Hall of Justice, the penultimate map in the Disgaea 1 story. When I got here as a teen, I had such a shitty build and strategies I repeatedly lost and got very frustrated. I also didn't want to go back and grind, so I dropped the game.

Went back to replay as an adult and obliterated this fight, Etna mode, and most of the extra dungeons before getting bored.

I jumped up and down on this thing for several dozens of hours. I learned to make it bounce up and down, and short hop off of it, then quickly land and spindash under it.
I always thought that was the intended way until I learned like 10 years later that you can use up and down on dpad to move the barrel. :(

As a kid it took me forever to beat the Final Boss because I didn't know you were supposed to mash with both buttons (even though you have to use both buttons simultaneously all the time whilst playing as Mario and Luigi). The way button mash sections should work is purely for hype, and hide the fact that it's not actually expecting you to mash fast. That way you can mash as fast as you want based on your hype levels and you get the same impression. EG I don't think MGRs mashing segments required you to go that fast but they still had thicc dopamine hit

>If you mash all out the first round then you can't win.
Yes... you can. You just suck

Really just that hard and random difficulty spikes that keep building, it gets so much harder after that if you can believe it.

There are also just some things you don't jive with, I needed the Konami code to beat Contra and even then it would be close / I would lose sometimes but I also beat Ninja Gaiden 1 and 2, Captain Skyhawk, and never had a problem landing in Top Gun as a kid.

Arguably the hamster/water level was the bigger filter since I spend most of my failures there but I absolutely never got past this level if I ever reached it.

U.N. Squadron is probably on the easier side as far as shmups are concerned but I don't think I can get past this level without at least a save state before this level.

That shit was easy, try the absolutely unforgiving water tunnel in Earthworm Jim 1

This traumatized me so badly that I lost faith in video games, and only regained it once emulation became possible.

This is the third easiest level in the game. It has 12 levels.

My childhood retardation must have manifested differently because I never struggled with the test of strength.

THIS part in Dragon Rock however... yeah I could never get past it, and I only "beat" it as an adult by playing Amethyst Edition on an emulator and using the debug menu to slow down the game.

Ronnie in NFS:MW, never managed to beat it when I was a kid, then again I had a questionable taste for cars at the time, I always picked the same 3 cars (Cobalt SS, Eclipse, RX-8)

I raged so hard at this. Then I came back years later and had fun with it and the rest of the game.
