You will have a character talking to you almost everytime like Russell in Half-Life Alyx
>>
The general died on /vg/. Half life isn't a sustainable brand anymore.
>>
>>726029425
They need to wait until VR somehow solves the motion sickness problem and it actually enters the mainstream. After Alyx, any third Half Life that wasn't VR centered would feel underwhelming.
>>
>>726029604
is that even possible? motion sickness has to do with inaccessible parts of the body. I guess omnidirectional treadmills could help but you're still not putting any lateral G force on your body.
>>
Or Alyx in HL2.
>>
>>726029917
I don't doubt we'll one day have pharma companies producing pills for cybersickness but VR has already gotten much better since its inception at reducing motion sickness. When I first tried it out five years ago I couldn't play more than fifteen minutes without having to stop and take a break from nausea but now it's closer to an hour.
>>
>>726029025
just what I wanted, a nagging female in my ear telling me what to do
>>
>>726030228
Worked for Halo
The games that didn't have it didn't sell well
>>
>>726029604
>solves the motion sickness problem
this is not a real problem, you do not get motion sickness from vr you get simulation sickness which is all mental. it only effects people with undeveloped amygdalas who arent fully conscious and just act on impulses and stimuli, basically their underdeveloped brains get overwhelmed matrix style and they think they really are in game and when things dont line up exactly 1:1 with their other senses their brains short circuit

reminded that people cried about 3d games giving them motion sickness back in the day and if devs would have listened we would have been stuck with point and click adventures to this day (yes people complained about 2d sonic giving them motion sickness too)
subhuman cattle who cant take control of their consciousness need to be left behind
>>
>>726029604
alyx was cool but i literally just want a conclusion to the story i don't really care if hl3 pushes the medium forward or not
>>
>>726029604
VR isn't going to enter the mainstream unless Valve does more with it. People aren't interested in the Quest even though it's ridiculously cheap and being sold at a loss, meanwhile the Steam Frame is largely a sidegrade to the Quest 3 but is probably going to cost around $800. HL3 could be the greatest game of all time and it still wouldn't be worth 800 bucks if it's the only game you're getting; there needs to be an entire library of non-indie VR games to justify that cost. Meta is trying to do this, but their exclusives all suck since (a) they have to run on standalone hardware and (b) Meta doesn't have any good game devs. Valve should be using their billions of dollars to pump out AAA PCVR titles instead of shit like Deadlock or Underlords. Buy up promising VR studios like they did with Campo Santo if that's what it takes.
>>
>>726029025
will hl3 be the mp4 of steam?
>>
>>726029025
They'll bring back Barney and turn him into Russel 2.0

>HURR DURR BUT LE STORY AND LE QUIRKY DIALOGUE
you know what was so funny about half-life 1? the screaming scientists that looked like south park Canadians while they run around in panic when hurt or crash down elevator shafts. that shit was fucking hilarious.
>mom says it's my little sis' turn on the computer
>have to start half-life for her
>start a new game for her
>give her godmode and all weapons
>watch her torture scientists for an hour while having the time of her life
what should be a horrible scenario of suffering, torture and death was making us kids die from laughter. and the game itself had lots of moments where you find and watch scientists die.
btw, NONE of these moments where in half-life 2. THAT game start with the retarded quirks and trying to be relatable while everything looked like a Slavic shithole. gone where the mysterious science facilities, gone where the iconic scientists.
half-life was over before it even started, and half-life 2 is to blame.

Motion sickness goes away after a week of play, forever, devs put a lot of options to reduce it already, nothing else that they can do

The first few times i used it i got motion sickness. I pushed through and got use to it and havent had an issue since

There is no half life 3
>>
I don't want a halflife 3

It wouldn't be the same. Half of these idiots nostalgia for Hl2 came from the team deathmatch servers and that will neither be as fun nor have the same vibes as 2006.

I'm not shitposting when I say this either. It's better for valves legacy to just let Gaben die without a halflife 3. If half life 3 flops that could end Valves perception as a company.

They're walking a very dangerous territory. A half life 3 flops might lead to them breaking up steam as a monopoly.

