Post your childhood filters
This screen, for some reason. Retarded 8 year old me didn't realize there was a plank of wood you're meant to cross. I remember spending like an hour trying to figure out how to get across.
this was pretty early in the game, but it's tough when you're 4
>>726080156
>>726080536I got my older brother's Mega Drive when I was still too retarded to beat these games but I still played the shit out of them.
interested in seeing what the Zoomies and Alphas say, anyway heres mine
The Mario RPG puzzle in the sunken ship.Shit was hard back when there was no internet in my sudaca shithole hueheuheuha and you were just starting to learn English
>>726080494i had the exact same issue, i only managed to figure out you can go up there by blind luck just running along the edges of the area. i was stuck there for days.
>>726080156This but with the that one rouge stage with the same level aesthetic
I have never gotten further in Ray Man than this area.
First boss form is horseshit. Second form can softlock you.
>>726082645bongo hills is an insane filter, it has so many levels in there too and some of them are bullshit
>>726080156Pac-Man World 2: Volcanic Panic and Kingdom Hearts Chain of Memories: Monstro's Belly were walls I never got past as a kid. As far as KH is concerned I never actually learned how the card system works and my deck might as well have been random.
>>726080156I think it was just more that I couldn't figure out what the fuck I was doing.
>>726080156>Pic relatedHall of Justice, the penultimate map in the Disgaea 1 story. When I got here as a teen, I had such a shitty build and strategies I repeatedly lost and got very frustrated. I also didn't want to go back and grind, so I dropped the game.Went back to replay as an adult and obliterated this fight, Etna mode, and most of the extra dungeons before getting bored.
>>726080156The Barrel was my wall for a long time in Sonic 3 and Knuckles. I wasn't able to process that the arrows indicated to move up and down. I just thought it was a pattern with no significance.
this bullshit always made me quit
Aparoid queen in Star Fox Assault. I could not fucking beat that as a kid. I probably could if I went back now.
>>726080156You had to button mash in order to pull the sword from the stone, but I literally couldn't do it when I was young, so I had to ask my mom to do it
>>726083257This is the one where you need to reflect an specific attack , in a specific angle to damage it right?
FORGET IT, THERE'S NO WAY YOU'RE TAKING KAIRI'S HEART
>>726082645reminded me of this:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mygBXiddhGQ
I couldn't handle the spooky skeletons that come out at night. It was unironically too scary of a concept for my 5-year-old brain
>>726082568The prison island stage for me. Why the fuck does Shadow get 10 minutes for a 2 minute level, but Rouge gets 5?
>>726080156Central City's timed bomb defusal/detonation missions in Shadow the Hedgehog wereimpossible for me
zoomie here. this game blew my mind as a kid. I think I was around 11 or 12 when I played it, I remember getting so pissed off at this boss
>>726085886I fucking hated this so much that I eventually got a turbo controller for button mashing moments like thisI could understand pressing a mix of buttons in a certain timeframe but button mashing never felt right
>>726085886The monkey stealth level in Shadow Showdown had me stuck for a good while
>>726080156I played through Starfox Adventures twice and both times I could not get past this tug-of-war thing where you have to mash to push the guy into the pit
If you were also an illiterate little retard, you will recognize precisely why this filtered me.
>>726080494Not your fault, devs fault.
>>726080156Filtered me as a child. No cure + an invisible enemy + a fucking gun was hard to deal with as a 6 year old. That Riku fight fits as well.
>>726086787Damn I thought this was gonna be funnier
>>726088460afaik he killed her after and is now in prison
>>726086787>UltraJMan getting slappedclassic
>>726088546So did that kid who got a virus and his pants fell off
>>726088637indeed he did
The snes DK snow barrel shit AAAAIIIIEEEEEEE
>>726088102This is really devious. You have to mash slowly and purposely get faster the later rounds due to its adaptive difficulty. If you mash all out the first round then you can't win. I remember my mom helped me beat this one because she could mash faster than me.
>>726080156for me, it was Aquatic Mine and Mad Space
>>726080156I don't know about you guys, but the original Genesis Sonic games were fucking hard for me as a kid. >Sonic 1. Couldn't make it past Spring Yard Zone>Sonic 2. Mystic Cave Zone>Sonic 3. Marble Garden Zone>Sonic &K. Flying BatteryTbh, I struggled with the 3d games too, but generally made it further than 3 levels. I only started "beating" these games as an adult in recent years. "beat" I don't go for all emeralds and only go for goalpost/credits.
