Explain to me why p2w is bad without being emotionalWhy should social status be equalized in a video game?
*farts*
The people paying to win are the emotional ones. They can't handle reality where they'll never be good at a childrens game so they have to dump money into it to stroke their own egos.
p2w is self defeating. the motivation for paying is so you can dab on poors who can't pay. but poors don't like this and will get mad and leave your game. so now you just have a bunch of p2w fags on equal footing again which defeats the purpose of paying to win so the paypigs will leave the game as well
>>726033450Name a single p2w game that would be good if it wasn't p2wThey aren't bad because they're p2w, they're just bad
paying money is not gameplaymonetization is not game design
>>726033450>Explain to me why p2w is badYou need to play a second irrelevant game to obtain that "p". Worse is if you don't even need that second game and with "p" being easy the game is just retarded babby mode to take money from your retarded ass
>>726033450Life is already P2W. Why would I want that in my vidya, dumb frogposter? The fact that every single P2W game is either dead or at the brink of death is proof that nobody likes that shit.
>>726033450it's more fun to become more powerful in a game due to playing the game rather than actions taken outside of the game
>>726033450P2W is something that gives people things they haven't earned because they bought it. The playing field is tilted down towards the players who aren't spending money.Bear in mind, this isn't a "wahh, people have money" post. I'm a dolphin in a lot of games with cosmetics. The problem is that it's not fair in the way we've grown accustomed to games being. If the bottom of your playerbase is subject to RNG that's biased heavily towards low tier items, the top 10% shouldn't be able to buy their way into a guaranteed top tier item.Selling non-mechanical crap in games is fine in my opinion, and if I like it, I may purchase it. When mechanical items are sold, it biases everything in favor of dolphins and whales. On top of that, nearly every game with these mechanics either implemented them late and turned to shit, or they were built around these mechanics and were shit from the get go. There's no good game with P2W mechanics.
Do they even make P2W games anymore? Who the hell would even play that? Modern free-to-play games all monetize through cosmetics
>>726038816mobile is still littered with them
>>726033450Wasn't there a saying about a fool and his money? If I could just remember how it went....
>>726033450>social statusIf you spend $1000 on some nice clothes and a fancy wristwatch, everyone will think you're classy and women will want to have sex with you. If you spend $1000 on a single video game, everyone will think you're a fucking loser and women will be repulsed by the thought of you. What are you "winning", exactly?
>>726038816There are constant shill threads for gacha games, which are all P2W by nature.>gaming is healing because you can pay $30 for a chance to loot a 5 star legendary version of this PG-13 jpegIf you're not aware of the history, "gacha" comes from "gachapon," which refers to a type of vending machine in Japan where you pay for opaque egg containers that may contain a good prize or may contain a shitty one. People collect the shit out of them, so they hunt for specific items to fill their collections.
>>726033450Because it leads to playerbase stagnation as those not paying for the top spots give up and it becomes a fight on who can spend the most money instead of who's actually better at the game.
>>726033450The game is usually barely fun by design, its player retention is almost entirely based on sunk cost and ritualized behavior, and its ongoing maintenance needs to be subsidized entirely by small transactions by a small section of the playerbase or large transactions by an even smaller section of it.Compare this to a basic game with community hosted dedicated servers and modding tools that can be maintained comparatively for free, provides ongoing advertising for the company and its products and can be sold for an upfront cost that can be altered at will to suit demand.
