I'm playing mgs3 right now and I sort of think it can be a negative. there is a lot of neat bullshit but it's all very shallow and fleeting, while the core game of what you're doing is kind of blaugh, crawl around and tranq any problematic guard at your leisure. maybe if there weren't so many neat little toys to jingle at the player they might have been forced to make the actual game more demanding.