Sort of, at least wheatley suffocating you served a role with how he was revealed to be designed to be retarded and how it builds up the final battle with him, HL never benefitted from this at all.

Half-Life 2's legacy in the mindset of peopel is built on the success of Garry's Mod, which itself is built off the platform of Half-Life 2. And that's the thing about Half-Life 2 (and 1), it was more of a platform for mods that kept its longevity afloat all these years. Because the greatest parts of HL2 aren't the gunplay (which is mediocre) or the story, it's the ambience, atmosphere, and settings. It's why Doom 3 never had an actual mod scene, even though all the tools were there like all prior ID iterations.
And that's really the only reason why I wanted a new Half-Life 3, is for a revival of a Gmod2 and other conversion mods. Something to finally give Source 2 the modding community it has needed and lacked over the past 10 years.

Yeah this is what killed Portal 2's writing for me. Portal 1 was already dipping its toes into that obnoxious "randumb" humor that was cultivating in the mid-late 2000's, but Portal 2 is part of that era when it hit its peak

>it was dark, serious and laborious
Posthuman was a leaked pitch for Half-Life 3 that was so ass at being grimdark that it was believed to be a hoax at the time. I could easily see some of the Valve writers wanting to be serious after Portal 2 and TF2 but they mistake serious for ultra gritty.

>>726030228
Alyx in HL2 and episodes alleviates everything the testers complained about without being particularly annoying. She makes it so you're travelling with someone a lot of the time, she's useful and doesn't do dumb quippy bullshit.
Its been a lot of years since then and millenial writing is truly horrible, so I don't know if they'll manage to capture that feeling again, but the precedent is there for it working.

When he wasn't around, Glados was running her mouth.
When Glados wasn't around, you had wacky lolrandumxD Cave in the ass-end forgotten depths of Old Aperture.
Portal 2 did not shut the fuck up.
>>
>>726037315
That's because you're a blind cumguzzling fanboy who believes that Valve can do no wrong. If you can't distinguish bad writing because it came from a game that your favorite company that you worship made, then you can't think rationally.
>>
>>726029025
They hired the firewatch developers just to get the writer who did a similar buddy-over-the-radio type story. I fear that's all that guy knows how to write and it's just going to become a crutch. He also sperged out at pewdiepie when he said nigger on the bridge. I don't like the guy because he's either a drama queen or a virtue signaler faking indignance.
>>
>>726030082
dramamine, you can buy it at pharmacies and gas stations. No one talks about it , I don't know why
>>
>>726037163
I've been curious about this myself.
Its like the last 15 years has caused every fucking adult in the world to reduce their media tastes to that of 10 year olds. Nothing can have serious consequences, you can't go more than 5 minutes with a serious tone without it being broken up by some ironic humor. God forbid a character die. Hell, even right here on /v/ you had a toddler tier reaction to things like Edgerunner's ending or Cyberpunk's endings in general.
I understand that people like escapism and don't want bad things to enter their carefully constructed fantasylands sometimes. But sometimes a bit of darkness makes the light shine all the better, yet people refuse to even entertain it for a second these days.

Nah, I dont really like valve games all that much, besides portal 1+2 and TF2 I dont rate them that highly. The population will just turn over out of motion sickness. Old people stop playing games and die off. So many kids either have a quest or have quest experience, gorilla tag isn't a problem for them. In the future VR sickness will sound just as stupid as FPS sickness.
>>
I don't want Half-Life 3. I want Artifact.

Valve screwed over the Artifact fanbase by cancelling the Artifact 2.0 beta without even allowing users to invite friends like they said they would in January 2021 and does not deserve your financial support for these gross consumer-unfriendly practices.
>>
>>726029025
ahh yes, the thing I detested most about HL:A, the quirky reddit Marvel writing.
Don't get me wrong, HL and HL2 + episodes have some pretty awkward attempts at dialogue at times, but it felt fairly natural and matched the tone of the game and world.

