that's actually hilarious

I'm actually more surprised that there are enough "big" gamble streamers that you can make clip compilations of them
>>
>>726100294
They fully knew ridding their cash cow would kill them right? Why the fuck did they do anything to actually risk him leaving, and actually go through with it? Did they think anyone actually gave a shit about their "brand identity" or whatever the fuck corpo fucks think
>>
>>726100294
A 35 year old magazine/site all collapsed because they were retarded enough to piss off their 1 cash cow

The corpo wanted escapist to increase the video output to unsustainable levels
The chief editor wasn't being cooperative enough about this, so he was being let go
Yahtzee and others left in protest, and started their own thing with blackjack and hookers (except it's patreon and no hookers)
Then it was apparently found out that this timeline of events isn't entirely truthful, but the guy who pointed it out (Frost) is a massive twat so I don't care if his feelings were hurt
>>
Not gonna pretend otherwise, I first started coming to 4chan because it seemed like Escapist was on the way out. Still sad to see it in such a deathly state, just pull the plug already.

These retards will keep clicking on The Button That Makes You Lose Money while screaming "STOP!!!" until they go bankrupt because there's a small chance that they will win money eventually this time for sure
Gamblers are pathetic
I mean I understand the rush of gambling but you can literally get it from videogames without wasting a cent. Or you can set hard limits that you will only gamble with like 50 dollars max once or twice per month, and only for fun
Gambling addiction is a serious mental illness
>>
>>726102443
If you understand the rush of gambling you should understand that gambling 50 dollars is fucking nothing
"I understand the rush of basejumping but why don't you stick to jumping 3 feet onto a mattress"

what the fuck, I've bought stocks and got lucky gaining 3000$ in a short time, it's really nothing to get excited like a howling monkey over.
>>
>>726102443
I personally gamble only like once every one or two months, and only because eurojackpot's grand prize pot keeps increasing every time someone doesn't win it. After a certain point even just getting a few digits right more than covers the ticket purchase (like couple euros for a ticket, then you win like 10 to 20 euros).
I don't expect to ever win the grand pot, but you know, I am losing money very slowly when I stick to this plan, so I don't really care.

The problem isn't even casinos nowadays, or physical locations
Its the online scene, the quick and easy way to gamble away your savings, the convenient way to bet on anything from playing virtual slots to sports to whatever the fuck devils at polmarket are letting you bet on
Regular casinos and such are a problem, yes, but they are also heavily regulated, monitored and if they are gone then people will either gamble in private or go to scummy basement joints openly run by organized crime, meanwhile online scene has very little regulation and is ripe with loopholes, which is why it oftentimes outrigh targets kids, CS2 crate gambling is one of those examples, but by far not the only one, and if they are gone, then that's it, you can't really make a scummy basement online casino, well you kinda can but your average person doesn't know how to access dark web

Videogames in general are dying, the industry has had fallen revenue year on year since 2022 and it's projected to keep falling.

Millennials and Gen X are slowly dropping out of Gaming, they were the biggest gamers. Gen Z never were fully into games and were more about youtube and streaming, they are growing out of games rapidly as streaming and youtube is pivoting away from games. Gen Alpha only watches short form content and even roblox and minecraft are seeing a drop in players as younger Gen Alpha never get into games, ever.

The industry is collapsing similarly to cable tv.

The funny thing is that the ONLY hobby related institution that is still alive and kicking is literature. Reading is still good and the quality of books hasn't fallen at all. Highly recommended for fellow millennials as the game industry slowly disappears.

But I get it, though. It's a hard addiction to escape, especially with sports betting everywhere these days. Sports betting is a gateway drug, and the next thing you know, you're gambling the last of your savings away. I mean, that is not even a "conspiracy". Camp Harlam (Reform Judaic children's summer camp) for example used to openly state that they try to encourage Jewish kids of opposite sexes to mingle with each other to encourage Jews pairing up with other Jews instead of gentiles.

In the early days he was refreshing because he was willing to say hugely controversial things like "Maybe this new Zelda game is less than a 10/10," and also because he brought an eloquence to gaming discussion that was unusual on YouTube and seemingly gave weight to his opinions. The anger that Yahtzee would stir up among fanboys with his heretical statements in this period meant that the launch of a new ZP episode was sometimes a major internet event, with the offending review being widely linked on gaming boards to elicit emotional and defensive reactions.

