same with me in 1, I tried to go melee but unless you litteraly spec yourself perfectly it will always be inferior to guns until you get dlc weapons at which point you already cleared 70% of the game

Melee's hard, but doable - lack of dodge really hurts it, so kiting and good blocking's king. Get Duelist, and the grip mod on a baton/trip blade that gives 50% DR to everything when blocking. The block timings are super generous, and DR caps at 80%, so you don't need to go nuts over stacking it while enemies get stunned by Duelist.

Also, enemies can get in the way of ranged attacks, so make sure to kite till you're covered from fuckers taking potshots. Mines are great when you're swarmed, too - there's an armour that drops one every time you get hit or something, and you can stack mines for bosses too (you miss out on XP that way though).

depends what game we are talking about right now
ironcaly new vegas is the easiest game to pull a melee build off because of vats and how easy it is to slap your combatants weapon off his hands

fallout 4 has redicoulus perk synergies with fast melee weapons like the chain saw that apply debuffs on hit in complete disregard of how fast your hitrate actualy is so you just stunlock everyone to death

in 1 and 2 it takes a long time till you actualy get to the good melee weapons, in the early game you just have to deal with lower hitrates with trained melee weapons than untrained firearms

and in outer worlds?
kinda the same as in 1 and 2 in some way, all melee weapons that are worth anything are locked behind dlc, exept there is a gimick build that you can use arround the science hammer, by basicaly becoming an idiot savant and bump everything into 2-handed and science since the hammer scales from that, get the hammer instantly from the hidden room on the ground breaker once you repair your ship and then vaporise everyone with elemental damage, you can combine that with sneak attacks as well
dont forget to constantly take drugs as well
