The Switch 2 did just fine.

I always refer to this vid on why it failed.

people don't like to admit for some reason but I think the terrible name is why it bombed

Wii U
>Wii's forced waggle shit made gamers hate the wii and the reason why the wii sold as much is because soccer moms bought it for shit like Wii Fit and Just Dance. These same people weren't interested in the wii u and thought it was an overpriced controller
>Wii U had no games

Switch 2
>The switch made gamers love nintendo again. It even got more popular thanks to the pandemic boost
>Switch 2 is everything switch 1 owners wanted
>The Nintendo Switch 2 Has Games

The Wii U failed for several reasons.

>The name and advertising led some to believe the console was just a new controller.
>A lack of compelling games on launch. Unless you wanted ports of older X360/PS3 games, you were stuck with Nintendo Land and NSMB U for months.
>The Gamepad did little to enhance how people already play games, so games had to force a gimmick to justify the Gamepad's existence.
>Nintendo put out multiple titles that felt creatively bankrupt or just plain bad. The Switch has gotten a lot of criticism for mediocre titles, but could you imagine if shit like Mario Tennis Ultra Smash or Amiibo Festival released today?
>Lastly, the Wii U was just uncool. It came out at a time when people wanted sleek, powerful consoles that could play mature AAA games with beautiful graphics. The Wii U was incredibly lame in comparison. Say what you will about the Switch and the stereotypical onion men who buy it, but people generally like the Switch. It came out when the popularity of the mature AAA game was dying off, and it remains popular among kids and young adults.

>the Switch and the stereotypical onion men who buy it
that's only a stereotype on /v/ anyway, and the average anon is a 15 year old edgy retard. The reality is the switch has been a mainstream product since 2018.

Absolutely. I've seen several people downplay the Switch's success by claiming only Nintendo cultists buy it, or that Nintendo relies solely on nostalgia to sell games, but the truth is that the average gamer enjoys their products.

>that's only a stereotype on /v/ anyway
I don't know, I've seen basedjaks of Nintendo fans shared around "normalfag" spaces (i.e. Twitter, Youtube, etc.) for a while now. In fact, I have seen increasingly more imageboard lingo creep into the wider Internet. I had to do a double take the other day when I saw my Dad watch a video of some ordinary political commentator say "black fatigue." I remember people saying nigger-fatigue on /pol/ five years ago. I know that most of the Internet is downstream from this place; maybe that's why so many people seem to lose their minds online. The Internet as a whole is now just /v/.

By the time it got games it was too little, too late. That's why Switch's year 1 lineup was packed and Switch 2 at least got a sequel to the best selling Nintendo game since Wii Sports.

/v/ & 4chan crossposters.
Consider all of the twitter screencap threads we get daily. Very few people posting are only going to post on /v/, and the most frequent (and therefore loudest) posters are those that spend significant time throughout their day shitposting on the internet (not just on 4chan).
Who has that all that spare time? teenagers, neets, and the (mentally) unwell.
The overall quality of discourse here makes more sense when you keep this in mind.

>didn't launch with a new 3D Mario or Zelda
>the Mario game it launched with looked for all purposes identical to the one that was on Wii three years prior
>the most interesting game shown for the first six months was delayed an additional half-year just so it could go multiplat
>a good part of the Wii's audience never took the system online, while the Wii U launched needing a mandatory update to prevent a brick
