It's too fast. The original City Trial was never this fast. The upgrades scale too quickly and it turns into a mess.

I played the first sessions and even today a little. I rented the original when it came out. I had cancelled my preorder. It’s just a bigger version of the same shallow game. The foundation of the game is shakey at best. Maybe I’d pick it up for $30. But the core gameplay just isn’t good enough for $70. And I can see a lot of polish anf content went into this game. But that’s not enough in my opinion.

I did end up buying it maybe 10 years later for cheap at GameStop. I think the air ride defenders are a small niche that it resonated with. I do see a lot of praise for the game on YouTube. So maybe the modern audience likes it better. Overall, I think it’s fair to say the game is getting mixed reception. It’s either meh or really good.
