As someone who has never owned a PC, isn't an avid gamer, but still has a casual interest in playing PC games, am I the target demographic for the steam machine?
if you're not a AAA fortnite slopper, yes
>>726039623Just build your own PC. You'll get way more fulfillment out of it and you'll be able to upgrade it as time goes on.
>>726039623The target market are people too lazy to do any research or to build their own machine. So yes.
>>726039623>but still has a casual interest in playing PC gamesdepends what you expect of pc games, end of the day most of the console games are on steamSome games won't work out of the box, because nowaday some PC games require to use anti-cheat software, which are not always compatible with linux (it already is an issue on steam deck)Maybe check if the steam deck would be better for you than the machine, especially if you don't play power hungry games
>>726039623Depends.If you're fine with playing singleplayer titles and not the latest AAA slop a year after launch? Yes.If you're wanting multiplayer titles that have invasive kernel anti-cheat (which would be like 80% of them)? No.
>>726039623just buy some recent refurbished office pc for ~$150 and shove the best used gpu your budget allows in it. entry-level pc gaming isn't expensive
>>726039938>>726039918I'm not someone who plays online multiplayer games often, most of my interests are usually older games, not next gen AAA games.
>>726040063Get a steamdeck instead then, main appeal of the frame is to have more power first, even for playing on the couch the deck could still work since you can use a dock and a controller.
I'm a patient gamer type who only really plays games years after release, and after they actually work (games are released broke now, it's a fact). So the steam box is right up my alley. I don't need a super strong machine. At the same time, given its specs, if it's anything significantly over $500, no thanks.
>>726040213I was originally considering the steam deck, however the announcement for the steam machine said it was six times more powerful than the deck, and while im not someone with a huge interest in the latest high end game I figured why not wait for the machine that will presumably have better capacity. I guess it all depends on how much it costs, if it is radically pricier than I'll likely just get the steam deck.
>>726040289This is where i'm at as well.
>>726039623>never owned a PC, isn't an avid gamer, but still has a casual interest in playing PC gameshello fellow /v/ gamers, did your shift on /b/ end?
>>726040510it's 6 times more powerful, but it's expected to be priced above current consoles according to latest news, so above 500 is a safe bet, I'm expecting 700But again, unless there are games that you want to play that would benefit from this power, there's no reason to get the machine. A portable console you can use it literally everywhere, so you'd be able to get more out of it (especially if you use it for emulation)
>>726039623most likely yes, unless you play exclusively AAA games. That thing might struggle with those in two years time if they even run on the native linux os at all.>>726039728>Fortnitepretty sure that thing will run Fortnite just fine if you double boot into windows
>never owned a PCimagine the creature
>>726039623Literally impossible to tell until they reveal pricing, any other answer is bullshitting
>>726040801Yeah but OP stated>As someone who has never owned a PChe will probably not duell boot
