I've played every metroid, most more than once with Super and Prime 2 being among the best, and yet for some reason the chud man doesn't bother me. His writing seems fine because he's a dorky nerd making the stupid quips. It's when the heroes, the "cool" characters making the stupid quips that it annoys me.To me, isolating alien environments don't really depend on the actual number of people in the room, otherwise every game where the player is alone with enemies would be le isolating and scary. What makes the atmosphere work is the art direction and level design, and a sense of vulnerability. Dread was good, but it was too linear and too bright. Prime 3 is way too connected thanks to the ship that you never really feel like you're far from the familiar either.Not to say that I like having an NPC direct me to points of interest all the time. But how constant a presence it is is something we don't know about. It's clear from the trailer that none of the NPCs are with you for long, and the other Primes make sure you don't miss the save room either, usually by forcing you through a room that contains one, or flagrantly with pic related that doesn't even allow you to progress until you do so. Go watch a Prime 3 longplay to see an HOUR LONG cinematic tutorial handholding full of NPCs you're forced to deal with. One single NPC who suggests you check out the save station... it could be much worse.