As you'd expect, people got used to Yahtzee's shtick after a while, and eventually even the most short-fused fanboys learned to ignore him. If a critic is witheringly negative in 99% of their writings, the negativity starts to seem meaningless. The era of Yahtzee as a controversial firebrand had come to its inevitable end, so he shifted gears, blunted his edge, and became more of a light humourist instead. He's good at it, but old fans will miss the mischief-making of the past.
>>
>>726102649
Same. I get the smallest ticket (4 rows) whenever it hits 70+ million, because if I'm going to win big it better be so big I can burn 20 million on the nearest friends and family without batting an eye.
I chose the 70 threshold because the vast majority of wins happens in 1st or 2nd draw, or after it hits 70. And 4 rows because it makes no difference if I play 4 or 40 rows. The odds of winning are so infinitisimally small, I could spend the entire maximum prize pool twice over on rows and still not be guaranteed a win.
>>
>>726106614
>I can burn 20 million on the nearest friends and family without batting an eye
That's very nice of you but that mindset is also the reason why a lot of lottery winners go broke. They quite their jobs and then start spending like they have a permanent millionaire-tier income
The perfect analogy I once read was that it's like giving a homeless guy $10k. He's gonna go out and spend most of it on a shitty car or something
>>
>>726106506
In general the "rage-baiting" of the early internet has died off by now. Even 4chan doesn't really use that technique anymore when creating threads as it doesn't work anymore. Notice how blacked spamming has dropped off as the engagement just isn't there anymore.

The 500 layers of irony and "not taking anything seriously ever" shtick of the internet is also slowly dying as people take sincerity seriously again. Yahtzee went into this post-ironic humorist mode which is now again out of fashion.

You already notice this trend with people saying the sonic the hedgehog deviant art "OC do not steel" edgy stuff is actually "based" and the classic "cringe" videos like the kids on the parking lot re-enacting Kingdom Hearts fights are now viewed positively in retrospect because internet culture is slowly turning against "cringe" and looking for sincerity again.

We will probably move away from video game critics and "hot takes" and instead look more towards "positive, sincere voices".

Yeah, it depends on the person, their upbringing and lifestyle how they handle a sudden influx of money. Personally? I wasn't born into a rich family, but I wasn't all that poor either. Just one step down from middleclass, I guess. But, I then started my own business, had to work real hard for a good while, almost went bankcrupt, but then made it through and have plenty of money. But that near-bankcrupcty experience (which lasted for the majority of a year, where I was penny pinching on everything, even starving myself), I learned not to take money for granted, so now that I have a decent abudance of it? I'm still spending it frugally, and trying to invest it in ways that would help me more.
I don't mind borrowing some money to friends every now and then, but even in those situations I try to keep it so that it doesn't put me above the monthly spending I've set for myself on personal expenses.
>>
>>726106726
What gave you the impression that it wouldn't be a one-off thing so the people I give a shit about can clear debts/buy something nice/whatever, and the rest of the winnings wouldn't be locked down so I could live off the interests doing whatever I want?

Best rags to riches to rags story I've heard was a bong that won big, quit his garbage man job and got rehired a few years later after burning everything on hookers and blow.

I don't remember if it's his throat or lungs but he simply can't sustain his old pace. He also just mellowed a lot, which kinds of defeats the point since he was never a gamer god and the point was his exaggerations.
His secondary problem is injecting current day politics instead of taking the piss, because absurd hyperbole is funny, but pointing at current headlines for a metaphor ages faster than milk AND comes off as far more insecure.
Half rambunctious or however his essay series is called avoid these pitfalls because it doesn't try to be fast (which he can't anymore) and stays on topic, and they're less off-the-cuff factory chained so he actually has some points to bring up, even if it's not groundbreaking.

Every single person re-posting this comic fails to notice that in this hypothetical scenario, they enter the picture on panel 3 at the earliest. You did not invent this hobby nor did you build it up. You were born into a world where that hobby already existed.

If there is such a thing, then it's to say whatever the fuck is on your mind without paying any heed to consequences.
I think, such an environment is generally the best. That only works anonymously or pseudonymously, so you won't find it on SNS with strict connections to real-life.
4chan is pretty much perfect as far as that is concerned.

PC gaming as a niche survived the console apocalypse that was the jump from the PS2 era to the 360 era. It will, at most, become a proper niche hobby again.

Pic related. Which is now hosted on the artists own website, but there's no context so you have to know what news the strips are referencing to get many of them. They also had extra credits and movieblob.

nanny statism is cringe but i would absolutely vote for a complete and total ban on all betting in my country. i dont care how many jobs it would annihilate in the process, its pure cancer with no benefits whatsoever and should be treated as such.
