>insists that 6th gen was the biggest leap in console gaming...>because of framerate and resolution>Says 7th gen was a step back because of bad framrates and screen tearing. Technically right but still doesn't address the question>several retards in the comments say 6th gen was somehow a bigger leap over PSX/N64 because of framerate >some even say Ps4 was a big leap>I contemplate purchasing the biggest lifted pickup I can findMy PC runs Super Mario 64 at 1440p and 120fps. I see all the plebs running Monster Hunter Wilds at 1080p 20fps. I must have the most powerful PC in the world!
lmfao why do you watch this crap
Did you? Fuck off, retard.
>>726085628>I must have the most powerful PC in the world!that's pretty good N64 is notorious for shitty emulation isn't it?
>>726085628>insists that 6th gen was the biggest leap in console gaming...>Says 7th gen was a step back because of bad framrates and screen tearing.Where are they wrong?
>>726085628They were correct. Instead of increasing fidelity while making sacrifices in performance we got better fidelity and a huge performance boost.
>>726085628they're talking about console generations, not PCs
>>726085628God, who gives a shit?
>poasting digital faggots
>>726085628go play one of the tony hawk games on ps2 then project 8 on 360 afterwards and see how shit the performance became and how ugly the graphics were
>>726085730Because youtube wants to torture me
>>726086007>>726086050>>726086393Ocarina of time has shit image quality and runs at 15fps.A LttP runs at 30fps.But there's a clear and obvious reason for the worse performance of OoT. Performance isn't everything in this topic.
>>726086132They are talking about what makes a hardware jump the biggest. This can apply to both.
>>726085628>insists that 6th gen was the biggest leap in console gaming...Well, yeah, it's either the 5th or the 6th, all the others were way smaller leaps but I could understand people arguing that it's actually the 3rd gen which was the biggest leap since it was when things started to look like things instead of being abstract renditions of a thing..
>>726085628These tards had what? 2 or 3 exclusive events/reveals/first looks with Nvidia hardware while pretending they are an unbiased news outlet. Why would you watch such people?
It's 8th gen because that was when we achieved photorealism
>Referring to console generations as if anyone memorizes that shitDumb bitch. Just say the fucking name of the consoles for the generation. Shit's just marketing anyway.
>>7260856286th Gen was genuinely a bigger leap over PSX/N64. The 6th Gen is where we see the design choices that have persisted over the past 20 years, and with a jump in tech to enable it. 5th Gen was still far too rudimentary to achieve a lot of things.
>>726088614It's not that fucking hard to remember. 3rd gen is NES. 5th is PS1. 7th is 360. 10th just started now with Switch 2.
>>726085628>6th gen was the biggest leapAnd that is correct. Not only was 6th gen the biggest leap because of resolution and frame-rate but it was the first gen that could actually produce proper 3D too. Jak and Daxter in 2001 I think was the first game to have Seamless World Streaming, Level of Detail, Dynamic Lighting, Animation Blending... Fucking bump mapping too. 3D games of the past did not have fucking bump mapping before Jak and Daxter, just a bunch of flat polygons. Fucking bump mapping... Crazy how archaic 3D was before the PS2.On a side note: Current gen (PS5/Series X) is the first time we got games with good framerate since the PS2. Every game up to the Snes gen were 60fps, then we lost it with the PS1 gen, PS2 gen had an increase of 60fps games, then PS3 gen went backwards again, same with PS4, and with current gen we finally got good framerate back again on consoles.
>>726091869>Level of Detailfucking mario 64 had that
>>726085628Personally I feel like Fourth generation was the biggest leap. NES came out in 1983 and SNES in 1990Thats a 7 year leap in the one of the biggest in technological progress. You went from Dragon Quest to Chrono Cross. This generation cemented just about everything important in Japanese culture today. All the foundation blocks for all the Isekai, spells, skills, character archetypes, deisgns and everything else was made in this generation. I know a lot of people feel Sixth one was the big leap but I feel like by that time PCs already had surpased consoles by leaps and bounds. The PS2 launched in JP on 4 March 2000. By March 2000 PC already had Half-LifeQuake 2System Shock 2Unreal TournamentPlanescape:TormentEverquestAlpha CentauriHomeworldAge of Empires 2 HoMM 3Fallout 2Baldurs GateBlood 2Starcraft NFS 4 Like all the things the Six Generation was famous for was already basically normal on PC. Meanwhile there was nothing like the Fourth generation Consoles anywhere on the planet. They gave birth to entire new game play types that were never seen before.
>>726092660Yeah, the 3rd to 5th generation of gaming was insane, they shaped the industry of today harder than the 1st and 2nd generations did. 6th gen was just everything maturing, it's all been on decline since the 7th generation.10th generation will be the collapse and rebirth of gaming.
>>726087229>A LttP runs at 30fpslol no
A pedophile, a boomer, and a Gaijin walk into a bar, that bar is called digital foundry.
>>726088103If you were the top X hardware outlet and Nvidia invited you to get first scoop on the next gen videocard, would you say no? Not even implying a fan boy, it's literally exclusive content coverage for you.
>>726093557I can't tell whos is who.
>Alex the cocksucker
>>726087229I think there is a lot to be said about how 6th gen was just a straight upgrade over 5th. Literally everything 6th gen did, it did better than the 5th gen.Not true with 4th to 5th, a lot of big name franchises of the day flubbed their transition into 3D and there were a ton of growing pains as people figured out how to make 3D games work. As a result 5th gen is plagued with shit controls, shit mechanics, shit performance, shit cameras, and a visual style that often looked worse than the 2D counterparts. Take fighting games for example, 2D fighters looked and played better than their 3D counterparts for pretty much that entire generation to the point that "3D fighter" got a bad reputation.Your graphics got better in 6th gen, your controls got better in 6th gen, your performance got better, developers had a much better idea about what worked and what didn't, and as a result games, almost universally, got better. Its hard to find a single area where 5th gen was was superior, RPGs got better in 6th, fighters, racing, you name it, 6th gen did it better. So 6th gen was not only a huge leap but it was a graceful one and that's not something you can say about any subsequent generation.I think the only other generation to consider here is 3rd to 4th, that was a similarly graceful leap but I'd argue it wasn't quite as far as the leap from 5th to 6th. Everything got better, but you went from games with 8 colors on screen at a time to 32, I mean yeah Super Mario World looks better than Mario 3 but its not as huge as the difference between Smash bros and Melee.
>>726088614>your personal problem is somehow our concernTypical zoomie. Your on the internet faggot. 5 seconds to look it up before posting. What's next you going to turn into a gay nazi cause you saw two women kissing?
how is it not 5th gen with the 2D to 3D jumpthis is a retarded question with one very obvious answer, posed to frauds who have no technical expertise whatsoever and who determine the resolutions of games by opening screenshots in paint
