I don't understand the obsession with sales numbers or reviews. if you enjoyed the game isn't that enough?
*pic unrelated I just enjoy tungsten cubes

Because it indicates health of the industry and genre specifically. If you enjoy something that keeps failing over and over again you better be ready to play that same thing forever since no more will get made. This isn't rocket science.

I'd rather something I like die than ever be subjected to trying to appeal to wider audiences and ruining what I loved about it.

It's easy shitposting matieral, if a game is good and has loads of sales/players, rub it in everyone's faces, if it's bad and has next to no players, rub it in everyone's faces.
There is no in-between.
>>
>>726045513
You're in the minority with that opinion.
>>
>>726045160
it makes sense in context of multiplayer pvp games
>>
>>726045442
so it's important to obsess over sales numbers and reviews because the games made with mass appeal in mind that will always succeed over niche titles is somehow influenced by the autistic screeching of people posting on a mongolian basket weaving forum?
yes this is a run in sentence
no I do not care
>>
I still rather buy gold cube
>>
>>726045160
>birthday gift idea
>solid tungsten cube
I mean it has it's uses but I prefer you just give me the money at that point. In fact, I almost always prefer money. My tastes are too specific/autistic for people to attempt to satisfy.

Frankly, now that i think about it i'd find it pretty cool if i got a tungsten cube as a gift, i'm not even sure why. Especially if it was a giant cube like this>>726045514 I'd make sure to prepare some nice space for it and all (i'm just not sure how i'd transport it there considering that it'd be heavy as shit).

No, these figures should be observer within the context of their genres. This is the part most people don't care about and just want to shitpost.

fanboys were always a cancer, and this is what happens when you let it metastasize. also, the 3rd worlders and tablet kids try really hard to fit in here, but don't have the self awareness to make it funny or interesting

they don't know or believe anything, they've probably never felt genuine anger in their life. this is just a way to add flavor to doomscrolling for them, their brains are totally fried and they don't want to get better

so basic sales team shit that I already pointed out in my run on sentence? mass appeal designed to sell beating out niche titles. madden 2006 beat out godhand by a wide margin. we still get sports ball games but nothing like godhand. your faggy appeal to sales numbers means nothing, it's art for profit.

Some people just like to pick fights and chances are someone is going to be pissed off a game doing well/poorly. It's gonna keep happening until people can reign that in.

Liking a game is good, but other people liking it too is better.
If a game you like flops, you're not getting more of that game, or a future installment might just be one of those "greater audience" trash games that takes out all the shit you like to try to force getting more sales.
Same with reviews. If you like a game but all the reviews are shit, you're looking at a real chance of them fucking with the game's sequel to "fix" whatever pissed off the reviewers, which could be a good thing or a bad thing.

I mean, one-offs you love are fine too, but it's great if you love a game, have a lot of "this would be cooler if-" thoughts, and the game does so well that a sequel ends up filling out all those "what ifs".

I am incapable of enjoying a videogame if others aren't actively playing or discussing it. See: Visions of Mana. Decent game. Couldn't beat it because it was so dead and I hear the studio was cruelly dissolved right after it was released.

Most of the space for talking about games is dominated by shills that don't actually care about games, and stupid people that think sales numbers or reviews track with the quality of a game.
>>
>>726045160
people (retards) think popularity = good
sales numbers = popularity
>>
>>726057916
That's actually not true either.
You can dupe a bunch of people into buying shit they don't care about.
Sales while it might seemingly intuitively make sense they have a strictly firm relation with popularity actually don't.
Like, at all.
This is the same logistical error youtube uses to scam advertising and investment clients.

For me, it's because good sales indicate commercial success and the more successful a great game is, the likelier it is I'll see more of it being made.
I also hate when shit games perform well for that same reason
