replaying it now and everything up to guarma is fine. lemoyne is fun as hell, tons of atmosphere and spooky. half the game should have been doing the far cry 2esque missions for both plantations, playing both sides. the cracks show at the end of that chapter with jack magically getting kidnapped. They really, really wanted that set piece of the gang riding up to the plantation house. guarma is where the wheels fall off. shit just happens for no reason, no set up. Oh no a storm! oh no, everyone here is hostile because we need enemies. oh good, there's a rebellion, but it's like 3 emaciated haitians? just got back and sadie's been running the gang, and she found john, and she knows exactly how to free him. The protag switch should have been here. Arthur dies after getting back in the lakay ambush, reinforcing how pointless this whole mess has been and we swap to sadie to keep the gang going while dutch descends to madness. we'll see how the rest of it holds up