>>726089114Also, these games are stupid hard too.
I don't know how but I eventually got through this fight after like a week or two? Doesn't help that I played on a shitty Dell laptop using the keyboard and touchpad
>>726086973>THE CITY IS DOOMED
>>726085570I jumped up and down on this thing for several dozens of hours. I learned to make it bounce up and down, and short hop off of it, then quickly land and spindash under it. I always thought that was the intended way until I learned like 10 years later that you can use up and down on dpad to move the barrel. :(
As a kid it took me forever to beat the Final Boss because I didn't know you were supposed to mash with both buttons (even though you have to use both buttons simultaneously all the time whilst playing as Mario and Luigi). I kept getting filtered because it's physically impossible to inhale Fawful if you only mash the vacuum block with one button.
>>726081473Probably trying to go immediately to the graveyard in dark souls or something, games havent really had filters for a while
>>726089774wait, you weren't supposed to go the the graveyard as soon as you started?
>>726089114Even as a kid, I rarely struggled with Sonic games where you could keep a ring. This boss however. The rest of the game paled in comparison, except for finding the emeralds which was a whole new tier of bullshit.
>>726089846you can roll into the double-didlo crab and bounce off of it
>>726085886I had a friend like this that no matter the game he could never do button smash stuff
six year old me was too retarded to get past brock. ended up just quitting and playing silver later on. this is probably why they made gen 2 so easy.
>>726089984
I didn't had a memory card at the time I remember playing from morning until night to beat this Scooby doo game and the final boss kicked my ass for hours until I had to sleep, never beat it
>>726090040is that the cyberspace scooby doo game?
>>726090210Yep
>>726089984>Getting BROCKBLOCKED
>>726090354cool i might emulate it thanks
>>726090016i'm talking about yellow version by the way, not that that makes it much better. how was i supposed to know to catch a mankey off the regular path of the game?
I have never beaten this game
>>726089812Even if you make it to the end of tomb of the giants you’re blocked from going further until after you beat ornstein and smough
>>726090549i need to replay this game i don't really remember that much about it
>>726086787Feels like most shit like this has been buried by YouTube. Should have made a playlist while I had the chance.
>>726090719that's 100% intentional
I'm not quite sure why
>>726090858No shit Sherlock.
>>726091224ok holmes tell me the reason why it's intentional
>stuck at pic related in middle school>school friend says he can do it for me and give me back my DS the next day>reluctantly agree because i've known him for years>gives my back my DS the next day as he promised>my save file has maxed out items, stats, and level and is already at the final boss, obviously used gameshark>need to create a new save and do the game over again so i can actually play>"You're welcome anon"FUCK YOU DAMIEN YOU CUNT
>>726091294Because YouTube and the internet at large have become sanitized as fuck in service to making shit more "advertiser friendly".
>>726088102This part made me redtart the game, I was THAT desperate, then my dad helped me.Later at a friend's we marathoned this game and when we got here I tried to do it and, as if it were some shonen shit, I awakened a power, I started to hypervibrate my hand so fast I could to 10-12 mashes a second, nowadays using that power takes a toll on me, but I remained undefeated in similar Mario Party games.
>>726091359he did you an awesome favor though
The entire stage is such a gauntlet and you'd really have to go out of your way to raise a cyber elf for healing as a crutch>>726088382I played this game this year and this fight was still hard for me. Early kh1 with no defensive magic or sleights (whatever the specials are called) really is mash x and pray you kill them before they kill you
this or steelix, for some reason my typhlosion did fuck all damage to steel
The final Wild West level in the first Bubsy game. The one time I made it past the UFO boss, my friend's severely autistic brother was so excited that he skipped the password screen before we could copy it down. Of course, I immediately ran out of lives.
I got filtered on the last disc of Legend of Dragoon as a kid, I couldn't do the desert for the life of me idk why.
>>726091630awesome! he removed all the challenge and story from an RPG i wasn't even 10% the way through of!
I'm 100% certain that the last mission in the alien campaign is impossible to beat.
>>726080156That fucking wall section.Could do everything else up to the brain chase, but fucking level 2 was the moment I would give the GB to my dad.
Got stuck for a while because I was too retarded to stack two statues.
>>726093037god I hated this part so much
This whole no checkpoint bullshit, I couldn't even get to him. It was a miracle, how I even got to phalnax. I beat the games years later.
