Games used to be judged mostly out of 100. they switched to the 10/10 system because "its easier to give games a perfect 10 score even when they have flaws, than it is to justify giving a full 1000 when there are areas that could be improved".

This practice was starting around the same time the gamecube was coming out and almost every single gamecube game was given a 10/10 score by nintendo affiliated game critics. go figure.

For those who are unable to wrap their head around the concept that 10/10 doesn't mean perfection, let me try to help you.

1) When you write an exam, you can score full points without delivering a perfect piece of work. You don't need to write in perfect calligraphy, don't need to include a working theory of everything in the notes, and not need to suck the cock of the person who is grading it 5 times a day for the rest of his life.

Everything is judged based on the scope of the thing and reasonable expectations, not some unattainable platonic standard.

2) Even if we would assume that a 10/10 is not possible, unless the game is 100% perfect in every way, then 9/10 would be the new highest score und thus the equivalent of a current 10/10.
