiotic design decisions are inexcusable.
>>
>>726032702
>What are some other WoD games that aren't fucking VNs?
lack of interest. I doubt paradox is too restrictive with the license considering what's out there.
>>
>>726039650
>Any new developer who obtains the old project assets and code would have to spend months, possibly years, trying to piece things together
So instead they spent YEARS on nothing but adding the Fabien shit... which they're now making skippable in a patch! LOL!
>>
>>726040013
They made the entire game as it is, and you'll only be able to skip Fabien after you complete it once. His parts are necessary to complete to understand the story, but since there's no variation, it's no problem to just skip it on a replay when you just want to try out a different build, you already know the story.

all that statement does is confirm hardsuit outsourced the majority of their work so they weren't able to hand it off to a new team because they themselves didn't know how it all worked together.