>>726093330>dread>childhood
>>726086945Lmao same I would book it across Hyrule Field and turn the game off if the moon rising animation played before I got there.
>>726086990I wish DS emulators performed better because I really wanna play this on my phone
>>726088382I got an even worse one, I would do the Xemnas gauntlet beat everything until laser dome. I couldn't beat laser dome for months because I was too retarded to press triangle
Heroes of Might and Magic II for the Game Boy Colori don't remember getting to the end game credits scence but I do remember the awesome music it had
We played this as a group in the after school center in grade two or three and it was really tough and took numerous tries since no one understood the concept of bullshit mirror levels yet.
The teleport maze in Tales of Symphonia. My friend ended up figuring it out for me but didn't save, and when I had to try doing it after that I couldn't and just never played the game again
filtered to the point where i dropped the game, came back to it years down the line and steamrolled him and the rest of the game shortly afterwards
>>726089240>the sky canyon boss with the glitched hand attack slap of despair and agony>sonic advance 3's boner for crushing hazards that can also instakill you if they feel like itstill kinda sad we never got an advance 4 but im assuming it'd be more or less like advance 3
Literally could not figure this game out. I beat FF1 at 10 years old but this was simply too arcane for 10 year old me.
>>726085570The problem was that jumping worked for the first barrel you encounter and that's it, your brain has decided that's how you deal with them.
>>726081573Many got stuck there. Took me a little bit as well. The Yoshi race was also famous in my neighborhood.>>726080265Quite possibly the GOAT besides the castle fight where you are on one side of a wall with a dude
>>726080156Any of the Lode Runners on nes is impossible for me, safe for a few levels.
I rented it and yes, this was my first sidescroller Megaman game with 64 being my very first. I was not familiar with those games at all.
Not joking. I was like 5 or 6 and had never played an RPG before in my life. Up until that point it was all Super Mario Bros World and shovel-ware like Dennis the Menace (which has its own part for this thread) and Beethoven and shit, all platformers. I rented this shit like 3 times too because it was Super Mario but I never got past this fight, always ended up getting frustrated and playing bing bing wahoo
i had to get my mom to beat this for me. no matter how hard i tried i could press fast enough... fucking bullshit
>>726080156The Italian Job ps1 mission 11, where you need to line up and follow a bus for cars to go in. The bus sways and controls were too unresponsive, resetting the counter all the time. Whole game was full of bs desu. It was my discount GTA3 for a summer, had some fun, music and voices were entertaining.
>>726080156I was stuck on this shit for SIX MONTHS
>>726101902is that eternal darkness or prince of persia?
Tomba games. Especially 1.
They really don’t make good games anymore >>726101902
>>726101902For me it was this shit.
>>726090040I had the exact same experience, this and Spyro.
>>726083581this game was so fun, especially as the mech jetpack guys. The base building and asymmetric multiplayer was awesome
I actually invited a kid from school to come over and help with this one. I had no sense of direction at all and spent hours running in circles. Played the game again at 33 and it wasn't difficult. I still can't navigate for shit in the real world without Google Maps. Before getting a smart phone with internet, I barely went anywhere new.
Fuck this level
This shit on 100cc or 150cc.
>>726103770Somehow this triggered a memory of another game that filtered me
When I played Pokemon Silver I had done the same thing I did in Blue and basically only used my starterBut I only had fire moves and I think Headbutt on Typhlosion so I got hard walled by Claire since I couldn't do any damage to Kingdra and didn't want to just grind up the rest of the team with how shit the level curve is in gen 2So I restarted and leveled like four different pokemon through the game instead and got through without any problems
>>726103770I loved this game so much. Probably got like 400 hours of it as a kid.Never made it past those fucking ostriches. I just didn't get it.I had the monkeys burned into my brain though.
The fucking construction yard in the toy story game
Couldn't beat the three little pigs in Mario Land 2. Babby brain couldn't time the jumps when they started rolling fast.
Somewhere midway through.
>>726085886I remember the KH2 final boss fight's button mashing segment. Nothing to write home about on my beginner mode run, then dumb kid me went straight to fuckin Proud. By the time I hit that final boss, it was like a marathon gauntlet of pain and I hit the buttons so fast for the mash part I accidentally cut one thumb with the other thumbnail, bleeding a little bit by the time the ending was playing. Christ fuck button mashing, I get some people find the "hold button" interactions in modern games boring but I'd rather take that than the return of these again.
