The industry massively ballooned in size since then. Rockstar was a small company by comparison. Their battle against censorship back then was a calculated risk that earned them a foothold in the industry. Same with other previously beloved companies like Valve. Their commitment to putting out lots of quality games and making Steam really convenient to use was all in service of growing their brand. These companies today don't need to take risks like this anymore. They sell based on their brand alone and the products they already have out are still raking in millions. It's better for them business-wise to play it safe and not innovate or take risks. It's why Valve doesn't make big new games anymore. It's why Rockstar is never going to be controversial again and will absolutely cave under the pressure if they ever had another Jack Thompson on them. There's too much money on the line for that.

>>726033005I've just had the same experience about a month ago, I replayed the PS2 version of Bully for the first time in years, had a ton of fun and 100% completed it.I've noticed whenever I think I'm losing my spark for vidya, I just play or replay an older game and I find myself having a good time again. I'm not saying nothing good at all releases anymore, it's just very rare now, I'll enjoy a new release from time to time but it is few and far between.I'm currently replaying the old Resident Evil games while I wait for RE9, I really hope that game doesn't disappoint.>inb4 "You're just old", I'm 26.
