Adding a central desert that you have to cross to go between each zone is dogshit level design. Metroid used to have this intricate web of inter connectivity between its areas which now is gone because the devs couldn't be bothered to think so they went with the shittiest option possible a flat circle with a bunch of branches that lead to dead ends.
I will never understand Nintendo's obsession with having some gay NPCs constantly talk to you and guide you to everything. Not even children enjoy that. The most successful game of the past decade or so is Minecraft. You basically just do whatever you want there. Where does this idea come from that you need as much NPC dialogue as possible?