>>726080494For me it was Guard Scorpion, sometimes I'd get past it by sheer luck until I came to the conclusion the game might be fucking with me and I shouldn't attack while the tail is up.
>>726086945This but silent hill origins when pyramid head showed upIn hindsight I don't know how I powered through the rest of the game
>>726104890
>>726093941this was the master system one right? I remember getting filtered by this too, I can't remember at what point though
>>726104841>brother could never do this for years even into adulthood>play it on the ps2 x collection and figure out the weakness>first try it>he feels utterly disappointed in how easy it actually is when i let him knowat least he didn't play maverick hunter x. the final sigma there was so nerfed it's absolutely absurd
the worst one i can remember
>>726080156There's a point in pokemon gen 4 where they expect you to backtrack several towns and routes to go give some psyducks their meds. I didn't know what the fuck I was missing for like a week.Speaking of getting lost, I played through a lot(?) of pokemon rangers shadows of almia, and there was a point when I genuinely didn't know what to do. I think I was in the volcano arena, or at least I remember looking around there a lot trying different field abilities. I just never finished the game
>>726080494>Retarded 8 year old me didn't realize there was a plank of wood you're meant to cross.Nah, don't worry, you weren't retarded. I remember thinking when I was 15>OH, so that's what it's supposed to be!And in the days before the internet was filled with guides, it wasn't easy.
>>726085886>>726104743>>726089920>>726087339The way button mash sections should work is purely for hype, and hide the fact that it's not actually expecting you to mash fast. That way you can mash as fast as you want based on your hype levels and you get the same impression. EG I don't think MGRs mashing segments required you to go that fast but they still had thicc dopamine hit
Pic related. Felt like a retard when I finally passed it to my Dad and he solved it in a second.
>>726080265I had to restart the whole game cause of that fight. Actually used tactics rather than raw power throughout the game, then at the 3rd layer of a dungeon you have your first encounter where raw damage was the only want out.
Battletoads speeder bikes. I got past it a total of 1 time.Nice seeing everyone else post so many other things that gave me an issue as a kid too
>>726106991Is Battletoads actually that hard to beat or is it just random difficulty spikes?
Fucking cunt
>>726080310>molests you
>>726088102My friend was having trouble with this so I took the controller and literally beat it in one try LOOOOL
>>726089031>If you mash all out the first round then you can't win.Yes... you can. You just suck
>>726108579Really just that hard and random difficulty spikes that keep building, it gets so much harder after that if you can believe it.There are also just some things you don't jive with, I needed the Konami code to beat Contra and even then it would be close / I would lose sometimes but I also beat Ninja Gaiden 1 and 2, Captain Skyhawk, and never had a problem landing in Top Gun as a kid.
Arguably the hamster/water level was the bigger filter since I spend most of my failures there but I absolutely never got past this level if I ever reached it.
U.N. Squadron is probably on the easier side as far as shmups are concerned but I don't think I can get past this level without at least a save state before this level.
>>726081473That shit was easy, try the absolutely unforgiving water tunnel in Earthworm Jim 1
>>726111036https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nAOD2z757yk
>>726085570This traumatized me so badly that I lost faith in video games, and only regained it once emulation became possible.>>726080987DO YOU REALLY LOVE MEAM I REALLY SPECIAL
>>726106991This is the third easiest level in the game. It has 12 levels.
>>726088102My childhood retardation must have manifested differently because I never struggled with the test of strength.THIS part in Dragon Rock however... yeah I could never get past it, and I only "beat" it as an adult by playing Amethyst Edition on an emulator and using the debug menu to slow down the game.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5kQ1qtgIy5I&list=RD5kQ1qtgIy5I&start_radio=1god tier music tho
>>726080156Ronnie in NFS:MW, never managed to beat it when I was a kid, then again I had a questionable taste for cars at the time, I always picked the same 3 cars (Cobalt SS, Eclipse, RX-8)
>>726085664I feel you...
>>726091076me toothe acid library scared the shit out of me for some reason.
>>726080156Star Wars: Jedi Power Battles the Coruscant level with all that jumping crap.
>>726085570I always just timed my jumps, i never realized youre supposed to hold up or down until coming here
My 5 year old brain couldn't comprehend ice path
I raged so hard at this. Then I came back years later and had fun with it and the rest of the game.
