Most people always recommended Saya no Uta or Katawa Shoujo as the first ones back when I started and those are more easily digestible. You probably wouldn't notice a lot of things Muramasa does if it's your first VN, like the prologue trying to bait you into thinking it's a shonen story or the heroine routes depending on who has your lowest affection instead of the highest. I highly recommend finishing it at some point, it's really great.

Kageaki also shoots off a ton of back to back railguns with no explanation as to where he's getting the calories from, which after reading like 70 hours of how the calories and whatever are a massive limiting factor felt weird to me.I also had a more minor problem with them fucking up the philosophy, especially at the very end with what feels to me to be a bizarre choice regarding the mercenary island after what happened the entire novel, but I don't fault works for messing that up because that's pretty much universal. All of this is to say that even though I really like Muramasa in spite of the above, Steins;Gate offers a more consistently solid experience with no obvious low points like I've mentioned above.