Now, no matter the rest of HL3's quality, it will be reddit-core with constant handholding gibbering in your ear the entire time, and Gordon might even get dialogue (OR even worse, be stated in universe to be some sort of disabled mute man or some other gay shit)

Feeling of loneliness is what sold me on Half-Life in the first place. Episodes are my least favorite because Alyx is tied at your hip the entire time. Wether HL3 will be God of War levels of fucking annoying support NPCs that spell everything out for you or have a support team akin to Eternal Strands or MGS or nothing at all remains to be seen. Until then I await all the indie Half-Likes and endless mods to fill my satisfaction. What Valve does with their games is their business, so is my decision to skip it. It's been 18 years and I will always have HL1+2.

Adaca was awesome so there is hope for indie games.

Portal 1 worked because Glados was a monotone voice with short quips here and there before and after each stage. However it never really pushed the 'le wacky' humor too far even with the building payoff. It was only after it came out, and once said payoff became obnoxiously overused by certain crowds due to the burgeoning stated 'le wacky' humor that became very prevalent on the internet in 2008-2010 that the writers for Portal 2 ramped up the wackiness to such a degree that it became as overtly loud and obnoxious as the fags who overused 'the cake is a lie' quip.
Portal 2 really feels like that Valve completely misunderstood why Portal 1 worked.
Pic related: 14 years later and still fucking true regarding humor and how redditoids view it
>>
>>726029025
>Half-Life 3 got Metroid Prime 4'd just days after the latter

Oof.
>>
>>726040107
Portal didn't push the humor too far because it was a short experimental game they weren't sure if people would like, but it was always a straight-up 'le wacky' comedy. There's not a single moment in 1 that's played straight; the only reason it feels less over-the-top is simply because they didn't have the budget for anything more than the GLaDOS quips. It's no surprise that the larger-scale big-budget sequel dialed up the humor since, you know, it was a sequel to a comedy! Hell, 2's Caroline subplot is more serious than anything in 1, even if it's largely delivered through Cave's wackiness.
>>
>>726029025
That’s retarded, no chatterbox side kicks.
>>
>>726029025
While that interview is worrying, Alyx for the most part was a good time, writing and dialouge included.
The only time that Marvel writing did go too far was the NPC introducing Jeff. I thought this was the one level the tone should've taken a hard shift from beggining to end. Thankfully the fag really only appears like three times for a total of like one minute and the rest of the level was pure kino, but with how morbid that section was it felt weird having another charatcer doing quips.

That said, none of this matters cause I still don't believe HL3 is happening.
>>
>>726029025
Its going to be reddit humor: the game like Portal 2 was

Motion sickness is unironically a skill issue. Its not something devs can realistically fix without gimping their game (teleport movement) or specialized hardware (treadmill).
>>
>>726029604
Playing the game sitting down stopped the motion sickness for me.
>>
>>726037562
Normalfags aren't interested in virtual fucking reality, nerds are, you know who nerds fucking hate? Facebook for over a decade, Zuckerberg could pay people to take his headsets and sizeable number of gamers would refuse, that's why VR has been stagnant you have no choice but to get zucced or buy an out of date headset
Zucc tried to monopolise VR in its infancy and nearly smothered the baby to death and nerds hold grudges, there's guys here who have grudges against EA for killing a studio 20 years ago, you think that guy is going to give Zucc his money so Zucc can spy on him? No, never
And the fact is there is no wireless headset that does not require an account and collects telemetry, so zucc or china pick who you would rather have watch you gooning to futanari catgirls slapping your face with their cocks
Steam Frame changes that and I trust that Gabe is not going to record your bedroom and upload the video to steams servers like facebook does

>>726037829
yeah i remember in 2011 when we all talked about how much portal 2 sucked and the writing was just awful! except no one did or cared and the only thing anyone complained about was that it was too short for a $50 game and was otherwise good.
you're being a faggot and getting mad at a 14 year old game because it had a moderate amount of tropes that became everpresent and annoying several years later. if i didn't know better i'd think you only played it recently, because there's no other reason you'd get so mad about it.
no one, not a single person on earth, gives portal 2 a pass for doing things they otherwise wouldn't like because it's a valve game. they give it a pass because it's a minor element of an overall high quality game.
